Lovely setting for the hotel. The hotel's ambience is charming and every room has a river view, it seems. The rooms are clean, the shower is fine, etc. We have stayed here 3 times, so we like it. Some rooms are spacious and wonderful. Our last room, however, was very small, and not very comfortable (room #12). Apart from the bed, there were two hard wooden chairs at the foot of the bed. The TV was to the left of the bed, and to the right of the chairs, making it perpendicular to them so that there was no way of using it. In addition, the women at the front desk seem to have forgotten that they are working in the hospitality business. We were early for check-in, and understood we may not be able to check in right away. The first woman curtly told us we were early, but she was at least kind enough to let us know she can call us when the room is ready. She did so within half an hour and we headed back. When we got back, there was another woman at the front desk, and she was short with us, telling us we are early and the room is not ready. We told her we had been called, and she backed off and let us in, but it was not a good way to treat guests. In addition, the breakfast, is varied in its offerings that include varied fruits, cake, cereal, juices, etc. It is served in a lovely restaurant overlooking the river. The staff (cook?) was gracious when we arrived earlier for breakfast than we had signed up for. They had prepared a very beautiful looking frittata-a work of art! However, that beauty needed more taste.

Lovely stay in a quaint historical inn. Very good dinner onsite and breakfast. Windows open in the room (room #15) with a ceiling fan which I always enjoy. Plus electric gas fireplace and a river view with balcony. Highly recommended. Walk to Black Bass Inn - another historical inn and cross over the bridge to a lush park. You need to drive to New Hope yet there is enough for one night/afternoon to stay put here.

New Hope, PA has become the destination Wedding Venue for the Philadelphia, NYC Axis. We seem to be visiting frequently. The 1740 House is a charming two story B&B built alongside Delaware Canal Park. Each comfortable room has sturdy farmhouse furniture, overlooks the Delaware River and is connected to a shared porch with outdoor seating. The main common room has appropriately wide and creaky floorboards, comfortable overstuffed sofas, an always open coffee/tea bar and a fireplace. Lots of places for friends and family to gather. At least the breakfast is not scrambled powdered eggs. Quaint Lumberville is just far enough distant from tacky New Hope to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, bike/walk the canal path, stroll across the Delaware pedestrian bridge, raft, float, kayak down the Delaware; yet close enough that the short drive back from the Wedding Reception not a worrisome burden. I’ve already made reservations for my next wedding.

This is a quaint, quiet inn along the beautiful Delaware River, 20 minutes from New Hope, which has become a tacky free blocks of T-shirt shops and souvenirs for day-trippers from Philadelphia . Lambertville, NJ, has more upscale galleries and boutiques. The hotel room we were given had a wonderful and comfortable king-sized bed, but the bathroom was tiny and kind of vintage 1970s. One venetian blind in our room was broken, but being a Saturday, there was no maintenance person around to repair or replace it. No big deal, but not a great impression. The buffet breakfast was very good and the view of the river was excellent. My wife and I had stayed here decades before and it was pleasant to return. I'm not sure we'd go back if we were in the area as there are many other options nearby. The common room and bar are great, but small.

My husband and I went for our anniversary and they made it so special. They even had a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon arrival. The room was great, the dinner and drinks were amazing, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly! We are going to make it our new anniversary tradition.

A truly hidden gem! The room (which we got upgraded to because they were generous enough to accommodate my wife's pregnancy) was immaculate with a great view, the service and hospitality was top-notch, and the FREE breakfast was on-par, if not better than, breakfasts you'd typically overpay for!
