I stayed in room 305 from 16th-20th October I thought I had been bitten by mosquitos. I had 27 bites on my left leg and 11 on my right. On return home I went to the pharmacy and was told it was bed bug bites. I contacted the hotel they were brilliant. They got their maintenance team to inspect the room where no evidence of bed bugs were found. They also got their disinfection partner to inspect the room who also found no evidence of bed bugs. Now I am home the bites have fully healed.

My husband and I spent 4 nights The property sits up high on a beautiful mountain road overlooking the water far below …outdoor area very pretty /decks and pool area gardens & flowers Front lobby bright & modern updates Restaurant area and bar area with large windows Reception friendly however room wasn’t quite what we expected Very outdated with a damp smell and some type of overpowering spray to cover up the damp…. Most unpleasant if you are sensitive Bathroom very old and dim lighting There was a balcony with a fantastic view…room is spacious with lots of storage in the wardrobes No safe / bed not too comfortable The walk to town is possible but certain stretches of road required hugging the mountain ….. that said the scenery along walk is breathtaking The breakfast was ample The thing we enjoyed best was the dinner menu We paid a fixed price each night For a delicious 3 course meal and were not ever disappointed The local wine from Sorrento was perfect There were 2 employees that really stood out as most courteous and professional They were the servers on most every breakfast and dinner we had there Always welcoming and with a smile Don’t know the names of these two women but they are a total asset to this property We took a full day van tour of the Amalfi coast set up as an add on excursion through front desk Mariano the guide/driver was Perfect Outstanding way to spend our last day

Ultimo bagno, nuotata in acque limpide,in ottobre.

No complaints about our trip. Beautiful hotel, clean and comfortable with friendly staff and good food. Our room was spotless. We had a south facing room, which meant no sea view, but we had sun on the balcony for most of the day. The whole hotel was very clean. We were on half board, and the food was good. Breakfast was a typical continental buffet breakfast, with additional hot bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages, but the cold selection was brilliant (OK, I love cheese and salami anyway!) with cold meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, nuts, pastries, cakes as well as breads and rolls. Evening meal was 3 courses, and many of the dishes were 'traditional' Italian dishes. Starter usually had at least one pasta or risotto option, with the main course being meat, fish or seafood with potatoes and veg. The portions of the latter were a little small, but the starters were filling enough for it not to matter. Sweet usually had the option of cake type dish, ice cream or fresh fruit. Drinks were an optional extra, but they hotel has a good selection of wines as well as beers and soft drinks. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. On the couple of occasions we ate out in the evening, the local food was pretty reasonably priced for what we had (pizza and/or pasta), about what you'd expect to pay in the UK. The hotel is a bit of a walk from town - about 15 to 20 minutes we found, and, yes, it is on a hill, but we found the slope to be a steady climb rather than steep, so there wasn't a great deal of exertion, and neither of us are particularly fit. The approach to the hotel (3-5 minutes) is on a section of road that has no pavements, but we found the local drivers knew to avoid pedestrians and we never felt unsafe walking it. If you don't want to walk, there is a frequent bus service and taxis are available too. (The only occasion walking it became difficult was in a thunderstorm where it was akin to gorge walking!). Crossing the road at the hotel is difficult as it's a double junction, so I'd recommend crossing at the bus stop about 15 metres down the hill. We didn't use the pool or sun loungers as the hotel was a base for trips to Herculeaneum, Capri, Pompeii etc.

Metropole hotel The hotel location is difficult, the walk into town if uncomfortable, dangerous, it’s mentioned in most reviews and with good reason. You need bottled water and it’s a challenge to carry water, wine and beer back up the hill, no pavement for quite a bit of the road and they drive like *******. It is quite stressful walking. We had a basic twin room, no safe, no fridge which was a pain, they have safes are at reception but that’s a faff every day. our room had mould in the bathroom and doorway, however we had a twin and it was on the end so nice and quiet so we stuck it out, our clothes were a bit damp and I don’t think we could have done more than a week in that room. Our room number was 219, we were half board for a week. Breakfast was just ok, cold boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, hotdog sausages and some bacon, fresh fruit yogurt ham, cheese toast etc. if you wanted an omelette it was €6, 2 fried eggs €5 see price list pic! So even when breakfast is included you have to pay for eggs etc. very loud music at breakfast, people complained and it was eventually turned down The head waiter (older guy with very short hair) in the restaurant was very grumpy and rude, he ignored most customers and left the rest of the team to get tea/coffee for people, after waiting 15 mins I just went and asked him if we could have some tea and he just shouted to another waiter to get it. At breakfast you are given a set menu for dinner and you have to order what you would like, a basic menu but it was ok, eating and drinking out is quite expensive so we just went with it. Plenty of sun loungers no issues getting beds, snacks available for lunch and quite reasonable. The pool toilet had no soap, no hand towels or dryer, just not good enough really when you can’t wash your hands! Take plenty mosquito repellent as they are everywhere and people were covered in bites we used deet and bands we got online

Best half board food and staff we have experienced for many years. Being a fussy eater I found there was always something I could eat and the food was actually tasty. I loved the fresh produce used. The staff worked hard and did their best to make our stay a happy one. At breakfast the food was always being replenished. We loved the fresh fruit and plain yoghurt. Plenty of choices . The pancake machine which I used this morning was nice with walnuts and fresh yogurt. We were grateful for a kettle and daily tea and coffee which we enjoyed on our little balcony overlooking Mount Vesuvius. We had the added bonus of having views of many fireworks over the weekend. Try and get part or full sea view . Our room was always freshened up and replenished when needed. We loved the hot shower and the room was a lovely size for our stay. The pool was cold however, it was refreshing after a day out site-seeing. My husband jumped in and after 30 seconds it was lovely. A 10 - 15 min stroll to Sorrento . Just Becareful as the first five minutes is on a road . The traffic is used to people walking up and down that road. I used my phone light when walking in the evening. There are bus stops but if you want to go to Amalfi then go to the train station and buy a bus ticket. One queue for the bus whilst the other buys the ticket from kiosk in left hand corner. Trains for Pompeii are easy to use, go early . The hotel did us a pack breakfast for 6.15 am one morning so we could get to Herculaneum on the early train . We enjoyed it overlooking the historic site. The hotel is manned 24 hrs which was reassuring. Again all the staff were very nice and helpful. We mentioned in the dining room that we were going for pizza the following night and we were recommended Francos pizzas near the train station. It was really authentic and delicious. It looks basic from outside however, looks can be deceiving. The rustic inside was packed with all ages and all the food looked delicious. Thankyou to the hotel for a wonderful stay.

Just back from a week's stay at the Hotel Metropole and had to write a review! The hotel is wonderful - not too large but spacious in all areas. We had a superior room with partial sea views so imagine our delight when we opened the doors and found a wonderful view of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Lovely large, comfortable bed and really good shower and extremely clean throughout our stay. Plenty of sunbeds throughout the week and a big shout out to all the staff - waiting staff in the restaurant, bar staff, cleaners and reception staff. Also to those we didn't see - kitchen staff - loads of choice at breakfast and good variety for evening meal. The walk into town is lovely even though part of it has no footpath -- remember to walk facing oncoming traffic and it's fine. Overall, a lovely stay and, if we return to the area, we will definitely return to this hotel.
