The Purple Martin Lakeside Inn Bird Sanctuary on Lake Huron

Unique Botique The PMI was very clean and comfortable. Owners were great and their service and that of the staff was superb. A very unique and fun place to stay. Lake Huron could have been warmer (Ha!). Hope to return next year (we come up from Florida each year).

GROSS! My family and I stayed at the Inn's cottage. When we arrived for our reservation the cottage was hot & stinky. Windows were closed up and no air conditioning running on a hot summer's day. There is 1 small window air conditioner for the entire place. Besides the heat, the first thing you notice is the gross, mildewy smell when you walk in the front door. Smells like Grandma's attic. Plus, black mold all around the bathtub. The Master Bedroom bed felt like a concrete slab. And what they don't show you on the website is that 3 out of 4 beds are actually in an attached garage & literally placed next to the Inn's storage area of vacuum cleaners, towels etc. Speaking of supplies, they don't even supply toilet paper. At least they were kind enough to supply a fly swatter, so you could swat at all the flying insects landing on you while you're trying to sleep in a garage. Then the cleaning lady busts in the cottage the next morning to do loads of laundry during your stay. We were scheduled to stay 2 nights but we couldn't handle 1 more night and chose to stay at another hotel. If you make the mistake of staying at this place, BYOTP (bring your own toilet paper) and be prepared for a rough night ahead. Before writing this review I brought my concerns to the hotel owner. She was rudely dismissive and refused to refund us for the extra night.

We had an amazing time here. The owner happened to be there when we arrived and was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The view is amazing, the rooms are cozy, and the property is beautiful. There is easy access to a terrific restaurant and downtown is walkable. I highly recommend it! We will be back.

We will definitely be coming back! Loved the inn! Peaceful, quiet and calm. Close enough to walk to downtown and right on the water! Very relaxing outdoor seating. Watching the birds was fun. Couldn’t ask for more! Highly recommend this fun, funky spot!

Charming place. Fantastic small town. The Inn is right on Lake Huron We came for our 33rd wedding anniversary. Had a great stay. Plenty of hiking, waterfall, lakeshore walking, and lighthouse to checkout. Very nice talking to Larry about the town , the history of the Inn and of course purple martins.
