By the Sea Port Douglas

Wonderful location. Nice room and facilities (a little small, but big enough). Amazing set-up there re things to do and to use that makes the day go so much easier and reduces the need to pack things they offer for Family and Couples alike. Lovely views from most the upstairs rooms. Staff and totally helpful and always there keen to assist. They do/did the little things REALLY well. We will be back for sure.

The Hotel and staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. I was part of a Retreat that booked the Hotel for a number of days. Our first night was a Welcoming Dinner for the delegates. Our pre-chosen meal of fish was over an hour arriving and it was inedible as they were still frozen inside. We were then offered a dessert as an apology which again, was inedible. Very disappointing for a first impression of their culinary standards. Fortunately, all of the other meals taken in the Hotel's restaurant were lovely.

I was very happy with everything about this place. The location is perfect- very short walk to the beach and nature trail on one side, and downtown in the other direction. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was gorgeous and immaculate and quiet. I was so happy with it that rather than dine out, I usually ate on my balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean. The hotel has many recreational supplies available for free and there’s a washing machine and dryer available to guests ($3 each) which I used during my stay. I will definitely stay here when I return to Port Douglas again.

Our second year back in a row and loved the place so much we booked for July 2024! We chose a different apartment with street view - and was apartment was great, exceptionally clean, and quiet! We stayed for 12 days without our friends who stayed back in NZ, and we had an awesome relaxing and fun time. The location was a stones throw to 4Mile Beach and close to the shops, cafe's, restaurants, shops, and the Marina. They also have absolutely EVERYTHING you might need during a visit, including bikes, pool toys, over 1,000 DVDs, a huge book swap, beach wagons, filtered chilly water and ice, exercise equipment, and much more - all complementary! And the pool was great! But the true asset of By the Sea is the awesome staff - Elaine, Marieke, Cole and the team - you are the best, and make the stay a lot of fun!!! And yes - booked in for 2025 but in October ... count down has started already.

Fantastic place to stay. Have everything you need for beach to use for free. Excellent quality service, the girls booked all our trfs, tours with reputable local vendors. Couldn't recommend any higher. Walk out front the beautiful clean beach, or turn right for every type restaurant and pub you could want. I choose this place from recommendations and was the best decision. Excellent all round.

OK, this is NOT 5 star luxury...but I would trade all the trappings of a 5 start resort for the service, thoughtfulness, friendliness and special touches By the Sea offers. My only reservation in continuing this review is I don't want it to get so popular that next time I'm in Port Douglas (hopefully with my adult boy's families) we won't be able to get a room. From the first communication we received after booking and the regular emails warning of road closures / delays, restaurants they suggested, checking our room was exactly what we wanted and earthworks being done at the back of the unit (they even gave us a discount for any inconvenience - which there wasn't), the "girls" were amazing. This is hospitality as it should be, but rarely is. The room was spotless, with thoughtful touches and inclusions everywhere. A nice little patio out the back with a webber Q to cook on was awesome. Quality inclusions everywhere, and options for pod machine and other amenities, yours for no more than asking for them. The welcome was fantastic and the location at the quieter and "beach" end of Macrosson Street is the best of both worlds. Pool is heated, which was appreciated as weather was cooler than I had expected and the pool in the place we stayed in Cairns was too cold for my wife - and not somewhere I would linger long either. There is a lobby with plenty of beach towels (which you could take to the beach too), pool toys, inflatables, noodles etc. Its a nice little area. The resort is full of quirky additions. They offered eskys, ice, chairs and heaps of other stuff you could help yourself to and take to the beach which is literally only a few steps away. We even took a bike and rode it along 4 mile beach - all for free. They also had helmets to ride around town if you chose. Bed was comfortable and the room pretty quiet. Parking was tight, but very secure. But it was Marieke and the girls that elevate this place to the next level. Even if the room and facilities weren't as good as they are, I would still go back for the service...the quality of the furnishings and inclusions are just a bonus. Love your work "girls".

Excellent service, very clean, comfortable and fabulous location. My family and I stayed in the Jelly baby villa. It had absolutely everything you need in the house. We even borrowed gym equipment, chairs, boogie boards and a trolley to move it. There was excellent communication from the reception as to noisy council works nearby and checking in and out procedures. If we return to PD I’d stay here again.

3rd visit to By The Sea Port Douglas. Booked again for next year which I never do 🤭 staff exceptional/ apartment spotless/ everything you can ask for & that’s including all free stuff available, Location is so good minutes walk to the beach. All in all 10/10! Thank you girls 😁

Our stay at By the Sea was just the perfect place to enjoy Port Douglas. The girls were super friendly, helpful and passed on lots of local tips on what to do and see. We were even lucky enough to be offered an upgrade to a suite which was amazing, every little detail well thought out to make our stay perfect. The range of free equipment to use for the beach, the pool, a picnic or bike ride was brilliant! Literally everything is catered for, just turn up with your clothes they have everything else covered! Pretty much on the beach and just a short stroll to the main drag for brunch, lunch and dinner but far enough away from the crowds for peace and quiet too. A big 5 stars and a big thank you to the girls. Will definitely be back.
