Having business in Richmond NSW my husband and I stayed 2 nights at Colonial Motel Richmond this week. We once lived in that area, remembered the Motel and noted that it had been refurbished recently, and it is conveniently situated mid town. Our tariff was $145 per night for a ground floor room with double bed and free parking. I made my booking via a phone call to the Motel, and after a long road trip checked in at 5pm on Monday. On the plus side: the on-phone staff were friendly and helpful as were the reception staff. The car park in front of our unit meant we could have good access to unload and keep an eye on our vehicle. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were 4 comfy pillows and extras in the wardrobe and basic but adequate coffee, tea, milk etc. On the minus side: before we left to meet friends for dinner, I checked the sliding door at the rear of our unit (covered by a curtain) and found it was unlocked, as was the sliding screen door. Inside the entry front door the floor was tiled leading to a carpeted area which was dangerously lower than the edge of the tiled area. Not marked or mentioned as a danger. A trip hazard which I covered with a white towel. While unloading our car in semi darkness, I tripped over the end of the 'car buffer' attached to the road-base car park surface and fell, damaging my elbow and knee. A motel staffer saw it happen, said she had done the same thing, and asked if I was ok. Apart from a severe knee and elbow graze I was fortunately unhurt, but pointed out to her that the buffer was not adequately marked and contravened health and safety regs as it was painted black and blended with the rough tarmac surface of the car park. I notified the reception desk prior to checking out and was told the member of staff had reported it. Our unit was next to a 'private' room from which emanated a very loud, constant, motor sound, possibly a washing machine. A further noise related minus, if you are staying more that one night, is that the Motel is very close to Richmond RAAF base and Tuesday is their 'circuits and bumps' practice day. Very noisy and constant during daylight hours. We visit Richmond regularly on business and would not stay here again.
