I’ve stayed close to a month here, very gorgeous and home like feel, all the staff and the owner Carole are very kind and accommodating. staying here you have the perks of being right in the heart of the city of St. John’s with parks, coffee shops, grocery stores and restaurants all in walking distance. if you would like to support a small Newfoundland business who will accommodate you to the greatest ability I strongly recommend this beautiful place!

The temperature in the inn was set at 20 degrees celsius and it sometimes read even lower on the thermostat. They provided you with a space heater in your room. The down duvet was warm, but there was blood stain on the duvet cover. The worst part of my stay was when a radiator in my room leaked water. I informed the inn owner of the problem before noon. She kept telling me the problem would be fixed soon and I was not informed to move to another room until after 9 pm. It was a hectic day and I was trying to help them suck water out of the carpet. I was too tired to move that day. The live-in caretaker in the inn was not very helpful with your luggage. After I moved to a room on a lower floor, the inn started to renovate a room underneath me. And they forbad you from opening the window in your hallway to have some air flow.

I was very welcomed on going to the Roses and got kind and veryconsiderate care. I tried to cross the street to the church side and was hit by a car coming out of the church parking lot . Two very concerned young women got out and helped me get back to the Roses as my taxi was coming shortly to take me to the airport. Roses staff was very helpful in getting ice to put on my leg. But! Cross at the crosswalk and not at the Roses. Cars drive very fast here. None was coming but the church driveway is right across from the Roses front door. The young woman must not have been looking as she turned onto Military Road. I was almost across but not quite. I would stay here again and recommend the place.

To start, you are emailed codes to get in the front door and into your room. There is no one to greet you. You are asked to take your shoes off at the door. If you have a problem you are suppose to text the owner or housekeeping. Upon arrival, we found that the bed was so high (up to my waist), that there was no way that I would be able to climb into it at night. I tried texting the owner for a stool. Got no reply, so we phoned them and were told we would get a stool the next day. Meanwhile, there was an old fashioned couch at the end of the bed that I had to climb on to get into the bed. We were there 2 nights and a stool never showed up. The bed was very comfortable though. I texted housekeeping after the first night for another box of kleenex. They changed our towels, which we didn't ask for, but we never got another box of kleenex. We came through again and stayed 2 more nights. We checked ourselves in just as housekeeping was finishing our room, so I was able to ask for a stool again in person and got one this time. I also noticed there wasn't a box of kleenex in the room. If you book a room here, make sure to request a stool if you are less than 5 1/2 feet tall. The best part of staying here was the breakfast and chef Norm. He gave us wonderful breakfasts and was such a character to chat with. We really looked forward to our breakfasts. I would have given 4 stars just for him.

We were not thrilled with our experience here. It is a grand old building, but hasn't been properly maintained. Everything feels old and there is a musty smell. Soon after we arrived we realized we had no toilet paper, towels or soap, and had to request them. We then noticed that our floor was extremely dusty (like, footprints in the dust) and the carpets had not been vacuumed. We called the manager and someone came in to clean, but afterward we still found a lot of dirt and dust throughout the room, including an ancient granola bar wedged bedside the dresser and a used cough drop stuck to the floor. Yuck. The chandelier above the bed also appeared to be falling out of the ceiling. I don't mean to be particular, but when you pay $250 for a room you expect a certain level of cleanliness at the least. The room was very large, which was nice, but I would have preferred a smaller room with nicer amenities. Good breakfast and location are why I am giving 3 stars and not 2.

The Roses Heritage Inn is a lovely place to stay while visiting St. John's. The combination of period and modern pieces adds to its charm. Situated within walking/hiking distance to many historic landmarks and downtown is a bonus. The complimentary hot breakfast, prepared by Chef Norman, is delicious! Our room was on the street front, by a bus stop and busy intersection, which made for a lot of vehicle noise.

We stayed in a lovely heritage building on Jellybean row, operated by Roses Heritage Inns. Our room was Heart's Content, a pretty room with a large bathroom. It had everything we needed. We were served a lovely breakfast every morning in dining room. We also utilized the living room and outdoor space for visiting. We try enjoyed our stay, so much that we stayed there again before our return home.
