Hotels Near Martyrs Monument in Sousse Medina

Highly recommended. It is located on the street that leads to the medina. Very central. It is a hostel, clean, minimal, unpretentious but very cheap. The furnishings could be a little more refined but it's still fine. We stayed two nights. Friendly reception staff. Does not accept credit card.

Very good hotel

As a coastal tourist city in Tunisia, Sousse has low consumption. The hotel has free parking. There are police and security personnel at the entrance, and it feels like it is being guarded by layers. The hotel has a private beach, booked sea view rooms, directly facing the sea. But the room facilities are old. The hotel has three meals, and the buffet has many varieties, which is very good. Many elderly people in Europe come to live for a few months and feel like a European nursing home.

Although billed as a five star hotel, do not expect five star by Western European standards. This is not a criticism as it was anticipated by us, so we were not underwhelmed because we managed our expectations. Before you visit this resort, it is important to do just that - manage expectations.  Therefore, I am reviewing from that point of view, rather than from what I would normally expect of a five star hotel and am.comparing it to other, similar resorts I have visited. First impressions were very good, with a grand looking Middle Eastern / Persian style reception area which was clean, nicely furnished and cool with good air conditioning. Despite being 2am, we were met by a friendly receptionist, given small flower necklaces and a cold bottle of water each. We filled out some paperwork and were asked to pay around 80 dinars in local tax. This wasn't expected or explained anywhere, however, I subsequently found out it is normal and legal practice. We then made our way to our room and our luggage was brought to us. As a family of four, with two teenage children, I had booked a Junior Suite because the description on their website describes them as two bedroom suites, with a queen bed in one, and two singles in the other, with a separate living area. This criteria was a huge influence for us as we not only wanted separate bedrooms, but also really wanted a separate living area to relax during the evenings or other free time we had. We were disappointed to walk in and find just two interconnected bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two singles. There was no sitting room. Each bedroom had a balcony with a couple of chairs and a table and the main bedroom had a large bathroom with a big walk in shower, sink and toilet. The other bedroom had a separate toilet. Other than the disappointment of no sitting room, the bedrooms were comfortable enough, clean and nicely furnished. I spoke to the reception in the morning and explained that we had booked a suite with a sitting room. I was told that they do not have such suites. They only have the Junior Suites, which we had and are all set up like ours, or a prestige suite, which has one bedroom with a queen bed and a separate sitting room, however these, I was told, only accommodate two people. I even showed the guy the description and pictures on their own website (attached) but he insisted they do not have rooms like this and the pictures under the description of the junior suite are actually from two different rooms - the junior suite and the prestige suite. I explained that we were disappointed as we had specifically chosen and paid for something else, but there was nothing he could do and offered nothing other than an apology. I told them they need to redesign their website as it is clearly deceiving. Having read previous reviews, we had no issues with our in room air conditioning - it was in fact, very effective. The Marhaba Salem is rated in the TUI brochure as a 4 Star but I have to be honest and say that it closer to a 2/3 star here in the UK. That being said it is a very good hotel that I would be more than happy to go back to at a later date. for me the difference in star ratings are down to the rooms. While the rooms are very comforatable and impeccibly clean, they really do need an upgrade at least the one that we were in. They look old and not really like you see in the brochures. The staff are absolutely fantastic throughout the hotel and always said hello and smiled so no issue with them. The hotel itself is locate half way between PEK and Sousse which is roughly an hours walk if you are feeling enegetic or a 5 - 10 minute taxi ride which is easy to get and very cheap (just dont get the one directly outside the hotel). Food was amazing throughout our week stay and although I am one of the worlds fussiest and plain eaters I always found (too much) to eat. If you are thinking of going, just temper your expectations with regards to the rooms and without a doubt you will have a fantastic time.

A fantastic week! We had a room with a pool and sea view. Beautiful. Our room was very clean and was maintained by a lovely lady who tidied, cleaned and gave us fresh towels. What a beautiful, spotlessly clean pool to relax by. Slides were such great fun for the kids. Helpful staff around at all times. Bar staff very helpful and made special drinks for the kids. Such a treat to be so close to the beach! Beautiful beach bar with a lovely, helpful bar man. Animation team - Kimo-was very friendly and fantastic with our kids. He checked in on us often and made sure there were activities for kids to participate in. We loved aqua-aerobics, basketball, tennis and darts. Loads of energy and always had a smile and chat for us. What a lovely guy 🙂. The food has been excellent - varied and always plenty of choice. The hotel is generally a little tired and could do with some attention (for example, air conditioning in room not great and balcony door broken.). For us, this all added to the charm and any mild issues were well put-weighed by incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Thank-you for a very special week.

Wonderful from start to finish! I could not recommend this hotel more. For me, it was the hotel team. The hotel community went out of their way to connect with others and genuinely seemed to care. They showed pride in customer service and expressed that they take their five-star reputation seriously. The room standard was amazing. Due to rooms being fully booked over Christmas, I needed to switch hotels for the main Christmas days. I switched to the biggest and supposedly most “ luxury “ hotel in Sousse. Honestly, the switch was not worthwhile. I realized just how exceptional the quality is at the Iberostar Selection Kantaoui Bay. The housekeeping team visited daily providing toiletries, clean bathrobes and nice extras ( such as sweets and chocolates) to the room. Their friendly faces with their cheerful banter were a pleasure to embrace each day. The food quality was great! I do not consume meat or dairy but that didn’t make a difference, there truly is something for everyone. The fresh food selection was incredible and certainly unbeatable to those I had tried elsewhere in Sousse and Tunis. The cooks shared helpful recommendations and I tried a range of fresh local flavours. This hotel was comfortable, with a cheerful friendly team and positioned with an exceptional view of a gorgeous quiet beach. I would happily stay again, and I highly recommend the Iberostar Selection Kantaoui Bay. I would like to extend a huge thank you to the remarkable team.

I do not even know where to start – for most, it was great – lovely surroundings, white sand beach, not a problem to find a sunbed (maybe because it was not the height of the season), very nice and attentive service, excellent food and quite palatable wine (especially when compared with what you get in similar hotels in Egypt). Rooms are spacious and clean, perhaps a bit worn around the corners, but nothing really offending, beds are comfortable. There are no water bottles in the room, but you can always get one from the beach bar or 24 h bar in the lobby. The latter is also very convenient if you are planning an excursion which starts early: they will provide coffee and a sandwich any time. Of the negatives – there are very few. During weekends they have a disco in the club which is noisy, but it stops around 11-12 pm, so not that big deal. Room cleaning time was inconvenient – at least our room was being cleaned around the start of lunchtime, so as a rule, when we came from a beach, we had either to wait or to tell the cleaner we only needed fresh towels.

Top hotel, top service, top food, top entertainment staff, no respect for hotel guests!!! Held hotel guests very naked very casual not dressed very shocking!!! in the hotel entrance hall and in the buffet restaurant it is necessary to review the clothing of certain customers (female) we must respect the very vulgar people see half naked for a very beautiful hotel it spoils the image of this hotel inappropriate behavior of certain customers and the host flirts with customers, a shame for such a beautiful establishment!!! To see urgently the rooms are perfect maid at the top very clean establishment despite the rest thank you to the service staff and respect the rest to see again urgently lack of respect thank you to the manager and the director to review certain details thank you for your welcome .
