My partner was visiting Shrewsbury and we wanted somewhere that was central to be able to stay. We have been to Cromwells a few times for food and drink and have always been impressed. We spoke to the owner who gave us an excellent rate on one of their rooms with a 4 poster bed. Check in was seamless and the room was very impressive. The bed was very comfortable. Nothing was too much for the staff. Will 100% be staying again. Thank you so much. Laura & Jon.

We stayed at Cromwells for a couple of nights, it is a very old building so be aware that the floor is not completely level, the staff were very good, helpful and very pleasant. The food excellent, would highly recommend staying and eating there, perhaps earplugs would bee useful as it can be a bit noisy at night due to being on a one-way street. Very nice place to visit, the river within walking distance.

We paid £90 for a one night stay with breakfast in late July while visiting local attractions. The hotel was in a great location and the staff were all really friendly. Our room was lovely, with a four poster (comfy) bed and tea & coffee making facilities. Unfortunately the shower room was really grotty and let the rest of our accommodation down very badly. We had booked a table for dinner and duly placed our order - the Friday night 'special' of 2 steaks and a bottle of house wine for £45 - which seemed like a great deal. Unfortunately 3/4 hour later we had still not received our meal. It arrived promptly after we complained, but was over-cooked and unappetising - we had to send it back. The house red wine was not much better. The breakfast the following morning was mediocre and of a similar ilk to our meal the night before. Shame really as the front of house staff were all friendly and enthusiastic, but let down by the kitchen. We would probably recommend trying one of the (many) other hotels and pubs/bars with rooms in Shrewsbury. On a different note, and nothing to do with Cromwells Hotel, may parts of Shrewsbury were overwhelmed by the smell of raw sewerage, including some of the town centre shops and bars (but not the Cromwells Hotel), which made the whole town centre experience far from pleasant.

We were looking forward to our second stay at Cromwells, some twelve years after the first, and we weren’t disappointed. Our room was excellent, warm and comfortable with an impressive four poster bed and a sofa. There was a voucher in the room for a complimentary drink so we headed to the bar, well it would have been rude not too! The Shropshire Gold was excellent, as was my wife’s Chardonnay. We had booked a table for later so perused the menu whilst chatting to the new managers, they had only been there for six weeks but seemed well settled in. A little later we returned to the bar for another drink (we had to pay this time sadly) and our meal which was excellent. I had the Stilton tart starter and the vegetable Thai green curry main, both of which I enjoyed at least as much as my wife enjoyed her pate and Coq au Vin. Great food and great service, what more could we want. After our evening out “on the town” we returned and enjoyed a nightcap in the cosy bar before heading back to our room for a comfortable night. After the excellent evening meal we had high hopes for breakfast, and again we were not disappointed. In fact it was probably one of the best we’ve ever had, with everything being cooked to perfection, especially my two poached eggs which were spot on. The only slight downside to Cromwells is that it doesn’t have a car park. There are car parks fairly close by but you can only pay for the day of arrival, necessitating a walk to the car park to feed the machine for each subsequent day. It’s not an unpleasant walk, if the weather is kind as it was for me luckily, but the charging period start at 8am, so if you fancy a lie in, forget it! (Or send the wife :)). Had it not been for the slight hassle with the parking we would have rated it 5/5. We’ll definitely be back, and we won’t leave it for 12 years next time.

Decided to have a mini break In Shrewsbury as had visited there before. We could not get a reservation at the hotel we previously had stayed at so opted for The Cromwell. We were greeted on arrival by a really pleasant young lady,Despite us being really early, with the intention of just depositing our baggage we were told that as our room was ready we could go straight to it...this really is unusual. The room was lovely with a four poster bed, modern bathroom and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was exceptional. We had the full English and everything was perfect, and freshly cooked and hot. We will stay here again and recommend it. .

Great location. In the heart of Shrewsbury. Eaten and had drinks here but first time staying. Would definitely recommend. Staff lovely and room very clean. Downsides - hairdryer. Useless. Bring your own and check in. Had to wait a little bit but the staff were so busy we didn't mind.
