A charming and comfortable hotel and pub. Great food and service, particularly from Julia, Amanda and Tim. We stayed for a family reunion and were very well looked after. The village of Farnham is nestled in the Dorset countryside, but easily accessible. Several cottages have picturesque thatched roofs, and the small parish church of St Lawrence is worth a look.

Stayed one night. The bed was excellent. Proper mattress, quality linen, and pillows. The bathroom was spacious, clean, and modern. Evening meal, sensible choices we'll executed. Breakfast all wad good. There is a resident lounge. Can't remember what we paid, but I remember thinking great value. Thank you, team Museum Inn.

The atmosphere at the Museum in was fabulous. The staff from start to finish were very helpful. I needed extra pillows as needed to sleep upright. They were there for me with in my room in 10 minutes. All the locals were extremely accommodating as well making you feel at home 7 hours away from our actual home. Food and drink was great. Rooms were beautifully clean beds were comfortable bathroom was large and clean. There were two couples and we had a link in rooms which was ideal for an evening nightcap. Staff were accommodating with ice and glasses for our nightcap. Beautiful village, pleasant walk round and lots to do in neighbouring. Towns and villages would definitely visit again.

Went on a midweek Winter deal. Hugely disappointing. Staff were friendly and accommodating, dinner was perfectly nice but nothing more. Expensive food but that I feel is to be expected in this climate - standards have to be raised though to meet this. Breakfast was shocking particularly on the first morning. Eggs royale - couldn’t be bothered to toast the muffin, soaked through with poached egg water, one runny egg, one hard. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon didn’t fare much better, just smacked of ‘couldnt be bothered.’ Butcombe Brewery, you need to do better. This place is SO tired. The carpets in the public areas downstairs are so disgusting and need to be replaced with something a little more hardwearing bearing in mind it’s a country pub with plenty of muddy footfall. The carpet in the breakfast room is enough to put you off your food - and supposedly you can have your wedding in this room. How they sell that to couples I have no idea. Rooms are clean but tired, our bathroom was hygienically clean but pretty grubby, paint peeling or scuffed everywhere, and the shower didn’t work properly. Public areas on the way upstairs are very badly scuffed so not a great first impression. I get it, pubs get busy with people who don’t treat them like they would their own homes but honestly, get your paint pot out and touch up once in awhile, it’s not difficult and it’s not expensive. Hospitality is struggling, the cost of food is astronomical and it’s not easy. But money doesn’t grow on trees for me the customer either. Just not good enough. We won’t return sadly, and we couldn’t recommend. We’d paid up front, couldn’t even be bothered to complain, just looked forward to going home.

I stopped here due to work commitments, it appears lovely and could do with a refurb, the breakfast does not start until 08:30 most business people are on the road by then, I request a breakfast pack for the first 3 days due to early start, first day ok, next tow days terrible very very small portions, last day breakfast was the worst breakfast I’ve ever had! food dumped on the plate no presentation, sausage not cooked bacon not cooked ! Beans were cold I travel all over the country and this the worst ever! Won’t stay there again! Will not recommend to any colleagues either.

What a find, possibly the best bed I've slept on our year of mid week date nights, sooo dog friendly, food was fab as was the service and ambience . The rooms are in the stables, modern country, really comfortable with Bramley soaps. It was great.

It was an awful day with wind and rain, floods all over the area when we went for lunch. We were welcomed warmly and instantly made aware of the Butcombe offers by our waitress - who was funny, helpful and efficient.! The food was equally as good as the welcome. We will definitely be back!

Disappointed with lunch food, too pricey for what is offered, £16.95 for basic & small ploughman’s. 2 halves of 1 thin sourdough slice. Small pieces of cheese & ham. However most disappointed in brownie desserts, both of which were raw, not gooey under cooked ( waiter did arrange refund on these). We were repeat customers but poor today.

The Museum Inn has a lot going for it. Lovely rural setting, architecturally interesting and a comfortable, well appointed, bedroom. Dinner and breakfast were tasty and well prepared. I’d actually give them 3.5 stars. Why not more? Well, the dinner menu had few vegetarian choices, which does seem short-sighted nowadays. Particularly frustrating was the long wait to take our order once seated at our reserved table (we eventually had to seek out a waiter), and even longer for the actual meal. We gave up waiting for someone to take our pudding order. Our bedroom had a welcome letter from the manager - addressed to the wrong guest. The room fittings were a little tired, and if you’re not a great enthusiast of hunting (we aren’t), then the themed décor will rankle somewhat.
