"-" cons First of all, I would like to focus on the road to the hotel. We rented a Honda wagon and could not get to the hotel without the help of four people pushing the car up the hill. The road is partially unasphalted. The hot water periodically flowed cool, weak pressure. Since the hotel is located in the mountains, it was very windy and at night the wind could be heard through the door cracks and the balcony. Also, at about 4 am and until about 8 o'clock the rooster crowed continuously. In addition, our booking through trip.com was the first for this hotel. The administrator asked several times on the day of check-in and check-out to show proof of payment, called to her management and asked us to talk to them about the payment. "+" pros Dinner and breakfast was well prepared. The whole set of factors made our stay at this hotel, let's say, uncomfortable.

Positive Check in was quick, our room was on the ground floor by reception. The bed was comfortable enough. The vegetable curry they made for us was delicious. The staff that were on duty were really nice and helped where they can. Negative This definitely isn’t a 5* hotel as advertised. It’s more like a 3 or 4* homestay/ bedsit at best but it’s not a hotel. Our view was some of the village/mountain but mainly a roof, it was howling outside. There was heating in the room but not in the dining or area where you can chill. Because it seemed we were their only guests, they didn’t have much on the menu but they did rustle up a good veggie curry and an egg sandwich the breakfast box. In terms of prices of food, it was all in dollars and I thought it was on the pricy side (example: Fries was $10). The floor was slippery as they said they had polished it. The Bathroom was clean enough, toilet was broken, no mirror (you can see where it was), there was dirt and mould in small areas and the hot water didn’t work. We didn’t take a shower and left early the next day as scheduled. There air was damp, bed frame was broken and rickety, for me it was soft and comfy once I settled but my friend wasn’t comfortable at all! You cannot get Wi-Fi in the lounge were the fire place was. It was also cold but because of the wind, they could switch on the fire. It’s in the middle of nowhere, so ensure you have a car.

I had booked a room for a weekend for a family member to enjoy their birthday and he was blown away by the experience/guest experience. The space is beautiful and looks like paradise, the food is excellent, very clean space including the bathrooms and the highlight of it all was the friendly staff. They were extremely helpful and kind providing many things to do while visiting. Would definitely recommend for anyone passing by for a stay!

Myself and several of our family members visited Forest Lake Hotel while we were visiting Sri Lanka from the U.S. Out of eight 4-5 star hotels we visited, this is one of my favorites. Great food, beautiful landscape, excellent service and love the location.

I booked thI booked the best room in the hotel "the oak" The verst hotel that i have been to, I booked it for 3 nights and 4 days, and stayed only for 15 hours. there was no water, and when complained to the owner, he gives excuses but not actions. When water comes, its full of mud, taps doesnt work properly, Jacuzzi doesnt operate. When one taps opens no water comes from other taps. Leakages all over the bathroom. Disgusting. The room is big and seems okay, but it hasn't been cleaned for ages, i think this is because guest doesn't come frequently. The road to the hotel is as bad as hotel. The food is a another mess, for dinner rhey only had boiled potatoes and carrots. The breakfast is good as the hotel. I strongly recommend NOT to book this hotel at any cost. The way the so called owner handle matters depict the state of the hotel, doesnt consider about the customer at all, no courtesy atleast to apologies Very very bad.e best room in the hotel "the oak" The verst hotel that i have been to, I booked it for 3 nights and 4 days, and stayed only for 15 hours. there was no water, and when complained to the owner, he gives excuses but not actions. The good: Tharindu & Varun, onsite staff, are very helpful. The bad: This hotel claims it's the "Epitome of Luxury". Is it? Judge for yourself: *room's doorknob doesn't work *TV only local stations with grainy picture, no remote *broken fixtures everywhere *trash bin with food pedal that's broken *broken window in lounge *picture window condenses. Can't see out of it. *bathtub leaks on floor *shower door doesn't shut *no facial tissue *bed creaks badly *hot water hard to control, too hot, too cold *salty food *scenic view obscured by new construction *unsafe electrical outlet *no way to pay bill by credit card. *incompetent management. Manager could not find my booking. I happened to call before arriving. Ms. Hamsimi told me I had to contact Hotels. I gave her all the information. Still, I had to spend hours and hours as the go-between. She wanted me to cancel my booking, and she offered a big discount. I was in the process of doing so, following her instructions, and she suddenly did an about face, reneged on her offer. She told me we would talk about this issue when I came, but she knew the whole time that she wasn't going to be here when we arrived! She was out of town, and refused to answer my messages. I paid about $230/night for at best a 2 star, neglected, mismanaged property. My wife observed, "There is nothing in this hotel that doesn't have problems." That's no exaggeration. This experience has definitely shaken my confidence in ********** as well.
