The Ranald Hotel

We were at the beginning of a Rick Steves tour. We were assigned apartment 7 at the Ranald Hotel. The apartment was nothing like the photos on their website. It was filthy and very hot. The floors got our feet and socks dirty and we had too keep the window and entry door open to cool down. Of course the midges and other insects came in. All the dishes in the cupboard were dirty. They had dried food on them like they were put away without washing. We washed them. The sheets and towels were also stained and long hairs in the bed. The bathroom fans did not work. There was never anyone at reception to ask for help. We suspect that not much effort was put in room cleaning. All the cleaning supplies were in the kitchen sink. Weird! One couple was given a room that wasn’t cleaned at all. The only highlight was the morning kitchen staff, very sweet and worked very hard at breakfast.

Booked a dbb deal last minute. Then there was no availability for dinner. Apparently nothing can be done. The reasoning was because it was a last minute booking. If you can't guarantee a table last minute, don't let dbb be an option last minute! Otherwise, room nice place clean.

This hotel is in a really good location in Oban, close to the harbor, walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Booked a room for 3 people with a Super King & Single Bed. Checkin went smoothly and we had no trouble finding parking on the street out front. It was clean and comfortable and quiet for our 1 night stay in Oban.

Stayed here with my sister for 1 night only in late July 2024, after escaping from a horrific local b&b. Couldn't have been happier with our room, location aswell as the staff. The young man on the front desk,Archie was so very kind and obliging. We were on the 3rd floor, with no lift, no problems, he carried our luggage on arrival and also received help from a lovely young girl on departure. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was delicious. Just wish we had more time to enjoy this lovely hotel.

I would have given it 5/5 except it lacks a lift. I was lucky enough to be in street room. So my old bones were saved! Breakfast was limited but tasty. The room was comfortable and clean. I would only stay again IF I had a street room, cuz I'm old, nice location

Understaffed with nobody at reception for checkin. Our party of 7 and another party of 2 waited in very small reception area for someody to show up. Sign said "back in 10 minutes" but it was much longer. No elevator and nobody to help with taking luggage up stairs. Toilet on main floor was out of order and looked like it had been for a long time (looked like being used as a storage room). Bar and breakfast room patrons had no access to bathroom except for their own rooms which could be up 4 flights of stairs. Room was decent but overshadowed by other hotel shortcomings.

Lovely little hotel. Our family of 5 visited with 2 rooms- one triple and one grand room. Both rooms were spacious and clean. It was nice to have a fan as well as plenty extra linens. Morning breakfast was included and had a lot of variety. The woman working at the front desk (I don't remember her name) was lovely, friendly and very helpful. If in Oban again, we would stay here without a thought!!!
