Based on good reviews, I booked this hotel quite a while ago for a girls' birthday trip. My friend and I were eager to see the Leacock House, the OPP Museum, the Art Gallery and more. I had opted for a second storey room (there are apparently no elevators), but when we were given the first floor, I had no complaints. The interior of the hotel was nicely appointed. Looked like it had been renovated. We were sent to our room 143 which was at the end of the hallway next to two sets of back doors with crash bars, and beside some kind of staff room. Again, the room was very nice, clean, and had a fridge and microwave. The view from the patio doors was the parking lot and a few huge trucks but it wasn't really an issue. The problem arose when we were settled in and were sleeping. At 4 a.m. the doors began crashing, clanging, and banging constantly. It wasn't once but continuous so it became impossible to sleep after that. This went on until we finally gave up, packed our belongings, and went to breakfast at 6:30. Besides that, our room started to smell like smoke. We later noted an outdoor ashtray outside our patio doors which people apparently opted to use at all hours. I received my receipt under the door, but made a point of turning in the keys at the front desk after breakfast so that I could mention the problem. I received a "so what" look from the lady at the desk...no explanation, no apology, nothing. Nobody should have to endure this, so my suggestion is to be vigilant regarding your room location. Other than that, our visit to Orillia and all the galleries was lovely.
