We spent two nights here as we were going to Sedgefield Races. This is a traditional pub with good home cooking and a good selection of beers and other drinks. The rooms are a bit old fashioned but excellent value at £80 for B&B. The staff were, without exception, friendly and efficient. The Dun Cow seems to be a fixture in the community as the extensive dining room and bar were full on a Tuesday evening and many people also seemed to pop in for morning coffees or lunch. Special thanks go to Mark, the chef, who drove us to the races on a wet day!

I never normally write reviews but in this case it's a must. My cousin suggested the dun cow inn after doing a family tree & finding out our 3rd time grandmother had worked there. The food was absolutely amazing especially the chips & the service from the staff was really good too. I would definitely recommend the dun cow inn

We decided to go for Easter Sunday dinner after driving past the week before and seeing how busy it was. We had the Lamb and the Turkey both very nice. The only down side was the bowl of Veg that came was probably only enough for myself never mind two of us. It was busy so after a ten minute wait decided against pudding. Will defo be back for another visit soon

Excellent food excellent service would of give it 5 stars if it hadn’t been for a waitress asking are you having wine then removing glasses then are you having starters no Removed knifes and forks and plates Just felt they could of left them as we were interrupted some many times

I had a great little stay in this traditional hotel. I was immediately impressed to be informed that they would go out and buy gluten free bread and sausages for my breakfasts when I told them of my intolerance. Going by the busyness of the restaurant each night it must be a very good place to eat (I only got to eat an evening meal once due to my work, my loss). The staff were very friendly and accommodating throughout.

If you want somewhere to stay that is NOT corporate all that that entails, then this might be the answer. It's a traditional pub, but a quiet one. Arrive put your bag in the room (Room is oldy worldy but it's fine), go have a relaxing pint. You can literally park by the front door, so very handy. Want something to eat, well if you arrive late like me the bar food was finished, an OK Chinese is right opposite for a takeway to the Dun Cow. Breakfast is full English and really good. Price inc' this excellent breakfast a very reasonable 70 quid.

Rang to book table was told one would be allocated. Arrived had to stand at the side of the bar until everyone was served. One person serving and a girl running backwards and forwards to back room. Told to sit anywhere. Sat down and waited and waited and waited. Tried to get girls attention. Did not see any orders being taken or food being served. We left, thanks Dun Cow great night.

We stayed overnight at The Dun Cow recently due to a family wedding nearby. When we arrived the smell of the food was amazing. The pub was busy with diners and is clearly popular with the locals. We’ll definitely be going back for an evening meal. A very warm welcome from all staff. The rooms were cosy, clean and well equipped. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, a good choice and the cooked breakfast was delicious. A couple of staff members stood out. There was a young lad working behind the bar who knew his gins well and recommended several. He was right. However the standout staff member for us was Richard who greeted us in reception when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Even to the point of offering us a lift to the wedding venue rater than struggling to get a taxi. He ensured we were looked after and is a credit to the business. We will be back.

I wanted somewhere for an overnight stay near the A1 , with onsite parking , where i could have something good to eat and drink and a comfortable sleep. The Dun Cow ticks all those boxes . Despite the many pubs and restaurants in Sedgefield . I decided to eat here and wasnt disappointed - the food was excellent. Even on a very busy saturday evening the service was exemplary and my room ( despite it being an old building ) , was spacious and very well equipped . A special mention for all the staff who - at reception , in the bar and in the restaurant at breakfast - were all unfailingly efficient , but also relaxed and very friendly . At a time when some hospitality venues seem to be cutting corners , The Dun Cow is getting it right . many thanks
