The best "place" in Scotland
When we were traveling between Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye, we searched for the perfect spot to stay en route and found The Inn at Loch Tummel. What we didn't know was that it would turn out to be the perfect place in Scotland. Everything that we experienced at this inn was better than we could have anticipated. The exact perfect balance of charm and character of centuries past, while at the same time being completely contemporary, modern, and unpretentious. The food was exceptional and that is high praise since we had just had lunch the day before at The Kitchin, a Michelin-starred restaurant outside Edinburgh. The bar at the inn presented itself in the same fashion, very cool, charming with unbelievably attentive service. We had drinks at the bar and then walked outside the inn into a parklike setting that overlooks Loch Tummel with tables, umbrellas, and an extraordinarily beautiful small garden where the vegetables for the restaurant are harvested daily. But the single most extraordinary thing about this gem of an inn are the proprietors, Jade and April, along with their young son Selby, who were fun, hip, and wonderfully personable. They were incredibly accommodating as we arrived late due to a flat tire only to find a bottle of wine and a lovely fire in the fireplace waiting for us. On our next trip to Scotland we will make The Inn at Loch Tummel the center of our trip.
