Phillips Historic Motel & Cottages

I came with my boyfriend for the weekend, so we could jump on the motorcycle and ride The Tail of the Dragon. Originally I was booked in a 1 bedroom apartment. The pictures were kind of sketchy, but on short notice we took it because everything else that was available everywhere had bunk beds. When we checked in, the gentleman at the desk was super friendly, and even offered some suggestions on places to eat in the area. We made it to the apartment and the bedroom had bunk beds and a regular bed. So we would have been able to sleep together and still have a place to put our luggage and such with the other beds in the room. It was small with a sofa and a dining table. But it had a kitchen area and a TV, so we would have been fine with it. It was clean. But as soon as I got in there and set some things down, the gentleman came over to me and said he was giving us a free upgrade to a house. His reasoning was that the yard people had not been to the property yet and that the area right next to the apartment made it look bad. So we moved over to a small 3 bedroom house! It was spotless and cozy. It was so nice to be able to put our things in another bedroom so they didn't clutter up the room we slept in, or take up any room. And since we did not ride the Tail after dark, it was great to come back to the house, get comfy, and lay on the couches watching TV. We REALLY enjoyed our stay at Phillips Historic Motel & Cottages, and when we come back (because we WILL be coming back), I will most likely try to book the same house again! The rooms were very clean and comfortable. It is conveniently located, and they are very accommodating .The reason for my visit was very unpleasant, but the owner and his assistant, went out of their way to make sure I was okay. Even though I was alone, it felt like I was with family.

We had never been to Robbinsville before and this looked like a good access point to the Cherohala Skyway (which it is). However, this is one of the worst places we have ever stayed, both the motel and the town. The lobby is creepy and in very dim lighting day and night. The floor was cracked and unlevel in our room. You actually walk uphill to the bathroom! There was a used candy-wrapper on the sill. The blinds had bent-up slats. My bed had very creaky mattress springs. The bathmat was quite used and worn out. The sheets were dirty! Hairs and black particles. Disgusting. Ended up re-making our own beds with different sheets. No apology was given--just excuses for bad housekeepers. Here what was GOOD about this place: The room lighting was good There was a mini-fridge and microwave The window-unit air conditioner in the wall worked great and was not too loud. Good supply of clean, quality towels. The town itself is a dump. I would have never thought that an area so rich in natural assets could be so low down. There were many empty store-fronts. The sidewalk of Main Street is in bad shape and the buildings are very old and run down. Very, very unattractive and we will not be back. It seems to be mainly a hub for motorcyclists who apparently like coming here for driving The Dragon and other scenic routes. So I guess it's all good enough for them which is in turn, good enough for the motel-keeper.

Main Street in Robbinsville is a pretty sad place. The motel room was worn in all ways you can think of, but clean. Not a place if you want luxury. Over priced for what you get but i have seen worse.

Well this should be called the prehistoric Phillips motel. The Phillips motel is in need of a serious upgrade especially for the price they're charging. To flush the commode you had to hold a lever down and leave it down for a few minutes for everything to flush. The shower was so small that it was almost impossible to turn around inside of it my motor coach actually had a bigger shower than the Phillips motel. The sheets on the bed must have been less than 100 count because they were so thin and frail and they were all kinds of little pills that you can feel on top of the sheets that could be picked off. Even though I have stayed here 2 to 3 times in the past 10 years coming up to Robbinsville to basically run the Tail of the Dragon which is nearby I doubt that I will stay there again because of the very old unmaintained rooms at the prehistoric Phillips motel... LOL

Very nice quaint down to heart clean comfortable bed, very nice French decor and close to the Tail of the Dragon. Bill and his so cute cat are an excellent team. Bill will go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. We stayed in room 107 king size bed, fridge, microwave, sofa, etc. excellent. TV is DIRECT TV a plus. Beautiful grounds and plenty pf patio furniture to relax after a great riding day. We stayed 5 nights and we will be going back. MERCI et a BIENTOT D and J riding BMW

CANT GO WRONG! Quaint, nice enough, clean, and the owner bill is super friendly. One stop shop. For solo motorcyclists, this is the place. Won’t break the bank. Fulfills all needs. Walking distance to restaurants including a good breakfast spot. Also grocery store nearby.

There wasn't much open in town (off-season) when we came, so we were happy to get a hotel room after traveling. It seemed so cute and charming with dragon decor and gardens. But the room... horrible! Super small, with nowhere to put suitcases. It was not clean... the toilet had not been flushed (it looked like someone cleaned the bathroom with tissue and disposed of it in the toilet). There was more used tissue under sink. Bathmat looked like it had never been cleaned. The sheets were worn (holes) and stained. The rug was dirty, the bathroom door didn't close, the bed creaked. The shower stall was very small, and they had applied stick-on dollar store plastic "tiles" to hide the holes from the framing of the upper part of shower wall. This place needs some serious maintenance, which isn't hard to do, but the owners use bandaids instead of replacing and doing actual repairs. It's also very noisy when there are many guests. We overheard a huge fight between another couple. Thankfully, we didn't pay that much to stay here, but it's not about the $.
