This is my third trip/adventure to Japan. I would say as a solo traveler this has to be one of the very best places I have ever stayed in when travelling around Japan. I came to Nikko np to explore the vast array of hiking trails, all of which I did, had breathtaking views and a poetic, truly majestic Japanese feel to them. I rented a car from Nasushiobara (Shinkansen) and drove across to Kinugawa. On arrival I was greeted by a host of the hotel staff, welcoming me and helping me with parking and my bags. I checked in with ease and with some broken English and Japanese on my part was led to a beautiful traditional Japanese style room overlooking the river. The service throughout was world class and made me feel both very comfortable, at home, but also special. I stayed 3 nights with half board (breakfast and dinner), both truly amazing and served with grace and politeness. On the first evening’s dinner one of the serving staff took the time to speak with me and allowed me to share some of my recent experiences/photos etc whilst preparing dinner - this was most welcome, especially as I had been travelling alone for over a week. The location of the onsen hotel is about 60 mins drive to some of the most sought after walks in the np. Very easy to access by car and excellent roads. The accommodation itself is a mix between very traditional Japanese resort and original/boutique Ryokan. The private and public onsen’s are fantastic and a well deserved rest-bite after a long days hiking! Having been to some of the most popular ryokan’s in Japan; Iwaso, Claska etc, this came as a very nice surprise and at an affordable rate without any compromise. If in the area, I would highly recommend staying…

Asaya is a large onsen hotel rather isolated from stores, shops, and restos. Inside there are lots of them but I could not find a cup of coffee at 4:00 AM. There is free tea dispenser in the lobby. We all had access to the Premiere Club room by 6:00 AM where we could enjoy snacks and drinks and coffee. Breakfast is served for guests. We ate there and in the main dining room for one of our breakfasts. I loved their beef jerky which I took to my room to eat later. The main dining room for breakfast and dinner offered a hidden room with semi-privacy. The size of our tatami room with Premiere access was just enormous -- about as large as any hotel room I have ever had (one exception was in a Las Vegas hotel). The floor was mainly tatami mats but bamboo flooring in the bathroom and toilet rooms. The housekeeping is immaculate with daily service. There's a long queue just before dinner at 5:30. The food was delicious and plentiful with steak, crab legs, tempera, sashimi, and other seafoods. I enjoyed the soft serve.

I was disturbed by my family. Because it was summer, it was a little empty, but not only the proprietress but also the staff treated everyone, including foreigners, politely and kindly, and I was able to spend a pleasant time. The view of the Kinugawa river from the room was beautiful, and the bathroom was well-cleaned and beautiful. The room and toilet were clean. In addition, both dinner and breakfast were delicious with full Japanese taste. However, it may have been an adult taste for children in their teens.

I went to this inn by train, but I couldn't find a good time, so I waited about two hours before I finally got to the nearest one. The location is not in the city center, so it was a little inconvenient to take the train, but it made up for it by being able to stay in nature, which was a valuable experience. The building is quaint and the atmosphere is great. I wanted to stay one more night. In the morning, I could see a family of monkeys from the window, and I was able to spend time with a view that I don't usually see. There are no convenience stores nearby, so I bought some snacks in advance. Next time I'd like to visit by car.

I went with 4 family members. It was cheap for half board per night, so I was a little worried, but I was worried. The room had the next room like a mahjong room. It was a room that I had been to a company on a employee trip around the Showa era. It was old, but there was no problem with cleaning, and the mountain stream was overlooked and the view was good. The meal is buffet style. Alcohol is an extra charge, and there is an all-you-can-drink plan for 60 or 90 minutes, and it is better for those who say that it is alcohol. I had a 90-minute all-you-can-drink plan and enjoyed eating for 90 minutes. There were quite a few types of dinner and breakfast, and I enjoyed various things according to my taste. Maybe it was due to the time, but the meal and the hot springs were soaked that I was able to relax.

What a remarkable experience! The inability to find words speaks volumes. Everything was flawless, meeting high Western standards. Additionally, we inadvertently left a sweater in the room as we continued to Tokyo. Upon contacting the hotel, the staff were immensely helpful in resolving the issue. They efficiently arranged for the sweater to be delivered to Tokyo, saving us considerable effort and allowing us to continue our journey peacefully. The service was exceptional, especially considering that the responsibility was entirely ours. Absolutely outstanding service..

Having only just arrived a few days earlier in Japan - this was our first experience of a ryokan . We didn’t know what to expect but it turned out to be a fantastic experience. From choosing our own Kimono to wear around the hotel to our beautiful spacious room with wonderful views of the autumn trees behind, every detail had been thought about. The onsen was wonderful with a pool. Inside and outside. We had a private dining room where we were served the most incredible meals in beautiful Japanese ceramics of all kinds of shapes and sizes. We were attended to by the Chun, a young Vietnamese girl who was just charming, she couldn’t do enough for us and tried so hard with her English - she really made our stay.. this ryokan is also right opposite the shrines , so its a great location and right on the bus route for getting further into the hills. We really recommend this place.

The staff service is very warm. When you change the hotel, you can send your luggage. The hotel is very quiet in the mountains. It is suitable for staying here for a few days to feel the atmosphere of Japan quietly. There is an open-air hot spring in the house. Don't be too comfortable. Going for a walk below, the winter wind is a bit blown, and the hotel is especially rich in breakfast and dinner, very delicious.

I just wanted to come over and see how many of Ctrip’s Lizi orders there are, haha. . . The lake view is even better after staying here, the outdoor hot springs are a must, and the breakfast photos taken in the house are very nice. The indoor fragrance sold in the boutique is delicious. I recommend taking a bottle home. There are also places to complain. Checking in during the off-peak hours makes me very irritable even when sitting in the lounge during peak hours. Also, it is not easy to get to the hotel.

Jjlow123Most of the reviews are outdated so I thought I'd give an updated review. For one thing, there is WiFi (I have informed the landlady that the website indicates otherwise). This place is a traditional-style inn. You'll be sleeping in a futon (some Google-fu should help you know how to use one), use two pairs of slippers (one for moving around the house, one exclusively for the toilet) and will also bathe in a Japanese-style shared bathroom. The front gate and bathroom close at 10pm, which is not an issue as everywhere in Nikko closes early and it's too dark to hike outdoors (in early Autumn). We loved using the onsen to relax after a day of strolling around and hiking, and the delicious Japanese-style breakfast was lovingly prepared by a friendly old granny. The premises are old but well-maintained. Toilets, bathroom and onsen were great but we were there during off-peak season so we didn't need to share so much. Should we return to Nikko, this place will be our first choice!

TTL.TeddyWe were hosted by an elderly couple, and his family members. They were super cute, friendly and polite. It's like their small family business, ground floor was a western restaurant, second floor onwards were all the guest rooms. They know a bit of English, so the communication wise no issue at all. What we love about this stay is that other than the room with gorgeous lake view, the host was super helpful to allow us to store our luggage with them even way before our check-in timing. Furthermore he even offer to send us to the laundry shop, when we just casually ask him about the laundry. What actually surprised me the most, was that he even FETCH us from the laundry shop after we were done. Will definitely come back to this place again if I'm in Nikko! Thumbs up! Super host!! 😁

Mmdfl87My wife and I booked the Nikko Station Hotel II for April 13 - 15 as a non refundable reservation. This week, the US State Dept issued a Level 4 warning for all US citizens to avoid international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of their normal policy, the Nikko Station Hotel II made an exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issued a full refund. We will reschedule our trip to Japan after the pandemic passes and WILL DEFINITELY rebook at the Nikko Station Hotel II, as they have shown excellent customer service in a difficult time!

HHoSVery old school ryokan run by very friendly who has been working there for many years. Your name will be displayed on the board next to the entrance of the ryokan to show that they were currently welcoming these guests staying at the ryokan! We stayed there for 2 nights with free parking and we didn’t have to drive anywhere until we checked out as the ryokan is within walking distance to the 3 major world heritage listed shrines including The Toshogu Palace. Avoid room 312 or 313 (which we stayed) which are the smallest rooms. Those rooms in the middle parts are bigger and more comfortable. Do ask for any room facing the back of the ryokan and avoid those facing the front where you only see car parks with coaches coming in the morning bringing tourists to the shrines. The onsite Onsen for ryokan guests, breakfasts and dinners are the highlights. You’d love the traditional Japanese meals served there and you won’t be hungry. Would I come back to this ryokan again? Yes definitely due to its location and friendly staff.

AAnonymous UserIt is considered a good place to stay, in the middle of a small town, up on a mountain, with few people, lots of nature, and a view of the lake that shines with light during the day. or the moon shining in the night The room was very large for more than 2 people. There was a normal bed and a futon. Japanese floor seating area And the onsen in the hotel that broke midnight was very impressive. When we first arrived, the young employee didn't seem too interested in us. Even though we understand that we still can't check in. We just want to leave our bags first. So I secretly deducted service points. But when checking out, I found an employee who was a bit older. He looked very enthusiastic. I'm very impressed. Thank you so much for being the employee when checking out, it really changed my mood.

Hhappy-cThe room is quite large, the beds are all large double beds, the tables, chairs and sofas are also very good, there are also projectors and TVs, the kitchen is also fully equipped, including a microwave, induction cooker, and cooking utensils, so you can cook by yourself. The whole room is a big open space The room has no partitions and is not suitable for those who need privacy. Those who live on the first floor may face the noise from residents walking on the second floor. The hotel is located next to the highway, next to a small village, about a quarter of an hour's walk from Tobu Nikko Station. Although the road is not long, it is not very smooth. There is a 7-11 and a larger supermarket within three minutes. There is no front desk, check-in requires self-service, and the room has a password lock. Remember that you cannot check in before three o'clock and you cannot store your luggage. Your luggage can be stored at the station. It cost 5,100 RMB to stay for three days. The black house at the end of the video is the hotel.

NNieva MayThe place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of ”omotenashi”. Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again.

GGuest UserThe room was large and very pleasant - and very Japanese in layout and bedding... The staff was incredible - going out of their way to make us comfortable and help out. Booked a private onsen which was outdoors under a roof in a big rainstorm - delightful experience. And the little counter shop in the bottom floor had great food and a wonderful woman running it - even if we had no Japanese schools and she had little English - but made us feel completely at home. The only thing to note is that you will be out into Japan away from the big cities - communication is harder (heavy use of google translate - including with the staff). Just a heads up for those that are uncomfortable in that situation

GGuest UserWe picked the best time to go. The autumn colours were a cascade of vibrant brilliance and colour. We went here for hiking and sightseeing from a two hour train ride from Tokyo. We took an hour and a half bus from Nikko. You could buy a three day pass for 3,500 yen and stop offat different places on the way. Buses ran everyhalf hour mostly and were easy to navigate. The hotel is a traditional style accommodation. There was a group of four of us who slept in the 1 room. It was tight but we were rarely in the room and it was only an overnight so it was okay. 37,000 yen for the four of us. It was clean and warm when we arrived and very warm for the whole night. English is not great but they don't hold it against you and we had google translate. The onsen was amazing at an extra 600 yen tax. There are two. The sulphur smell was pretty strong throughout the night which was probably the only downside but I'm sure it would be the same in all the hotels in that area. We did have to get them to organise extra bedding which they were happy to do but you need to be very specific in what your needs were and be able to explain it. Ours came with a breakfast option at an extra 1000 yen each which was a traditional Japanese style and well worth it. There are no shops around the area so take your own snacks. No dinner options in the immediate area. Although you could probably do a 30 minute walk to the Falls where they may have some food options or there might be more options as borders open up. The lake walk is about 6k and very easy. Not really pram friendly. Great place to stay if you want to be away from the crowds of Nikko. The Falls walk is about 30 to 40 minutes and there is food available but I'm not sure when it opens or closes, a great place to have an ice cream and toilets. There are other hikes in the area but we ran out of time.

GGuest UserI often use Itoen Hotel. This time I went to Kinugawa because I wanted to show my son the autumn leaves. The hall 々 that overwhelms the others, and the parking lot is already pan-pan. It's great that the guide will respond well, but ”the parking lot will be a different place, so please follow the shuttle bus.” Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey Moreover, the fourth parking lot is far from the hotel (it breaks your heart on foot). This is much safer to get a map and guide you. When I thought of check-in, there was a system that corresponds to the order with a number tag of a flock of exhausted customers, and I opened six counters probably because it was a busy time. I waited for about 30 minutes until I was called, and I made a reservation for dinner and breakfast at another counter, and I thought it was a low cost, so I was careful about the procedure. At such a time, I thought I could kill time by choosing souvenirs and open a shop, but it was closed. I was guided to the annex because I had been extended, but once I went out of the main building (cold), I took the elevator to the corresponding floor and the stairs. I had to carry my luggage up, and the luggage truck I borrowed from the front desk was not very helpful. And I'm a little lost due to the complex structure. I avoided it because he told me the crowded time zone at the evening breakfast counter, but in the end it was crowded and the distance from the next seat was so far that I couldn't get a social distance. Well, I focused on all-you-can-drink. I love all-you-can-drink super dry at Itoen Hotel. It was a blissful time to drink like a sake and take a bath in a senpod. Although it is the content of the rice, the menu was richer than other affiliated stores, and shrimp tempura, shrimp, salmon, and engawa sushi were prepared enough, and the replenishment was quick. Although it is a bath, the indoor bath at a good temperature and the bathtub are large and spacious, and the open-air bath has stairs, but it was a rock bath where you can relax. However, you can only get three dryers for this scale. There was a line waiting for the dryer. When I returned to my room and went to bed, it got cold at night in early November, so I couldn't turn on the heating with a small air conditioner, and I woke up several times in the cold at night. Both the futons are thin. Breakfast is as crowded as I imagined. I was disappointed that there was little to do with side dishes. I'm aiming for a low-cost inn, and Itoen Hotel has this quality, so I think it's terrible to ask for more as others say, because there is no way to inconvenience. Access to tourist spots is great and the staff is good, so it's not ”I won't use it anymore!”, but I think it's better to go out with color 々.
