The Falcon Inn

Lovely stay at the Falcon, comfy beds (nice and large!), nice breakfasts, great bathroom and a beautiful area to explore. The staff were the highlight - really attentive and thoughtful, from waiting staff to the cleaning team. Our evening meal was good, an interesting menu. Slightly overcooked salmon but otherwise delicious.

What makes this beautiful hotel outstanding besides its location, is the staff. Ollie and Dan helped me through the London hotel cancellation and cancellations of train and Tube and calls to passenger assistance, speaking on the phone for me as my hearing is impaired. They also immediately helped me with the problems I was having with the shower upstairs, with a smile and expertise. Dani, Amelie and Cameron rounded out the group with support and suggestions and goodwill. The full English breakfast was incredible and huge. Bed was very comfortable. Bus service to all the nearby little Cotswold towns was accessible from the bus stop right in front of the hotel. I would advise travelers that Painswick does not have a bank and only a very small minimart so those services have to be accessed at Stroud which is about 7 minutes away by bus and a delightful English town to visit, especially for Saturday Market.

The service at dinner was nonexistent. The food we would rate as fair. We would not recommend. There are better places in town to dine. They kept telling us after 45 minutes just 5 more minutes, several times.The restaurant was very nice decor.

We visited the Falcon for dinner midweek and had a lovely evening. They were accommodating with our requests and the food was fantastic, the pigeon wellington and the pork chop were highlights and the 2 vegetarians in our group had interesting and very tasty options too. The selection of cheeses was a real plus for us too, all being cheese lovers. Thank you

It was bitterly cold and not a day for sightseeing so we thought - coffee. But I could only see a hotel and frankly I am never impressed by hotel or restaurant coffee. We were a little shy, as all we wanted was a cup of coffee. But WOW! A terrific, warm and happy welcome and the best coffee we have had "out", for a very long time. So, if the coffee is that good, next time we will eat

Enjoyed a very pleasant evening here with friends - in the heart of the lovely Cotswold village of Painswick. Friendly service, decent gastro pub food. Not the cheapest but everything was tasty and nicely presented. I didn’t have a starter but the bread and different flavoured butters were a particular highlight.

Very disappointing. My friends and I have been to this lovely Cotswold Inn many times and enjoyed it. However, when we visited recently at lunchtime we were not so impressed. For some reason we were seated in the rather dark back room, rather than the bright front room. I have dietary requirements which have always been catered for before. I feel there may have been a change of ownership? The atmosphere was not the same. Nowhere near as welcoming. We were given the a la carte menu and no lunch menu. As we had previously enjoyed the lighter and cheaper options on the Lunch menu that is what we wanted. We were given the lunch menu very dismissively, there are some sandwiches on there, was the comment. When I looked at both menus there was very little I could or wanted to eat. I was not prepared to spend £24 on a main course for lunch! When my friends had all ordered I had to have the "conversation" about what I can and cant eat. Honestly, I was shocked at the lack of help and understanding of the menu and lack of willingness to co-operate and see what I could eat! Truly shocked. It has been many years since I experienced such lack of care in this situation. I ended up "choosing" a starter of hummus, ribbons of courgettes and asked them to switch out the flatbread for gf bread. To say it was underwhelming was an understatement. I drank water only and that cost me £12! My friends were not impressed with what they had and we have collectively decided we shall not be visiting this establishment again. A shame because it is a lovely building. There was one lovely waiter there but unfortunately he did not take my order, I feel if he had I might have had a different experience.

Good quality food however a 10% service charge for a table for 2 is not acceptable. I did get it refunded after complaining. Also, on booking, as a local resident, I was assured of a special experience as it was my husband’s birthday, the waitress was not aware even though it was supposedly highlighted on our booking, she offered a complimentary drink as we were leaving. The wine is very expensive. £14 a glass. Not impressed and very disappointed as it is a local venue as I’m a Painswick resident. Not going to rush back.

From the initial warm welcome to our departure, the staff and especially Dan, the manger, were super friendly. Dan had lots of knowledge on the wines, including the Balfour Estate wines. Dinner was good, perhaps a steak choice would have been good to have.Plenty of fish dishes to choose from. Decent wine list too. Room was a good size with a large bed. Costs were a little on the high side. Could do with adding sky channels to the tv. Breakfast had a good choice. Worth a visit.
