"I booked a king-sized room, and both the space and the bed were quite large. Honestly, a standard-sized room probably would have been enough. The hotel has been recently renovated, so it still looks pretty new.
The location is listed as Chinatown, but the nearest tram stops are about a 6-minute walk away. Thankfully, Melbourne's city center is quite compact.
The room temperature can be adjusted freely. I'm not sure if there were disposable slippers – I've forgotten. We had two people staying, but they only provided one set of toothbrushes and amenities daily, so I was glad I'd brought my own. There's a small fridge with a complimentary carton of milk inside, but it didn't come with a straw.
Things that brought down the score:
One night, around 9 PM, the fire alarm went off. Everyone rushed downstairs, only to be told it was a false alarm. As we were halfway back up, it started ringing again, another false alarm.
And then there's the noise. The king rooms face the street, and the noise mainly came from modified cars driven by 'ghost riders' all night, and then various emergency vehicles starting from 6 or 7 AM. If you've ever been to Thailand, the constant roar of motorcycles on the street is exactly what it was like. I even took two videos so you could get a feel for it, and those weren't even the loudest moments, just the mildest sounds. It felt like I was sleeping on the street. I don't think the hotel needs renovation; what it really needs is soundproof windows, otherwise, it's not suitable for a comfortable stay."
