The truth - Acropolis hotel We stayed at this hotel recently - what a big mistake! The “standard” room we booked was tiny, you could not stand up when you got out of bed, the ceiling is literally 1m above floor height! (See pic) You literally have to get on your hands knees to get into bed. There are no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms, there is a room next to the reception where you can get a drink but this room was never open. NO AIR-CONDITIONING the room was like an oven. This so called hotel does not even serve lunch or dinner! If you like to listen to tyres screeching all day and evening then stay here, there is a karting track right next door and the noise from this place is constant and deafening! I feel this so called hotel is in financial difficulty, there are unfinished rooms and rooms full of tired dirty furniture. The staff on reception are in need of training, they have developed a blame culture thus every problem is always someone else’s fault. There is a very obvious and unhealthy power struggle going on between reception staff, a woman we called Cruella for obvious reasons seems to be the bad apple here. As an HR Director this is where I would start if this hotel is to survive.

I stayed at Hotel Astoria with my family in August 2022. This is one of the priciest hotels in De Haan which itself is an expensive city. To start with the hotel does not have a step-free entrance, quite shocking in this day and age so if you are travelling with lots of luggage, have a family with a push-chair (like us) or a wheel-chair user rule out staying here straight away. There are about ten high steps to access the hotel, staff offer no help instead they actually look at you like you are a nuisance. At arrival, the check-in staff tried to charge us for the extra bed in the room without bothering to see the booking so be careful if travelling with a family. We were told we can have a complimentary drink from their bar. When trying to claim this offer the staff makes you feel like you are a freeloader, pure rude behaviour followed by a list of drinks that the offer doesn't cover. Basically you can only have a beer or a soft drink. They say they have parking on premises but it's actually just free off-street parking. On the day of our departure there was a fare in the city center so we had to park our car 2miles away. The staff prefers business from walk-in customers in bar and restaurant over hotel guests. Attitude towards children was specially cold and distant, again making us feel like we are causing them extra work.

The location of the hotel was a little difficult for us, we had seen that we were almost 2 km from the centre of Nieuwpoort and the nearby tram stop.
Parking at the hotel's site was found to cost €17 per day,€0.80 per hour,we have been wisely thanked for it and put our car along the street ( free)
Nothing was noticeable at the hotel, everything was okay, but it was allowed for the price we paid in the whole season (first half of August)
Breakfast is €18 per person and per day ...but was extended and constantly was filled up everything, only sad that the English breakfast was as good as cold, apparently the heat retention plate does not work well ( ?? )
Drinks are very expensive in the hotel, noticeably more expensive than in the centre of Nieuwpoort.

TtloackerWe stayed at Hotel Bero with our 2 little kids. As we read quite a few negative reviews on outside noises, we asked beforehand if they could guarantee a quite room. An employee called Sébastien confirmed vie e-mail to give us a room without air condition or other noise outside. Upon arrival they gave us a room next to a construction site with nonstop noise from 7am to 5pm. When we complained, they kept putting us off till later (“construction will stop tomorrow”, “I will talk to the management by tomorrow”), but nothing ever changed. They only offered another room with air condition noise outside. After the 2nd night we couldn’t handle the noise anymore and decided to go home early. When asking for a compensation due to Sébastien’s wrong written confirmation and unmet agreement, they stopped being friendly: “What did you expect when booking a hotel in the city centre?”, “This would not have happened, if you had taken the room next to the air condition”. They said they could not to more for us, but refused to give us the management’s phone number – because of data protection, while on the same hand, they had an applicant’s CV lying on the reception counter for everyone to see. Adressed to that, the receptionist yelled at us if we wanted to threaten her – she could not see how she was applying double standards. They did not give us a compensation (“because until now you used all the services, like breakfast”) – except for offering a voucher for our next stay, ironically: We left early because of the poor circumstances, why would we seriously go back to a place with noise and lying employees? I would not recommend it to anyone. We wasted a lot of money on a noisy non-relaxing holiday.
The Leopold is an internally stunning hotel, usefully close to the beach and the Kursaal. I realise that the shape of the rooms is dictated by the shape of the building, but mine had some annoying quirks. For example, no soap at the wash basin, so you have to leap across the room into the shower to squeeze some from the wall-mounted dispenser. The towels are in the toilet. There is no flat surface to write on. One of the shelves wastes space by gluing a tissue box in the middle. There are three electric sockets, one halfway up the wall, so there is nowhere to attach the kettle, and two you have to get down on your knees to use. I am too old for that. Sorry to nitpick. The staff are mostly lovely, but if you are on reception and on the phone, at least acknowledge the guest standing in front of you, trying to check in, while you are completing your phone call.
GGuest UserThe hotel is perfectly situated close to the beach, restaurants and bars. It’s one stop on the tram from the railway station with the stop directly opposite the hotel. I booked direct and couldn’t have been more pleased how easy it was as I required two twin rooms. We stayed five nights and the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable although a little dated, the bar was comfortable and relaxing and every member of staff was very friendly and professional. The price included breakfast which was one of the best hotel breakfast we’ve had in awhile. Thank you for great stay.
PPaulB10092I was in room 25 from thursday until saturday the last weekend. The location, price and facilies were good. There are a couple of points i could raise..1: central heating was off at night when it was cold and 2: because i could only eat 2 items from breakfast [bread and bacon], instead of the lardons of bacon, a few full slices would be better but i think thats a personal choice. The room was really comfortable, The staff we so friendly and helpful. Looking at bringing parties to the louisa later in the year. I have already recommended the hotel to other people i know. Guide760033 needs to really get a life. His review was disrespectful, unnecessary and a waste of time reading and believing.
So there are a lot of ”horror-reviews” about this place and after staying for two nights I can somehow see where it comes from but I still think most of the criticism is WAY too harsh. I went there for the time of two Rammstein-shows and it was okay. The staff was very friendly and helpful, my room got cleaned every day after I left and the kind of ”secret” parking which is a bit narrow, so not for beginners, was a nice safety factor. I did have a weird dark spot on my blanket but upon inspection I figured it was basically just a discoloured spot in the fabric itself - obviously doesn't look nice, but was definitely not a hygienical concern; just a case of ”sheets that have been around a bit too long”; still everything got cleaned and washed every morning; I did see the cleaning staff in action every morning. I didn't expect to stay in a super extra luxury hotel, but a nice little accomodation in the city center to get to my shows and then have a few nice beers at the end before returning - and I got exactly that. The hotel IS kind of noisy, as the building itself seems to be rather old, so the walls are kind of thin, be prepared for that. But other than that, it really is by far not as bad as some drama queens on here describe it. I had a nice time in Oostende and the staff was super nice and helpful. Is it a family hotel? Probably not. Is it okay if you're staying alone or with a group of adults and are planing to have some fun in the city? Definitely.
