This was a great hotel to stay at the staff were friendly and super helpful. Beautiful views and the perfect location. The only downside was that the wifi did not work, we called the front desk which then transferred our call to an IT department who were not much help we spent our stay without a wifi, not the greatest as a person visiting for the first time especially if you have online business meetings. Everything else was amazing I traveled with a friend and we had a great time as this location has many great places for good food. Will definitely book here again.

This should be the most satisfying hotel I stayed in during this trip. The facilities, environment, location and sea view of the room are all amazing. The hotel's breakfast is not a buffet, you have to order it yourself, which is very good. You can choose how much you want to spend. The breakfast is very delicious and the service is very thoughtful. It was a bit cold in the morning, so we sat on the terrace. The waiter turned on the big warm light for us. With the sea breeze and the sea view, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with our beloved family. I really hope time will stay at this beautiful moment.

This hotel used to be amazing. In the past, I would have paid the premium cost for the service, location, and experience. Now, I just can't say that anymore. I have stayed at the Portola hotel a number of times and the last few times, it just hasn't been that great, yet they still charge the same premium price The hotel is in a great location, which is still a draw, but the experience has become average. I love going to Monterey and this hotel was a reason I would want to come back, but now I find myself looking elsewhere. Portola just doesn't meet the expectations they put forward for the premium price they charge. So if you get a good price on that harbor view room, I would say go for it. Note, you may end up with a partial view looking at the roof of a building across the way, with a partial view of the water. But I would stay here again if the price was right. But if prices are the same as some of the other waterfront hotels, I will likely book elsewhere.

If you’re looking for a solid place to crash when you’re in Monterey, you can’t beat this hotel. The rooms are simple yet updated. The service is great and you can’t beat the price. The room has always been clean and it’s in a great location. The only downside is no breakfast (because of covid) and there aren’t many amenities. It exceeds any expectations compared to the price though!

Our vacation flights to Chicago were canceled due to weather conditions and we were unhappy. We decided to have a getaway to Monterey and Carmel. We were lucky to make a last minute booking by booking.com at Travelodge. The booking was easy, price was incredibly reasonable and service was excellent. The staff were not only friendly and welcoming, but also made accommodations for my physical disability. We enjoyed our trip and Will definitely go back.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife while on vacation. Frequent fliers of Embassy Suites, and this location is exactly on par with what you'd expect from the brand. The location of this hotel is fine, with close proximity to a variety of restaurants, a gas station, easy to get to the wharf area in Monterey. We stayed in a standard king room, and it is the typical 2-room suite layout in most Embassy locations. The room as clean, and the bed was comfortable. The shower worked great the first night, but the second night it did not get very hot. It was late, so we did not bother trying the front desk about it. Both TV's in the room were equipped with a Chromecast that had a web portal you could sync a device to. Very nifty being able to cast from our phones, something every hotel should adopt! The breakfast was top notch for a complimentary buffet. Eggs/omelets cooked to order, a variety of other hot and cold breakfast items, juice/coffee/soda, baked goods etc. The happy hour at night (included in the room rate!) was great, and had 2 specialty drinks, beer, wine, and well liquor available. The drinks are very standard, but they are absolutely free! There are also light snacks available. We did not use the pool or gym, though both looked clean. The pool is indoors but did not appear to be heated. One thing to note: parking fee is $20, and there is also a resort fee of $15/night that is charged. The resort fee ”includes” wifi, bike rental, and a $15/credit for the gift shop or restaurant. We figured either way you're paying $15 per day extra, so we used $15 at the gift shop both days for snacks & coffee. There is a Starbucks inside the gift shop which this applies to!

The location is OK, there are more fast food restaurants nearby. The interior decoration of the room is much better than most motels. The biggest problem is that wifi is very very difficult to use, the delay is very long, and friends who want to play in the night carefully consider it.

Good value, especially considering how expensive the area is. We stayed at one other hotel north of this one and for an extra $150 bucks it wasn’t that much better. Rooms are a little small but adequate. Having AC isn’t always necessary but when you need it, you need it! It’s close to everything including a great stretch of beach. That’s the only drawback IMO. Rick, the manager represents the brand well!

The moment I walked into this Holiday Inn Express, Tony at the front desk set the tone for our visit....horrible. I walked in very friendly. Gave him my last name for check in and he immediately told me the CC I had reserved with didn't go through and he was about to cancel my reservation. He said I was lucky I walked in when I did otherwise he was about to cancel us. So much for a nice warm welcome & thank you for choosing our hotel...not. I told him that the CC I had used to book had been stolen and I put a different CC with my app. He was rude and brushed me off. Our room was large but dated. The hide-a-bed was very uncomfortable for my teen, all coils & uncomfortable. The 2 queen beds were ok but squeeky. The room wasn't super clean. The shower curtain was broken and when we used the shower the handle to turn water to shower mode came off. Our in room phone did not work. I sent my son down to the lobby to get some extra sheets & pillows for the hide-a-bed, Tony only gave him 2 blankets. He said they didn't have any more pillows or sheets. Whaaaat??? You don't have extra sheets & pillows??? My husband then went down & asked Tony for the sheets & pillows & Tony said he would be up with some. 30 minutes later he arrived. Breakfast was horrible. Coffee grounds in our coffee. Very limited menu. Attendant to serve us was no where to be found, had to ask front desk for help. We have been traveling all week for our kids Spring break and staying in various hotels along the central coast of California and this hotel has been the worst. Do not book a room here. Very disappointing.

Outstanding
This is a wonderful , beautiful, amazing bed and breakfast! Where do i start? Location is incredible! Quick walk to Cannery Row or into town in Pacific Grove or to Lovers Point. It’s directly across the street from the ocean so the views are magnificent! The bike pathq is directly across the street and the hotel will provide you free of charge bikes. My husband and so went on an absolutely gorgeous 8 mile ride along the coast. Amazing! The main house: from the outside it’s a traditional looking home but inside the decorating was modern beach and stunning!!! It’s comfy yet fashionable! And the views are amazing! There are cookies all day , wine and cheese in the afternoon and a yummy breakfast each morning. We stayed in the back building and had an incredible suite with blocked views of the ocean. We had a fireplace , large sitting area, large bathroom with tub and separate shower and a king bed. The room was decorated beautifully. Our fireplace had some issues but they sent someone to fix it and also gave us a pretty significant credit (before we even had to ask) for our difficulty. The staff are kind and helpful. 5 stars all the way! We will be back!!!
GGuest UserStayed 2 nights in August ‘22 as part of a road trip from San Francisco to Cambria. Pacific Grove itself is lovely & the Sunset Inn didn’t disappoint! You may be lucky to see the deer walk through the neighbourhood. We were allocated the Happy Seagull room, very clean & adequate for our needs, always found a parking spot. Room included coffee maker, full size fridge & microwave. Breakfast is included in room rate, basic, but no complaints, the donuts were lovely! The best drinks machine I’ve seen for choice is situated in office & is available at any time, Rishi will help you & give suggestions on what’s good! Rishi the Manager greets you on arrival, he’s a character & loves a chat! He’s so passionate about the property & wants his guests to be comfortable & have the best experience. Thank you for recommending the Indian restaurant in Monterey, hopefully you may remember us! Would definitely recommend this property for a Highway 1 stop off as we did & would stay here again, thanks Rishi, maybe see you again!
My wife and I planned a last minute trip to Monterey. I read a lot of the reviews for Deer Haven Inn and dismissed the bad ones and gave it a try and we are glad we did. We reserved the king bed with fireplace The fire place was simple and a nice touch to the room The bathroom was huge with 2 shower heads. The front desk was very pleasant and the price was extremely reasonable 10 minutes from The Monterey Bay Aquarium and the 17 mile drive Very close to Carmel. You are 5-10 minutes from food and a Safeway market Best part, only an 8 minute walk to the beach Pure white sand and a beautiful area. You won’t be disappointed It’s not a huge room, but I’m not one to hang out in my room all day. We will stay here again on our next visit It’s simple, affordable and in the middle of everything you need to have fun and a great vacation Small tip, if your going to the aquarium, take an Uber and save time on finding parking It’s only about $13 each way
GGuest UserThe location is ideal a short walk to the beach and ocean trails. could hear the waves from our room. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and as described, we stayed in a queen bungalow. The staff was very professional, helpful, made us feel welcome and felt that they really cared about our needs and comfort, I look forward to coming back again and making this our go to stay in Pacific Grove. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Pacific Gardens Inn is comfortable and convenient! Hospitable hosts who aim to please, the Pacific Gardens Inn is comfortable and convenient!. The Inn has comfortable rooms, and a nice breakfast! Very close to the Asilomar Conference Center. Highly recommend for ! EV charging on property. I will return again!
LLDL498The hotel is a resort-style hotel, so the internal environment is better. The hotel also offers a very simple American breakfast that can be eaten. Free parking.
EerellyHealth is far worse than the picture, but the hotel service is good, there is a swimming pool and roasting fire outside, the waiter will smoke with you, staying for a long time is a bit warm, although it still feels good
SsavannajswYikes. Where do I begin? I’d like to think that my poor experience at this lodge must be karma against me for choosing to travel during the pandemic. Perhaps I should have known better. Let’s start with the good. 1. The check-in receptionist is incredibly friendly. 2. Location, location. A hop and a skip away from the beach. 7 minutes from downtown Monterey. You can’t beat that. But sadly that seems to be the only thing this place has going for it. The doors do NOT lock. I mean really. We tried. They only lock from the inside when you’re in the room. Talk about safe right? And to make matters worse, while we stayed there, there was a room throwing a F****NG PARTY near us..I kid you not. They started partying around 9 PM and were banging things around and jumping, yelling, making thud sounds against the walls and floors ALL night long. To me, They sounded to be college aged...I’m 99% certain they did it to take advantage of the fact that there was NO front desk staff at night due to COVID!! This means We had no one to complain to due to their loud noise which made staying here a literal nightmare. And to think, my family is mostly grown. I can’t imagine what kind of hell it would have been to stay here with a baby or children! When we called front desk to report them, there was no one to receive the complaint. It’s currently after midnight as I type this and they are still raging on while we are exhausted and desperate for rest. Literally have had better nights sleep at a motel 6. Please avoid this place at all costs. I don’t care how good of a deal is advertised on t*****z** or G*****n. It’s not worth it to stay at a place where there’s no 24/7 staff to ensure the safety/peace of their guests
GGuest UserBecause Carmel's accommodation options are too expensive, I want to say that I chose the lighthouse in the next town. Unexpectedly great! The room looks much bigger than the photos and the facilities are very thoughtful and complete. The fireplace is really nice and warm! !! 17 days in the United States, this is the best and favorite accommodation ~ In addition to the buffet, there is another menu to choose from (there is no extra charge). Many choices are delicious. Most of the other guests are Americans who come for vacation. It's near the sea, and there are deer nearby, suitable for watching the sunset ~~
GGuest UserThis hotel is under a major remodel of many rooms. And after speaking to the General Contractor this construction will be going on for quite some time. Our stay was horrible. Came down from the busy Bay Area for a few days of peace and quiet. However, ended up with days filled with air compressors, nail guns and general construction noise on a daily basis from 9 to 5. Were told that their would be no construction on the weekend. Total lie Saturday was another full-blown work week.. At check in that assigned us a room right next to one of the rooms under major Constuction. At the very least they could have blocked out rooms adjacent to ones under remodel. Back to the office asking for an explanation as to why they would treat their quests this way. No reply was forthcoming. The best word I can muster up is simple greed on the part of Clarion. Ok that's enough out of me. Just wanted to let prospective quests what was ahead of them. With so many choices in Pacific Grove,Carmal, and Monterey hotel wise and price wise, it's better to find a different property to stay at.
