This hotel is way past its prime and in dire need of refurbishment. This historic element is nice but the hotel feels dirty and like its heyday was in the 1950s. The indoor pool had a terrible, strong chlorine odor so we did not attempt to use it. When I attempted to take a bath, there was someone's hair floating in the water so I skipped that as well. There was peeling, chipped paint everywhere, several bugs, dated soft furnishings and a broken ottoman in our room. There were cobwebs everywhere and tape on the wall above the headboard. A few of the staff are friendly, but most are unfriendly and very much the opposite of welcoming. The worst part was our last night when we asked if they had a bottle opener for the bottle of wine we got for my birthday - the front desk told us to ask in the bar. Upon entering the dingy space, we were ignored. My husband asked "excuse me, would you be able to help us open this?" The barmaid refused, stating she cannot open it for us. The guy behind the bar who had been friendly at reception the day before offered his personal wine key. When we went to open the bottle the same rude barmaid yelled "you can't open that in here! I'll have to charge you!" making for the final extremely distasteful moment of our stay. We would never return to The Summit Inn, even though we plan to return to the area for Fallingwater again in the future. Her attitude was so unwarranted I'll make sure to share how it tainted our stay. Thanks for the unpleasant end to what had been a beautiful birthday, belligerent barmaid. Other notes: you'll hear every single vehicle that passes the hotel if you don't have the heat or aircon on blast. You'll hear every truck and jack break regardless. They will not clean your room unless you ask and the lobby was not swept the entire 4 days/3 nights we were there.

Lovely atmosphere and beautiful stone fireplaces. We wanted the view, so we chose the upgrade to the third floor. That was perfect since there is a back entrance and didn't have to take suitcases all the way up three flights of steps, just one. The bed, however, was not comfortable for me and the airconditioner/heat kept cutting on and off with a droning sound and the air from the unit blew right across our bed. I also prefer nice linens and not just a bedspread for the bed.

I want to be very careful how I review this experience because there are many positives and at least one big negative. I love historic places like this and want them to prosper. They are obviously struggling and I urge you to support them. The place is beautiful. There are extensive hiking locations both on the grounds and in the area. We were there in the fall and the area is beautiful. No TV and spotty internet. This is a great place to get away. There are both great indoor and outdoor pools. I especially enjoyed the outdoor pool and hot tub. They were not crowded. This is a very old resort. I love these historic places. It has been added onto and remodeled many times. There isn't an elevator. We parked in back and I ended up lugging heavy suitcases both up and down stairs to get through the maze to get to our room and then out again when checking out. Fortunately I could do it, but you should know the place isn't handicapped accessible. There are 3 different dining locations, one for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner. The dinner was very tasty but the portions are small. For breakfast you need to line up for your food like ordering at McDonalds. The food was excellent, but a little expensive for not being full service. I didn't have lunch but the menu sounded good. I was very disappointed in the room. Nothing like the ones in the pictures. It was located above the hall being used by a wedding party so one night it was pretty noisy. It was also apparently above the kitchen because we got a lot of cooking odors. The view was of the exhaust fans from the kitchen and not much else. The bathroom was tiny and not being very flexible I almost had to get in the bath tub to shut the door. Mornings as I walked down the halls I could see other rooms that were really nice and I felt more than a little ripped off. My room would have been better for a single young backpacker. When I asked at the desk about the rooms the very pleasant lady explained the policy. Every room is different. They are categorized into rooms with one bed or two. I understood this distinction determined the price of the room. Some rooms are better than others. If you book directly from them, they fill the rooms from the better rooms. If you book through another company who take a cut, the inn fills the rooms from the bottom. If we wanted a better room, we should have booked direct. My advice is to go to this great resort, but be sure you book directly with them and never a third party.

50th class Reunion. Banquet room lower level with no elevator for elderly classmates, many had limited mobility. Parking was horrendous, 1 handicapped space, but TWO spaces for electric cars! We had to park in upper lot in the back. We are both disabled. If you are required to choose between 2 entre's on the rsvp., why was it buffet served with both entre's available for people to take both! We were the last table allowed to go up for food and there were 5 tiny pieces of dried chicken for 7 people and NO beef left at all! We filled up on mashed potatoes! There was supposed to be fruit salad. There was none. There was supposed to be lemonade and ice tea, none! Choices were water or crappy coffee full of grounds! The ladies room stalls are so small. I sat down on the toilet and banged my head on the door so hard I thought I'd sustained a brain trauma. The music was way too loud. You got a room full of elderly people wearing hearing aids for God's sake. Hearing aids amplify noises. Nobody could hear anything! Finally, climbing up all the stairs and walking all the way back to our car left us winded. I thought all hotels and restaurants had to be ADA compliant? We spent good money for our meals and had nothing but mashed potatoes and no gravy. Very disappointed. We will not be back.

Maybe we've grown accustomed to and have an expectation that makes a stay more comfortable. Unfortunately, the Inn falls far short and you should be aware of the following: 1) there is no elevator 2) no trolley to help transport luggage, but if you ask, the staff will help 3) the Wi-Fi is unreliable (you need to ask for the password as that information is not provided) 4) no coffee maker in the room (you go downstairs where it is provided at the reception desk) 5) one of our keys was unreliable (a problem they recognize) 6) the separate sink outside the bath and toilet provides no place to hang the hand towel. Note: I booked through a 3rd party (never again) and got a postage stamp sized room. Upgrading cost us $70/night. Of course, the staff is gracious and takes all this in stride, and I'm glad we got to stay on the National Road (unfortunately noisy and colors the view, which the Inn cannot help), but will not return or recommend.

Charming hotel, quaint getaway that is convenient to Kentuck Knob and Fallingwater - however, beware, the breakfast staff are trained to not allow any substitutions. Even though my wife and I do not eat pork and my wife is gluten free, the breakfast staff are told to not allow any substitutions of the sausage/bacon that comes with nearly all meals (or toast with the omelets) for another breakfast side such as scrambled eggs/hash browns/fruit etc. We asked the front desk and they were not aware of the policy, so instead they talked to their manager who wrote a letter to us that was slipped under our room door that said this was their policy. The exact opposite experience occurred at dinner, where the staff was very accommodating and asked what side we wanted with our entrees, etc. Not sure why they feel the need to nickel and dime their guests at breakfast, I've never seen that at any other breakfast place, especially when the side dishes are all the same price. Aside from that, cute hotel with friendly staff, good inclusions e.g. treehouse tour, s'mores, etc. - do beware that the bathroom tub is very slippery and they don't seem to have any shower non-slip mats available.

Booked for two nights. The Inn has no elevator but no one offered assistance with our luggage - thank goodness only carryons. After touring Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob we returned to a room which had not been made up. Asked at the desk and was told "that's at request only." But no one mentioned that at check-in. We paid considerably more than other hotels in the area. We would never stay again.

We were staying in the area for a white water rafting trip and wanted to have a quality dinner out. The dining experience was outside on a terrace that overlooks the the valley side from the mountain top. As the sun was setting, we had an amazing view. The dinner menu had a wide variety of offerings. I had the French Onion Soup and lamb while my wife had the King of the Sea. We finished the night watching the sun set while enjoying our drinks. A fantastic location for a romantic dinner!

Overnight with my son. We don’t live far and this place always kind of reminded us of The Shinjng so we wanted to check it out. The staff were all incredible, welcoming, and helpful. Dinner … amazing… reservations for dinner are a must. We were seated right at the edge of the veranda so we had the perfect view for sunset which was beautiful. The hotel itself, beautiful. I feel our room could’ve been a little nicer. Nothing wrong with it at all, but for the price .. eh. Clean and comfortable though. To be fair, I booked through a third party site so may have gotten a lower grade room. I suppose I just expected it to match the rest of the hotel a little more instead of a pretty basic room if that makes sense. I’m not sure I’d really care to stay again - that being said I repeat… staff great, dinner … amazing … the hotel inside and out… beautiful. And we agree that we have to go back just for lunch/dinner
