Met an old friend for lunch here having not been here for many years and was very very pleasantly surprised. The pub is in a superb location on the edge of the river, perfect for a potter about or a leisurely stroll as well as central for some really good Dartmoor walking. This is a lovely old Dartmoor pub, all its features retained with lovely old oak settles, proper fire in a log stove, whilst being comfortable and welcoming. (The toilets were immaculately clean). Good range of ciders - can't comment on the beer asI don't drink beer. The staff were superb- very warm, humorous, couldn't do enough. Food was very very reasonable with large portions (jacket potatoes, baguettes, pizza, as well as a good range of the usual fish and chips etc) and tasty nosh for a more than reasonable price. I had to ask them to check the bill to make sure they had charged us for everything as it seemed just too low for the good meal we had enjoyed. We ended with a pot of tea that yielded 6 cups but was only charged as one pot for example and the landlady wouldn't charge us anymore - we compromised by asking her to put the change in the tip jar. Very jolly, cheerful staff who seemed to really enjoy their work make such a difference. We will definitely be meeting there from now on.
