The hotel room is very small, unlike domestic hotels, and the price/performance ratio is very poor. The two white female front desk staff are racist. The room seems to be monitored. As long as a third person appears in the room during the day, we will soon be called to ask us to ask the third person to exit. Room!

It's just a better B&B, but to be honest I can't appreciate it. There is one room in one building, and the restaurant is downstairs.

It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

Went twice in the spring 2024. Stayed in the most expensive room. Not worth it. Nobody in reception ever answers the phone and one is marooned. The food and service in Spice is good and tasty but Source in our opinion is awful. Terrible experience in a cold unwelcoming room with tinned music. The evening we went the stag had no welcome and did not know what the food was which was a large course tasting menu. Surly reception but breakfast service was fab. Never again

Not been for a while, so new menu, flavours wonderful. Would love to return regularly, so hope the small menu choices alter regularly.

We stayed here for three nights over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We were repeat visitors having previously visited many moons ago in 2007. Bearing this in mind we found a bottle of fizz and some body lotion in our room (Grasmere) welcoming us back. The room was lovely if a little dark with a lovely bathroom and hot tub outside. Also excellent homemade shortbread, replenished daily. Gilpin has changed since our last visit, when it was called Gilpin Lodge. On arrival we had a wander around the grounds to see the animals (pigs and llamas) and to see the grounds and new rooms. We found the breakfast to be a little underwhelming, I was served completely cold porridge one morning which had to be returned. We ate in both restaurants .. Source the meal was delicious and I also had an excellent Passionfruit Martini, and we ate at Spice the following evening, watching the chefs in action, which was fab with a great atmosphere. Gilpin is lovely and we really enjoyed our stay, even though it is a bit pricey.

We came here to eat at the Gilpin Spice for our anniversary. We felt so looked after. There is a constant flow of waiters coming around and checking in on you. In other places this can feel like an interruption, but here it feels very organic and gives the place an effortless flow. They really have got that down so well. The food is outstanding, everything we had was so very delicious. The value for money is amazing too. We highly recommend this place.
