The views from the front facing rooms are amazing and we were blessed with good weather to enjoy them. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. My ved was very comfortable although my friend found hers too soft. The beds are small doubles though and whilst fine for single occupancy would have been cosy for a couple. We are in the restaurant one night and the food was good- hot and tasty. Unfortunately on our last evening the whole village suffered a power cut. With no guarantee if it coming back on ( and staying on) we took the decision to stay with relatives for our last night. With very little support from colleagues, receptionist Sophie took the lead in reassuring guests and keeping them informed, albeit she had very little information to pass on. She completely understood my need to ensure I had accommodation with a guaranteed electrical supply for medical equipment and immediately confirmed that our prepaid accommodation costs would be refunded which was done promptly when power was restored. I would definitely stay at The Portpatrick Hotel again if I am in the area.

Had a short stay here on my way over to Ireland. I had a solo room which was an absolute bargain (with Breakfast thrown in). Staff were all very attentive and eager to chat. Honestly, was definitely worth the money and would definitely stay here again.

I recently stayed at this hotel with a group of friends in a car club. Sadly, the experience was not all good. It is in a fantastic location and but there it ends. The staff are trying their best, but seem to be lacking in experience. Steve, in the bar, appears to be the 'jack of all trades' and does his best. The food was adequate, and the buffet style breakfast ok. Gluten free and vegetarian options were limited at breakfast. Rooms - we had 217. If you are a couple avoid this room. You couldn't swing a cat in it, and involved my husband having to climb over me to get into bed! Not the best - sorry!

I’ve now given it two chances which was two too many. First time was earlier in the summer when I was walking part of the southern upland way. I stopped in for a coffee to be ignored by a rather imperious, bored looking guy at reception. The place was deserted. Eventually he couldn’t ignore me any longer. I asked if I could have coffee and he directed me to the bar. I went into the empty bar and waited about 15 minutes and no one appeared. I just left. Today I went back with my husband. This time we were pointedly ignored at reception by 3 people. Again the lobby was empty. Eventually my husband asked one of the women if we could have coffee. She said yes but walked away. Several of the tables in the lobby area had used plates and cans on them. We sat down expecting the table to be cleared and our order to be taken. Eventually the woman appeared with two weak , milky coffees. Which we hadn’t ordered. Apparently it’s that on nothing. They don’t expect you to have a preference. We had to ask her to clear away the used dishes which she did, leaving behind a big puddle of water on the table. When we were leaving an elderly couple asked if they could sit at our table ( admittedly the view from there was spectacular). I went to reception and told the same woman that other people wanted the table but it needed wiping down. She said she would, but as I waited for my husband I noticed she hadn’t bothered and looked like she was leaving for the day. The terrible coffee was £3 each!

Stayed here for four nights, the hotel’s location is spectacular with picturesque views across to the harbour and village. All the staff we encountered were friendly and gave a great service to us, both at reception and in the restaurant. The buffet breakfast had a good choice of cereals, juice, grapefruit, red berry fruit compote, yoghurts. There were also croissants, pain au raisins and pain au chocolat. Cooked items were available including fried and scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, beans, tattie scones etc. Dinner menu was good with 3 or 4 choices for each course. Generous helpings too. Our room was comfortable and had a nice en-suite bathroom with over the bath shower. We liked the various seating areas on the ground floor, so relaxing to sit there and admire all the surrounding scenery. A lovely place to stay.

My superior room was basic and the staff at dinner rude we ordered steak one medium rare and one well done and after my husband tipped sauce all over his steak we realised we were given the wrong ones the waitress said it’s not my fault it’s the chefs you can eat them or not but you have to pay for them and refused to redo them eventually we got one steak taken off then the other the next day and after seeing the manager 2 days he squashed the bill completely
