"The hotel is located in Tsugaike Plateau. The room was clean and tidy. We stayed for two nights in a row. The breakfast and dinner were different on both days. Ski equipment can be stored in the hotel's dungeon. After putting on the dungeon, you can walk directly from the dungeon to the ski slopes, which is very convenient. ."

"I stayed here for two nights during the Obon holiday. The children in the next room and the owner's children were playing with me, which was very heartwarming. I usually don't eat white rice because I'm on a low-carb diet, but this was so delicious that I had seconds. The ropeway to Tsugaike Nature Park is nearby, so I was able to arrive early and take a walk in the morning, which was great. They recommended wines and I was able to choose from them, which was delicious."

"The hotel has free parking, no need to pay for parking. It is very convenient to go anywhere. The room is very spacious, clean, and the price is not expensive compared to other hotels in the Hakuba area. It is convenient to travel near the ski slopes. You can wake up early to go skiing or snowboarding. It takes less than five minutes to drive there. I highly recommend it."

"It is right next to the Mei Chi Plateau ski resort, you can ski in and out, the room is spacious, the bedding is comfortable, and the first floor is dedicated to storing ski equipment. You can order simple meals in the restaurant, and there is a small soup for you to soak in."

"The only heater in the room was too noisy. Without it, most of the room was quite cold, although it was clean. The Wi-Fi became incredibly slow at night. Dinner was okay, with a variety of options but average quality. Breakfast was very basic. The rice was bad, soggy and mushy. It was generally below the standard of a street-side eatery."

"The hospitality provided by the owners (Aya-san and her husband and son) is incredible. So friendly, helpful, courteous and prompt. The way this place is run is faultless & I cannot recommend Espoir Misawa highly enough. Aya-san herself picked us up from the bus stop and also dropped us off at the end of our stay. Her English is good enough despite her thinking its not so great. Any questions we had were answered with respect, accuracy, and friendliness. It was just so wonderful staying here knowing our comfort is at the forefront of their mind. They have a relaxing lounge in the foyer playing soothing jazz and when I mentioned I'm a jazz musician myself to Aya-san's husband...well! Out came the good stuff and he even swapped the piped Bose speakers to floorstanding speakers which were amazing quality. Espoir Misawa is one of the few places in Tsugaike that have certified onsens. Other accommodations state they have public baths but be warned - that might just be tap water. Here, there are certificates framed on the walls (probably a legal requirement?) stating the date inspected, temp, chemical/mineral makeup et al. The genuine ski in/out door was fantastic. It really is ski in, ski out. Just a quick few metres down to the lifts or gondola. Ice cold Asahi beer from the vending machine for only 350 yen! Awesome! I really don't want to be critical when the hospitality was just well beyond expectations but here goes. 1. The mattresses were quite hard and old. New, pillow-top mattresses would go a long way towards making the rooms (at least, the western rooms) more comfortable. 2. The towels provided were an odd fabric - I think microfibre which were utterly non-absorbent. Towels have 1 job - to dry. But they didn't. Also they had been washed in a decent dose of fabric softener which might've helped to repel moisture and also gave the room a smell of the fabric softener. Some might like it, some might not. 3. There was no hanging space for said towels. There is a small hanging rail in the room but the length of this could easily be tripled. 4. The room was very hot. As soon as we entered we immediately asked how to turn off the heater. It remained off for our entire stay and even at night we kept the window open a few inches as it was still too hot. This is winter mind you! 5. Not important but it would be a nice gesture to provide a yukata for popping down to the onsens. All in all, a really fantastic stay and many thanks to Aya-san and her family for such warm hospitality. We'd come back again if points 1 & 2 above were addressed."

Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba ★★★
"Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba was love at first sight! The building's architecture and design, combined with the surrounding mountain views and snow, are just perfect. It's beautiful now, but I can only imagine how stunning it would be with fresh, deep snow. 😚😊 - The hotel is located right on the Cortina ski slope, offering true ski-in/ski-out access. They also have rental equipment and lockers available. - There's a kids' zone and both indoor/outdoor onsen (additional charge, tattoos allowed). - The breakfast buffet includes mentaiko (my personal favorite! 😄😚) and the dinner buffet has amazing sushi 🍣. Overall, there's a wide variety at the buffet, and they're punctual about closing. 😄 - For lunch, you can order meals from a vending machine-style system. - The room was spacious, with two single beds and three futon sets. ☃️"

"I've been here for three years in a row. The reason I come every year is the food!!! The homemade rice is superb!!! And you can have as many refills as you want! The side dishes are also carefully prepared one by one, which makes me feel happy. Also, the place is well-cleaned, which makes me feel very comfortable. The view from the room is also amazing! Right in front of the Bell Hill slope! And just a short walk from the gondola! The location is great, so I have nothing to say. I came during Golden Week, so it was nice to take a walk through the fields to Bell Hill in the evening. I'll be back next year!"

"Small hotel, but clean and considerate service! Communication is in Japanese and English first, but you can communicate through translation software. There is a girl from Vietnam in the restaurant who can speak simple Chinese. She told me that she learned it by watching movies. So amazing👍. There are buses that shuttle between several cities at the entrance of the hotel, but I didn’t try it this time. I hope I can take the bus next time. Because of the hotel’s warm service, I took the initiative to write a thank-you letter to the hotel manager, I hope I can understand it. But they must understand the three Chinese characters for "thank-you letter"! I may continue to choose this hotel when I come to ski next year!"

Hotel Sunny Valley ★★
"I stayed for two nights, Friday and Saturday, with my snowboarding friends. Considering the recent rise in prices and fuel costs, this hotel offered good value for money. The clientele seemed to consist mostly of students and families, giving it a lively atmosphere. However, perhaps because it's a reinforced concrete building, we weren't bothered by noises or voices from the next room or the hallway. There's a shop next to the front desk that mainly sells souvenirs, and you can buy things there even if you're not a guest. Tsugaike doesn't have a large shop like a ski center (there's a shop at the gondola station, though), so it's convenient to buy souvenirs here. There's also a cafe space in front of the front desk, and since coffee isn't included with meals (neither breakfast nor dinner), you can get some here if you want some. Apparently, the paper cups you take back to your room are a bit large. You can charge the cost to your room and settle the bill all at once at checkout. The drying room is spacious, but there might not be enough racks for the number of guests. There's a simple men's changing room attached to it, separated only by a curtain. The women's changing room was separate and located at the end of the second floor of the hotel. Be aware that some lockers can be locked while others cannot. I appreciated that the entrance and exit were automatic doors. The men's large bath had seven showerheads and was large enough for 7 or 8 people if they didn't stretch their legs out. Bathing hours were from 3 PM to 10 PM and 6 AM to 8 AM. They even provided lotion and other amenities, which was surprisingly thoughtful. Meals were served in the large dining hall, with assigned seating for each room number. The food was prepared at the right time, with hot dishes served hot and cold dishes served cold. Everything I ate was delicious and never tasted like it had been prepared in advance and then cooled down. There were many dishes, with each person having a small hot pot, another main dish, and appetizers and side dishes, all seasoned to go well with rice. You can get refills of rice, but the bowls are small, so I recommend asking for a large portion if you're a male student. Apparently, there used to be a lift on the course right in front of the hotel, but it has been discontinued. In the mornings, hotel staff will take you to the Bell-Ringing Hill slope and the gondola station at any time. If there is snow, you can also ski back to the front of the hotel. In addition, they will pick you up about four times in the evening at scheduled times, and they will also pick you up outside of the scheduled times if you call and ask."

Hakuba Tsugaike Ski Slope Side Espoir Misawa ★★★
"Our second stay at Espoir Misawa (see earlier review). Hospitality has not changed and remains as fabulous and friendly as it ever was. Clean rooms, just the same as last time in fact the whole place is just like our last stay. Such a handy place to ski in-out and not overly priced. Beds were still incredibly hard and this caused discomfort in the morning and we brought our own proper towels. Whilst the decor throughout is dated and old, the owners keep it well maintained and clean. If only they had softer beds this place would score 5 points easily."
