The Grand Hotel

San Rafael
Gracias

An alternative form of hotel on first entering but the rooms (which include a small kitchen) are of a very good size, and well appointed. The balcony was also very large and we had a great aspect in Room 212. It is quite a walk from the centre of Punta del Este but can readily be walked. There are also a number of restaurants very close to the hotel, with plenty of choice, and also a convenient supermarket, Fresh Market just a few minutes walk away. The pool was good, and there is also a sauna - no-one else around when we used them. We had an issue on departure, when our transfer did not turn up. The reception staff were very helpful indeed in helping us to book an alternative solution for our journey to Colonia del Sacramento. A great hotel all round
Be House Suites & Spa

I recently stayed at Be House Suites for my best friend's wedding, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite being allocated what was supposedly one of the best rooms in the hotel, I encountered a slew of issues that marred my stay. First and foremost, the pervasive smell of sewage in the bathroom was utterly repugnant. This wasn't just a problem confined to my room; friends staying on the same floor also voiced their grievances about the unpleasant odor permeating their accommodations. There was a noticeable leak in the bathroom of my room, with water incessantly dripping into the bathtub. Understandably, this rendered the tub unusable, detracting from the overall comfort and convenience of the space. On the first day of our stay, our room was inexplicably overlooked, and it remained unclean until I had to complain to front desk. However, the pinnacle of disappointment was reached when, on the morning of our departure following the wedding festivities, the hotel decided to conduct water maintenance without any prior warning. Imagine our shock upon returning from the celebration to find a note hastily taped to our door, informing us that water to all rooms would be shut off. This meant we were unable to shower, flush toilets, or even perform basic hygiene tasks like brushing our teeth before our flight home. To add insult to injury, the hotel failed to provide any alternative solutions or even basic amenities such as extra water bottles. Despite voicing our concerns to the front desk, the response was wholly inadequate. Their (feeble) attempt at appeasement was to offer not charging for items from the mini-bar. When I requested to speak with the manager, I was informed she was unavailable and promised a callback that never materialized. It's evident that customer satisfaction is not a priority for this establishment. In summation, my experience was marred by a litany of issues ranging from subpar cleanliness and maintenance to gross negligence in guest communication and satisfaction.

On the expensive side during the season but I guess that is Punta del Este. Classy place with nice breakfast (although at this price pt, eggs to order should be available), nice rooms, and excellent indoor pool with two saunas as well as an outdoor pool. Room offered one complimentary bottle of water that was hot; again, at this price point two water bottles in the refrigerator should be offered. Asked front desk how to walk to the ocean beach and was give poor instructions; no excuse for this. I guess few people walk since it is a 5 min drive to the ocean, 6-7 minutes to the river side.

Large hotel on the main ocean front in Punto del Este. Probably when built this would have been an amazingly lavish and grand hotel. Still today there is a cavernous lobby area with grand entrance to the hotel. Behind the reception desk area is the ****** - which I did not try - but seemed to attract constant stream of people - but who knows if they left richer or poorer. The rooms are very large but look a little dated and tired now. Large and comfortable bed, adequate storage, A/C etc - all fine. Bathroom also a little tired but perfectly fine. One comment would have to be for breakfast. Buffet style although for many food items you had to be served from a counter which was a little strange and did feel less like usual buffet. Would also need to comment that a family of sparrows had moved into one corner of the breakfast room roof - maybe they could move back out.....?
