The tiny room was overpriced and unattractive, especially with the ceiling in the hallway with a tarp to prevent it from dropping unto the floor. Have never paid so much for so little.

This is a hostel revamped into a Marriott property. The decor is cute, but rooms are LOUD with road noise. It’s situated directly across the street from a “gentleman’s club.” Ensure to bring ear plugs because the staff will direct you to the supply cabinet where there aren’t any. I had a white noise app cranked to max volume and you could still hear the road. Rooms are very small and the shower is literally in the space for your knees on the toilet. I arrived early to check in and staff held my bags, saying they would inform me when a room was ready. My colleague arrived after me, but received a room immediately and about an hour before I received a text that one was ready for me. We booked the same room type through our company. There was a very nice woman that was helpful with restaurant recommendations. Walkable to a number of good restaurants.

There were many rooms available the day of checkout, and yet the staff refused to accommodate a late checkout for our poolside room. My lowly Gold status at Marriott (having been platinum & titanium for 10 years prior) did not guaranteed late checkout, but I have literally never been denied late checkout at any other Marriott. They said they "could only try to accommodate it for my status" at the desk, but then denied the request in spite of discounted rooms being available on Hotel tonight - which clearly implies low occupancy for the night. Stay away from the nightmare of customer service you will get at this establishment!

Absolute worst hotel ever. We were told guaranteed 4:00 check in. We showed up after 4:00 and the room still wasn’t ready because the prior guests had stayed well past their late check out and still hadn’t left the room. Hotel management hadn’t done anything to make them leave. At that point they were just starting to try to get them out but then they would still have needed time to clean the room. We had to take a much smaller room just to be able to get into a room. And we still had to wait over a half an hour for them to get the room ready. The room is terrible. It is very small and the bathroom is ridiculous. It is so small you can’t close the shower door and have someone else use the toilet. The prices they are charging for this level of room is highway robbery. The location is great but so not worth the price. Do not stay here.

I am a loyal Marriott rewards member but the word disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it. This is not a hotel. It should be classified as a motel or even a hostel. The marketing pictures are very misleading and the cost doesn't match the quality. Here's why: At check-in we learned that the 'Waterman' is being converted into a 'Moxy' Hotel. I recognize it's in a college town but I wasn't prepared for the dorm-like vibe they are leaning into. Once you get past the construction zone that consumed the first floor/main entrance, the rooms are very juvenile and the walls are paper thin. I am honestly in shock that they feel it's appropriate to charge $500 for a one-night stay. There is no separation between the hallway and your room - suffice to say, you hear everything outside your door. EVERYTHING. The bathroom door is frosted glass so there is zero to no privacy. There was a mold-rot-type smell in the bathroom that would not go away. This may have something to do with the fact that the sink didn't drain and the toilet is essentially in the shower. So if you happen to shower and want to use the toilet, it's a wet sloppy mess. This place is false advertising at its finest. I will never come back and am honestly feel like we were misled and ripped off. Expecting customers to pay a 5-star rate while under construction doesn't reconcile with me as a good business practice. Shame on you Marriott.

Had such an amazing time at the Waterman in Santa Barbara. They are in the process of converting into a Moxy Hotel and the small touches all ready look and feel amazing. The front desk was extremely welcoming at check in and the rooms were thoughtfully decorated with added welcome amenities at check in. Angela, the General Manager went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing but satisfactory and we mentioned it was our 6 year wedding anniversary prior to check-in and she surprised us with balloons and bubbles in our room. She even went over a small itinerary with us and pointed us to great spots to try food and cocktails before our dinner plans. I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone looking to have a fun time and be in walking distance of the best restaurants, tasting rooms, and bars Santa Barbara has to offer. Big shout out to the GM and team for making our anniversary so special!

Comfy bed! Some rooms are more spacious than others. Thin walls. Great location and super kind and special staff. Go to Santa Barbara pizza House in downtown for delicious pizzas and great service! And the line at Janine’s is worth the lil wait ;) many things closed if thanksgiving holiday.

Fun, new vibe hotel! Small rooms as others mentioned but smart use of the space. We booked for one night and asked for poolside. We got bottom floor with patio to the pool area. Friendly staff, welcome beverage choice of wine or ale. Lite parking and close to beach and restaurants.

This hotel seems to be newly renovated, unfortunately they clearly cut corners leaving the experience overall lacking. This plus the location right next to the highway (and no sound proofing at all) lead this to be one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had. We’re Marriott loyalists and this experience has me wondering if we should be. Pros - Staff was friendly, only reason this is a two star not one star review Cons - Location right next to the highway and no sound proofing means no relaxing or sleep. We heard cars, trucks and ambulances scream by at all hours of the day and night. We heard every sound and bump from people above us down the hall, at check in, etc. also all day and all night. - Rooms are spartan. Lighting is terrible with one bright overhead light and an odd decision around window shades. We were on the ground floor and there is only one fully blackout shade. You can either change with the world watching or be plunged into darkness at 3pm. Strangely the doors to the rooms don’t block out light from the hallways either so at night your room is strangely lit. - Bathrooms were clearly skipped in the renovation. Toilet barely worked, very tiny and strange set up. - Just not worth it for any price, and for what the current rates are you can find better hotels in the area. Overall, I’d never stay here again and would actively recommend finding another hotel.
