The location is very convenient, but I only had it tethered for 4 hours.

This hotel hidden behind the railway station at Ollantaytambo surpassed my expectations. I stayed in one of the upper rooms with a balcony for three nights from September 14 -17. The hotel is like beautiful secret garden behind the railway station. Rooms are spacious, attractively designed and have all you would need and are so peaceful away from the comings and goings of tourists from the various trains going to Machu Picchu. I chose it because I love railways, it was convenient for taking the train and it looked tranquil on ***********. Although it was the most expensive hotel I stayed in during my 6 week journey through Peru and Bolivia, it was the far and away the loveliest. I have backpacked around the world extensively over the last 35 years staying in a wide range of accommodation and this hotel is in my top 10. I enjoyed my time in Ollantaytambo more than my day to Machu Picchu. It is a lovely small walkable town especially once the day trippers have left! The hotel restaurant serves delicious food and the attached platform cafe serves good coffee. The staff were helpful and tolerant of my bad Spanish. There are lots of little hidden paths around the place which are shown on the small map the hotel can provide. There was a power cut the day I arrived [this is not uncommon in Peru - some planned some not] but the hotel itself had a generator.

Spent two nights here as part of our travels in Peru. We enjoyed a large double room with lovely views from the verandah to the nearby mountains and local Inca ruins. The hotel bar/restaurant is situated directly off the adjoining railway platform , with the coming and going of trains to and from Machu Picchu, providing an ever changing back drop . The hotel also has a good menu which utilises home grown produce. The gardens are well worth a visit . The bar also serves an excellent, locally produced, Sacred Valley craft beer. Quirky and delightful in equal measure. We really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is known for its garden and views, but other aspects leave a lot to be desired. In fact, the hotel was quite disappointing. The hotel definitely does not meet the standards of a boutique hotel, as it describes itself. - rooms are ok, conformable, but basic. - PREJUDICED treatment by the staff. I felt a huge difference in treatment between European and North American guests and Latin guests. I had never experienced this before in a hotel and I found it very serious. - It definitely does not work for long stays or as a base for exploring the Sacred Valley, precisely because it is at the train station. The place has a strong smell of BURNING FUEL, and there is TRAIN NOISE all the time. You wake up and go to sleep to the sound of whistles, which is very chaotic and unpleasant. - There are other much better options in the city. - It is about 10 minutes from the center, with a reasonable climb. And you have to wait in lines of train passengers to get into your hotel every day. - Breakfast is REPETITIVE AND WITHOUT VARIETY. Simpler hotels in the area had infinitely better coffee. However, it seems to be standard for the hotel, a jacket that other guests have complained about in past reviews and nothing has been done. They say they will improve in the responses to reviews and nothing has changed. - Professional staff, but IMPATIENT AND IRRITATED. They are resistant to simple requests. - I asked for computer at the reception to view a personal document that can only be accessed via computers. They did not allow me to use it, and there was no other available for guests to use. - A hotel of this value has no amenities whatsoever, only soap. There is no shower cap, skin moisturizer, cotton wool. I have never seen this in hotels that classify themselves as "boutique".

Thanks, El Albergue, for a hospitable intro to Ollantaytambo! Fantastic in-site amenities— sauna, coffee roaster, distillery, gardens. Easy access to train station, archaeological sites, Plaza de Armas. Superior breakfast buffet, menu, staff (*thanks, receptionist Marianne, barista/bartender Christian, & server Liz). Comfy beds, quiet rooms, quick laundry service, quality souvenirs/gifts! Will recommend to one and all!

Our stay at El Albergue was wonderful! If you are planning to go to Machu Picchu, this is the most convenient spot for your stay—hands down. You can literally step out the lobby door and get onto the train. Since we left very early for our tour, they even packed us a sack breakfast to take with us! They have also created a garden oasis that you would NEVER imagine is right next to a train. You have to see it to believe it—stunningly beautiful. The manager and front desk employees were very accommodating. Prior to arriving in Ollantaytambo, I emailed extensively with the reservations agent, the amazing Helen Saenz. She helped us arrange the transportation for another tour, as well as a transfer to our next hotel in Urubamba. She responded quickly, made great recommendations, and took care of everything we needed. Thank you, Helen. Outstanding customer service! We highly recommend El Albergue.
