"We recently spent a long weekend at the B&B in August, with a group of six, booking the three Superior Sea View Rooms at £170 per room per night. Unfortunately, I must echo the sentiments of some recent reviews; we found it to be lacking in value for the price. Beverley was very accommodating during our booking process and allowed us to check in earlier than the standard time, which we appreciated. We were aware from prior reviews about the narrow staircase leading to the rooms, so that was not a surprise. The size of the rooms was decent, but that was where our satisfaction ended. The decor felt dated, with chairs and sofas covered in sheepskins and throws, which detracted from a fresh and inviting atmosphere. While the windows could be opened, the presence of seagulls and pigeons made it impractical to leave them unattended. A mesh screen would be a great addition, allowing the guests to enjoy fresh air at night during the summer, as the small ventilators provided were insufficient for proper ventilation. As someone who is 1.70m (5.6 feet) tall, I found it quite a stretch to reach the roller blind chain. Thankfully, the other five members of our party were taller, but it might pose a challenge for shorter guests. The complimentary toiletries consisted of a hand soap and a shower gel from Lidl. While I have nothing against Lidl products, I expected more from a B&B that markets itself as luxury. At the very least, I anticipated branded toiletries and a separate shampoo or a 2-in-1 product rather than just a shower gel. Additionally, one of the bathrooms was missing a spare toilet roll, which was disappointing. Upon entering the B&B, we noticed a distinct smell from the two resident dogs, particularly in the ground-level area where the breakfast room is located. This was not the welcoming atmosphere we had hoped for. The breakfast experience was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of our stay. The options included a cooked breakfast, scrambled eggs with salmon, pancakes with fruit, as well as cereal + yogurt + fruit. Typically, even in more budget-friendly B&Bs, guests can mix and match cereals and fruits with other choices, but that was not the case here. The fruit provided was limited to bananas and grapes, which felt underwhelming, especially during the summer when a wider variety is available. While the cooked food was acceptable, it was nothing to write home about, and the pancakes were clearly not homemade. Toast was served with butter and two small jars of marmalade, but there were no options for different types of bread or pastries like croissants as shown on some of the photos. The only juice available was orange, poured from a long-life carton into a jug that barely provided enough for all six of us to have a small glass. Coffee and tea were also offered, but overall, the price we paid did not align with the quality and variety of what we received.
