Decent hotel for Paramaribo but not exactly up to Marriott's standards. OK facilities, service could be better and very expensive price.

Overall it is a good place to stay except right now they have building works going on which they fail to tell you on their website. I had building noise even on a Sunday right above my room and the notices in reception only talked about Monday. On Monday the works lasted till 7pm so there was no relief from the noise. If you are someone who likes going to the gym - the gym here is not good enough. 2 treadmills and a noisy crosstrainer all in a glass box with the air con barely working. Depending on the time of day you go in it is not workable - no screens to keep the sun out. The staff and restaurants were great and this is one of the benefits of this hotel.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the service and treatment I have received at Courtyard by Marriott, both during my visit on December 24th, 2013, and more recently, in 2024. It’s disheartening to realize that despite the years that have passed, the same issues persist, with little to no improvement in service. Back in 2013, my family and I had an unpleasant experience on Christmas Eve. We made our reservation weeks in advance and followed up multiple times about a specific dish we wanted. However, our requests were either ignored or denied at the last minute. The food that night was subpar—tasteless chicken, undercooked duck, and a disappointing steak, especially for the price. The service was even worse. The waiter was inattentive, unprofessional, and essentially abandoned us during our meal. To make matters worse, our umbrella was taken, and when we asked about it, there was no explanation or replacement offered, leaving us soaked in the rain. I attempted to address these issues with the then-manager, Mr. Niels Stuedemann. He initially seemed sympathetic and assured us that the situation would be rectified. However, after a promise to follow up, we never heard from him again. When I later tried to correct a mistake with my email address, his response was dismissive, adding to our frustration. Hoping that this was a one-time issue, I decided to give Courtyard by Marriott another chance in 2024, bringing along six friends visiting from the USA. Unfortunately, it was a case of déjà vu. The same dismissive attitude and lack of customer care were evident, mirroring our experience from 2013. The service was once again poor, and I couldn’t help but question why such behavior remains so prevalent in Surinamese establishments. This experience is particularly disappointing because, over a decade later, nothing seems to have improved. I had hoped to show my friends the best of what Suriname has to offer, but instead, they were met with the same low standards and poor attitudes that plagued our visit all those years ago. It is deeply troubling that Courtyard by Marriott has not addressed these ongoing issues. This is not just about one or two bad meals; it’s about a persistent pattern of disregard for customers that reflects poorly on the entire establishment. I sincerely hope that upper management will finally take these concerns seriously and make the necessary changes to ensure that future customers do not have to endure the same disappointing experiences that I have encountered—twice. Sincerely,

Unfriendly front desk. Not customer focus. I requested early check in on Bonvoy app, and was confirmed. Front Desk clerk insisted that I have to wait from 11am to 3pm before I can check in. She said they have a room available, bit yet could not explain why my early check in request on Bonvoy was invalid. Unfriendly service.

Stayed 1 night 29 October for a reunion event. Paid with points. Front desk service was professional and friendly. Stayed on 5th floor and during daytime the temperature in the room and the hall of the 5th was hot. Suspect AC capacity was insufficient to cover the afternoon sun. In the evening temperature in room cooled to normality. Breakfast buffet was superb. Checked out at noon and at home discovered I left my iPhone charger in the room. Called them and front desk told me there was nothing the cleaning staff found. Went personally back in the evening and front desk mentioned again nothing was found. This is the reason for the low score of the experience.

I had a perfectly pleasant stay at this Courtyard. Nice, simple and modern room. Overall better than an average Courtyard in the U.S. The location won't work for everyone though - the hotel is a bit out of town. We had a rental car (from Hertz), so the location wasn't an issue. There's also Avis car rental next to the hotel, but I couldn't price it up through the Avis website so not sure if it's open (if it is, I'd take a taxi form the airport to the hotel and rent a car from there). More generally, we really liked Suriname - super friendly people, we generally felt safe, the food was delicious, prices weren't crazy. All of this in stark contrast to Guyana. It seems that most countries don't need a visa to enter, but you still need to pay the entry fee online. I read multiple reports saying that you can no longer do it on arrival at PBM or ORG airport - this wasn't true as a couple of passengers from my flight were paying the entry fee on arrival at ORG (September 2023). You also need a yellow fever vax certification - this was checked by the airline at check-in. Another hopefully helpful tip - Transguyana Airlines runs 3 flights a day between the small regional airport in Paramaribo (Zorg en Hoop - airport code ORG) and its equivalent in Georgetown (Ogle - airport code OGL). These are super convenient as the main international airport in both Georgetown and Paramaribo is an hour away from the city. Note that these flights were not coming up on Kayak or *******, but were easy to book through the airline's website. FWIW, there was also a flight from PBM to OGL which may be helpful for those arriving at the main airport in Paramaribo and connecting to Georgetown. The flight itself is on a small 12-seater (Cessna Caravan) which is fun on its own. I wish I had more time in Suriname - what a fascinating country!

Nice location, great, friendly staff. The hotel is nearby a ******, walking distance to downtown. The food is great, different restaurants and bars. The rooms are undergoing a well overdue renovation. Overall, great choice - once the rooms are renovated it will be even better.

Good service, very creative when it comes to the food. You have to try the Parmesan Cheesecake while you're there or the Matcha cheesecake from Sakura Nikkei. The trained staff is always friendly and attentive. Professional service, and relaxation vibes not far from the Suriname River. Visit the link in my bio for an in-depth review.
