Our family of 4 needed a hotel near the airport between connecting flights so our expectation was not high. We always had good experience with other Hampton Inns so this was just an easy choice, assuming a known quality hotel and also close to the airport. The Good about this hotel - 1. close to airport 2. free shuttle (details to follow) 3. has a couple restaurants just across from the parking lot if you don't want to venture out too far 4. check-in was quick The Bad - 1. Free shuttle only starts at 6am so if you need to catch an early flight you'll need to find a taxi. In our case, we had to pre-book a taxi the night before because we needed to get to the airport at 4:30am. 2. The hotel shuttle was just a plain white van with no signs indicating it's for Hampton Inn. Driver was not in any kind of uniform and when I knocked on his window trying to inquire, he came out and yelled 'What's going on'. Well not exactly what I expect a hotel shuttle driver to identify himself that way. When I asked if he's from Hampton Inn the answer was yes. But in retrospect any random guy can give me the same answer and we just kinda need to trust that driver that he's a legitimate Hampton Inn shuttle driver. The whole short trip to the hotel we were wondering if we would end up getting mugged. Just not a good feeling and I think the hotel can handle this a lot better, how hard is it to give this driver an uniform with a hampton inn logo, or print a hampton inn logo on a piece of paper and put it on the dashboard. At least something to make your shuttle and driver look a little bit more legitimate and make your guests feel a little bit safer. 3. As mentioned earlier we pre-booked a taxi to pick us up at 4:15am, turns out the front desk forgot to book it for us. When we got down to the lobby and looked for the taxi, that's when the front desk guy realized he forgot about it. So we waited for another 10-12 mins for the taxi to come. (taxi fare from hotel to airport was less than $20) 4. Not all electric outlets are working, in our room the one attached to the side table lamp didn't seem to work. Had to search high and low to have enough outlets to charge 4 phones and 4 apple watches. The Very Bad - The mattress was the absolute worse, I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn that have mattresses that dip down about 2 inches and with no support whatsoever. I'm not a big person, but my husband is so the whole night I was sinking and rolling to my husband's side. All I needed was a few hours of sleep between flights and I could not get that because of the mattress. Tossing and turning the whole night and could not find a good position. My back was hurting the next day like I was sleeping on an absolute garbage mattress the night before. We did not use the free breakfast, coffee wasn't ready during our stay, no other amenities were used. The poor rating is given based on the fact that everything we needed for a short stay in this hotel fell far sho

We just stayed for 1 night, the room was clean and comfortable. 25$ for overnight parking was a bit much I felt. The location is not the best for a Saturday/Sunday since it is an office area and almost everything around in walking distance is closed, just Tim Hortons and Startbucks is open.

Exceeded expectations, I didn't expect the room to be so well designed and of high quality.
It’s bigger and newer than a star hotel room, and it’s so beautiful. My family is very satisfied and will book here again next time!

A very well-run hostel in an excellent location for anyone interested in exploring downtown Ottawa. The staff were all friendly, and I enjoyed the tour in the morning. I stayed for one night in a women only dorm. The wifi was good. The bed was very comfy. The bathroom was very nice. The dining area had a nice little lounge section with a few board games. They're currently part way through renovations, so if I need to stay a night or two in Ottawa again I might try out sleeping in one of the cells!

Just across the Canadian History Museum, the riverside, location is OK. But there are no convenient restaurants to eat around, there are Italian and Thai dishes. The twin rooms in North America are 1.5m large beds, sleep enough, standard old-fashioned hotels, facilities are a bit old, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast and parking are available for a fee. Parking is expensive. No slippers, no teeth

I have not been to Ottawa before, so I relied on reviews of places within this price range and a good location. As to the location, it is good, central to all of the iconic sites in Ottawa and the Byward market itself. The staff at the Byward Blue Inn is very accommodating . The housekeepers do a terrific job every day, including mopping the floors. So why only three green dots? The place needs a major overhaul. As I write this I am sitting next to a free standing air conditioner, the kind with a hose through the wall. Yes, it cools the room but it is loud. I required earplugs to fall asleep. They have a quiet in-wall unit in the lobby, why not the rooms? The room furnishings are one step above dorm room, two steps below Ikea. There is a six foot or so wood table with two regular chairs and a well-worn desk chair and a bed, and that is it. There are in-room conveniences, like a drip coffee maker, a kettle and a microwave in the room, along with dishes and flatware. The bed is comfortable enough. Towels are basic, but one is only given washcloths and bath towels, no hand towels. The property is well cleaned, but maintenance could be better, the bathroom sink and tub had chips in the finish. Breakfast if offered daily, the problem is, it never changes. Scrambled eggs, some breakfast meat, potatoes, and little egg and cheese sandwiches. I stayed at the Byward Blue for a whole week, that breakfast got boring after three days. There also was yogurt, fruit, cereal and more, so quantity wasn't an issue. I give the place 5 green dots for effort with a solid staff that is very helpful and accommodating, but that doesn't make up for everything else. One last thing, if you want hi-speed wifi, go somewhere else.

I rarely stay in hotels however I came to Ottawa to celebrate a kilometerstone (milestone for Americans ;-) birthday and decided to splurge a little. I was able to talk a friend into coming with me. I first saw this hotel on TripAdvisor, went to their own website and found I could book 4 nights for $119/nt. I spent about an hour looking around some of the big Internet travel sites and found the exact room promoted on one of them for $89! I called the hotel and asked if they price matched. After about 10min of them looking online to find the promo I was looking at, the shift supervisor approved the match! I had to agree to pay for all 4 nights whether I used them or not. I didn't care because I was coming! The location is GREAT, next to TransCanada/417 highway. That was very convenient as I had to drive to Carp the next morning and that was the highway I used. I was on that expressway 2 minutes after leaving the hotel! Check in was fast and efficient. The person checking me in was confused when I told her I was on a $89 promo, she had not heard about it but eventually found some notes on my reservation in the computer. Even though there was free parking, I wanted to leave the car at the hotel most days and take public transit downtown. I had heard even with the government shut down, parking was scarce and expensive in the city center. On check in I happened to ask how close a bus stop was to take us downtown as I wanted to do the double deck Grayline tour on Sunday and Monday. The desk clerk said I didn't need to take the city bus as the double deck bus picked up their guests every morning at 9am at the hotel! BONUS! I'm glad I asked. Our room was on the fourth floor and included two very comfortable Queen beds with 7” mattresses and fluffy comforters, a very nice bathroom, 40” LCD TV, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. They also had WiFi that worked great! There was only one ceramic cup and one plastic cup for the first night, we would have liked two ceramic cups but it was too late to call down and ask. Both my friend and I noted how quiet the surroundings were. Almost the entire floor had booked rooms for two nights but we didn't hear much noise. Also, we were on the back side of the hotel not facing the street or highway so that may have contributed to it. If I were to return, I would ask for a first floor room on the same side of the hotel as each had direct access to the parking lot. Although the room was very clean and comfortable, there were not enough electrical plugs and the only available one to plug in my cell phone and computer was so worn out that the cables would not stay in the plug. I always bring extra cables, I had a long extension that ran from near the head of my bed to the table at the other end of the room. Without it, I would not have been able to charge my devices. One thing that would help is a USB hub of some sort on the night table - maybe a hotel lamp with USB hub built in. That would hav

GGuest UserVery good choice for family travel, the price is not high, we booked a room type with breakfast, a big bed room + a sofa bed, the room is clean and tidy, the overall experience is not bad.
KKseniia KoshevaiaOur stay at Sonder Rideau left us with mixed feelings. On the positive side, the hotel's proximity to historical sites made it convenient for our travel plans. However, the absence of on-site restaurants was a significant downside, especially for those looking for a seamless dining experience.
The cleanliness and overall atmosphere of the hotel didn't meet our expectations. We found ourselves missing the comfort and satisfaction that a well-maintained environment can provide during a trip. It's crucial for prospective guests to consider these aspects when choosing accommodations.
In summary, while Sonder Rideau offers a location ideal for history enthusiasts, the lack of dining options and the subpar cleanliness and atmosphere may leave some travelers wanting more from their stay.
GGuest UserStayed at the Novotel for a week in early Feb 2023 while attending a conference at the nearby Westin. I booked for a really low rate through hotwire. After a pleasant check in I was excited to come into a very large on the 8th floor with a separate seating area and a very large TV. Room was pretty clean although when packing up before check-in I found some items under the bed that did not belong to me. Location was perfect, right across from the Rideau Centre and the Westin/Conference Centre and within a short walk to the Parliament Buildings, Sparks Street and Byward Market. My only compliant is the walls must be paper thin as I could hear the ding of the elevator and conversations in the hall from my room. I was also there a four hour during a power outage in the evening. I assume the outage was unscheduled but there was a lot of confusion and no one at the front desk when it occurred. The hotel shares a building with a DND office which made it confusing leaving the building by the stairs as the stairway lead to a entrance that read ”DND property alarm will sound”, it took awhile to figure out how to exit by the stairs.
AAlicia York-BirdI loved this hotel! A little off the beaten path, but worth it due to good pricing and proximity to Tanger Outlets and the highway.
I've visited twice now and will be sure to book again when needed.
Pros: Rooms are a very decent size, and the hotel just opened recently as of this review, so everything is gleaming clean and new.
The beds are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are lovely.
Cons: The TV could be a little larger, and I'm sad that despite marketing materials to the contrary, we weren't able to connect the TV through my YouTube account as I have been able to do at other hotels, but it was a small disappointment compared to the pros.
My largest concern is how quickly the right-hand elevator door closes without warning; it bashed me a good one as I was walking in , and while I can take it.and brush that off, had that been a small child they could have been seriously hurt. Please get that checked out.
In summary, I will recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a clean, quiet, recently priced place to stay while visiting Kanata 😁
GGuest UserThe hotel is well situated in Bells Corners, with numerous amenities within walking distance. Due to Covid, proof of vaccination was required and a room key was required to enter the building. I had trouble finding an ice machine that worked. Room was fine. Free parking and breakfast...but the breakfast was pretty awful. Would return if the price is right, otherwise we'll stay at the Hyatt.
GGuest UserThe Fairfield Inn was as good as you could expect for a lower-priced hotel near hockey venues. We stayed for several nights for a kid's hockey tournament. The good: Staff. While fairly short staffed (it seems that the night we checked in, there was literally one staff member who checked in, got cots, made any room changes, etc.) the staff was super pleasant and helpful. The manager even gave our group of players and parents complimentary access to a boardroom so we could have meals together and get out of our rooms a bit. So a BIG thank you to that wonderful person. Location. Easy access to ice rinks, the Senators arena, and lots of shopping and restaurant options. Not close to downtown in any way, however, so if you're there to ”see” Ottawa, this isn't the place for you. The good-enough: The rooms are fine. Large enough for our hockey family of four, but no door separating the bedroom from the rest of the room. Handy to have a fridge and microwave. Beds are comfortable enough and the rooms are generally soundproof enough. For this kind of trip, the hotel was adequate. Breakfast was fine. Lots of carbs, and it seemed like the staff were trying to throttle how much people ate by putting out refills in very small ”waves” (like, refilling the muffin basket with... 4 muffins). I would suggest making your way there early and with lots of time before departure if you know there are lots of families in the hotel, because the good stuff goes fast and isn't replenished quickly. The bad: Don't, for any reason, attempt to use a cot as an additional bed for your trip. It was basically a set of springs wrapped in a sheet (zero actual mattress padding) - no one in our group would even think about sleeping on it. We slept on the couch cushions instead (ick) and still were charged the $15 extra bed fee. The extra bedding wasn't in very good shape, also (major ick). Bring an air mattress and your own sheets if you need a bed outside of the pullout and other bed.
CClaude BoivinEasy access parking, ample parking space. The reception staff very welcoming and smiling, clear explanation, a room superior to our reservation. Small welcome gift. Spacious room, extremely clean. Welcoming, comfortable and cozy hotel, fast elevator. I am very picky about my comfort, I felt at home immediately. During my next visit to this beautiful region, you are my only choice. Thank you for the quality of service and hospitality.
GGuest UserAs always, Best Western is my go to place to stay. Friendly staff made sure or two day experience was great. The Hotel was close to family and city. Just minutes from downtown museums or office. Only 15 minutes to the Defennbunker Bunker Museum. So many things to do that are close. Of course the Thanksgiving Dinner at my sisters was the best attraction. Thanks for a great sleep. Will see you again.
GGuest UserThe hotel and service were great. The check-in receptionist was very friendly, helpful and efficient. I also had an opportunity to meet a couple of the cleaning/service staff in the hall and they were so friendly and nice. These two young guys had a great attitude. It couldn't help but brighten your day. Our room was very clean and modern. Nice furniture and bedding. All in all this was a great pick for our mini vacation in Ottawa.
