Kissel Uptown Oakland, in the Unbound Collection

The room was spotless, spacious, stylish and comfortable. The location is convenient - from the airport, it's easily accessible via BART plus a short walk. Also plenty of bars and restaurants within a walkable distance. The staff are very friendly, helpful and flexible. Prices were significantly more reasonable other hotels that I priced for that weekend. Highly recommend!

Mirrored walls at entrance, cheap furniture, indifferent staff...The hotel website says it's in a vibrant area with good restaurants nearby (at Hive)- nope- a man on the street stopped us in the early evening (7:00) because he was concered about our safety walking in this neighbourhood even five minutes to a nearby restaurant. Street crime is an issue. Restaurants are very cheap in the area principally take out and budget. The rooms are clean and updated but the principal areas are shoddy and no care seems to be paid to them. For example, there was no toilet paper or paper to dry your hands in the main floor washroom off the restaurant (this is the only washroom on main floor, it is unisex, ok with us, but this seemed odd for a large hotel). The main floor restaurant is uncomfortably open and the rooftop bar has only snacks so there was nowhere on site to have a comfortable meal. $52.00 valet parking....but parking nearby is probably iffy in this kind of neighbourhood.

This was a very nice place to stay and met our needs. The people there were pleasant. Unfortunately, through an error they charged my prepaid stay so that I ended up double-billed. I tried repeatedly to resolve this in person and on the phone; the first three attempts they denied it; on checking out they said it was resolved; then the doublecharged cleared my credit card anyway. It's been 4 days since I checked out and despite another phone call it's still unresolved. Surprising and unfortunate outcome.

After a rough experience before arriving at the hotel—my car’s back window was smashed, and a piece of my luggage was stolen—I checked in feeling quite shaken. From the moment I arrived, the hotel staff showed genuine kindness and support. Special thanks to Philippios and Armando from valet parking, who went above and beyond by spending two hours helping me clean up the broken glass and patching my back window, ensuring I could drive home safely the next day. Their incredible hospitality has made me a loyal Hyatt customer for life.

This hotel is really nice – the rooms were spacious and the staff was helpful. It was, however, very noisy especially in the evening. The music from the bar across the street was very loud and we could hear the people walking in the room above us. The building does not seem to be well insulated for sound. Overall though I would recommend – just bring a sound machine for sleeping!

The Kissell is a great little hotel in Oakland. I was traveling solo and I felt safe there. The staff is attentive, rooms are clean and it's conveniently located. I did not have a meal there during my stay, so I am not able to comment on the food or wait staff. I highly recommend the Kissell Hotel!

Really enjoyed my stay at the Kissel. Not only did they notice it was a special occasion for me and my wife, they made sure, I was able to get my room service order in before they closed. It's a great location for some Oakland centric resturants...you have to go across the street to Smellys Creole &Soul Food...food coma.
