We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. But the main drawback is that this resort is HUGE, and you will walk a LOT. But we loved being able to snorkel with the sea turtles everyday, at the Palace next door. There are plenty of food options, with everything you may want at the breakfast buffet, including made-to-order omelettes, bacon, sausage, cereals, fruit, and more. The lunch buffet at Las Palmeras by the pool always had a salad bar, burgers, hot dogs, two or three chicken and beef dishes, some variety of fish, and deserts at every meal. The specialty restaurants were okay, but not great. Santa Fe's steaks were not high quality, and neither was Rodizio's at the Palace. But we LOVED the Marenostrum seafood restaurant at the Colonial, and La Fuente Spanish restaurant which I believe was at the Barcelo Caribe. We did opt for a Premium room at the Tropical which was well worth it. We had a upper floor room with a wonderful view of the pool and the ocean, and also access to dine at all of the Specialty restaurants during our entire weeklong stay. On the down side, there are not enough ice machines, and the coffee at the buffets really needs to be upgraded. The "latte" machines and the regular coffee poured by the waiters, were unfortunately not good quality at all. But there are plenty of food and drink options at every meal, and you will not be disappointed. But bring your best walking shoes, because there's a huge distance between everything here at the Barcelo resort. Luckily, there's a Barcelo double-decker bus to help transport you between each Barcelo resort, which came in handy. But there's a 20-30 min. wait between each bus coming to pick you up at the hotel lobby.
