I was disturbed by my family. Because it was summer, it was a little empty, but not only the proprietress but also the staff treated everyone, including foreigners, politely and kindly, and I was able to spend a pleasant time. The view of the Kinugawa river from the room was beautiful, and the bathroom was well-cleaned and beautiful. The room and toilet were clean. In addition, both dinner and breakfast were delicious with full Japanese taste. However, it may have been an adult taste for children in their teens.

I went with 4 family members. It was cheap for half board per night, so I was a little worried, but I was worried. The room had the next room like a mahjong room. It was a room that I had been to a company on a employee trip around the Showa era. It was old, but there was no problem with cleaning, and the mountain stream was overlooked and the view was good. The meal is buffet style. Alcohol is an extra charge, and there is an all-you-can-drink plan for 60 or 90 minutes, and it is better for those who say that it is alcohol. I had a 90-minute all-you-can-drink plan and enjoyed eating for 90 minutes. There were quite a few types of dinner and breakfast, and I enjoyed various things according to my taste. Maybe it was due to the time, but the meal and the hot springs were soaked that I was able to relax.

Asaya is a large onsen hotel rather isolated from stores, shops, and restos. Inside there are lots of them but I could not find a cup of coffee at 4:00 AM. There is free tea dispenser in the lobby. We all had access to the Premiere Club room by 6:00 AM where we could enjoy snacks and drinks and coffee. Breakfast is served for guests. We ate there and in the main dining room for one of our breakfasts. I loved their beef jerky which I took to my room to eat later. The main dining room for breakfast and dinner offered a hidden room with semi-privacy. The size of our tatami room with Premiere access was just enormous -- about as large as any hotel room I have ever had (one exception was in a Las Vegas hotel). The floor was mainly tatami mats but bamboo flooring in the bathroom and toilet rooms. The housekeeping is immaculate with daily service. There's a long queue just before dinner at 5:30. The food was delicious and plentiful with steak, crab legs, tempera, sashimi, and other seafoods. I enjoyed the soft serve.

This is my third trip/adventure to Japan. I would say as a solo traveler this has to be one of the very best places I have ever stayed in when travelling around Japan. I came to Nikko np to explore the vast array of hiking trails, all of which I did, had breathtaking views and a poetic, truly majestic Japanese feel to them. I rented a car from Nasushiobara (Shinkansen) and drove across to Kinugawa. On arrival I was greeted by a host of the hotel staff, welcoming me and helping me with parking and my bags. I checked in with ease and with some broken English and Japanese on my part was led to a beautiful traditional Japanese style room overlooking the river. The service throughout was world class and made me feel both very comfortable, at home, but also special. I stayed 3 nights with half board (breakfast and dinner), both truly amazing and served with grace and politeness. On the first evening’s dinner one of the serving staff took the time to speak with me and allowed me to share some of my recent experiences/photos etc whilst preparing dinner - this was most welcome, especially as I had been travelling alone for over a week. The location of the onsen hotel is about 60 mins drive to some of the most sought after walks in the np. Very easy to access by car and excellent roads. The accommodation itself is a mix between very traditional Japanese resort and original/boutique Ryokan. The private and public onsen’s are fantastic and a well deserved rest-bite after a long days hiking! Having been to some of the most popular ryokan’s in Japan; Iwaso, Claska etc, this came as a very nice surprise and at an affordable rate without any compromise. If in the area, I would highly recommend staying…

I went to this inn by train, but I couldn't find a good time, so I waited about two hours before I finally got to the nearest one.
The location is not in the city center, so it was a little inconvenient to take the train, but it made up for it by being able to stay in nature, which was a valuable experience. The building is quaint and the atmosphere is great. I wanted to stay one more night. In the morning, I could see a family of monkeys from the window, and I was able to spend time with a view that I don't usually see. There are no convenience stores nearby, so I bought some snacks in advance.
Next time I'd like to visit by car.

What a remarkable experience! The inability to find words speaks volumes. Everything was flawless, meeting high Western standards. Additionally, we inadvertently left a sweater in the room as we continued to Tokyo. Upon contacting the hotel, the staff were immensely helpful in resolving the issue. They efficiently arranged for the sweater to be delivered to Tokyo, saving us considerable effort and allowing us to continue our journey peacefully. The service was exceptional, especially considering that the responsibility was entirely ours. Absolutely outstanding service..

I'm glad we were able to stay at the coveted Kanaya Hotel.
The hotel's interior and the service from the hotel staff were excellent.
The hotel staff provided a tour of the hotel, explaining the hotel's history and features, as well as the famous people who have stayed there. We were able to once again appreciate just how wonderful the hotel is.
It will be a lifelong memory for my husband and I.
We hope to come and stay here again someday.

The hotel is a luxurious Ryokan in Nikko, walking distance from all the temple. The bus station is directly at the hotel, also offers a shuttle to the train station (JR and Tobu). The rooms are typically Japanese-style furnished and very spacious. The person was not overwhelming by friendship, as we have never experienced. Onsen in the hotel was genial and also the rent kimono (named Yukata) gave the whole a typical Japanese style. The food is typically Japanese including breakfast and may not everyone's thing. Whoever does not want raw fish for breakfast, maybe should book here without meals.
Nestled within Nikko National Park, our hotel offers spacious guest rooms with graceful Japanese design, showcasing serene views of Lake Chuzenji and Mount Nantai. Indulge in the local Tochigi ingredients at our restaurants and bars. Elevate your stay with the world first hot spring for the Ritz-Carlton brand, sourced from the Yumoto Onsen. Explore our activities and discover a place where nature, traditional culture, and spirituality converge.

Fantastic service and experience. Seamless check-in from the moment we were greeted at the front porch all the way being orienteered around the hotel and escorted to the hotel. Facilities immaculate, especially loved the Onsen. Information regarding our dietary requirements have been communicated well through the different teams at the hotel.

We stayed 3 nights in a large room with 4 beds, 2 adults 2 teenagers. Just be conscious that the hotel is on Lake Chuzenji which is 30 or 40 minutes out of Nikko proper, served by a regular bus that goes up and down the mountain stopping at the different lakes, waterfalls, onsens, and historical sites. Hotel has own indoor and outdoor onsen which is fantastic. The chef does a nightly 3-5 course Japanese banquet which we found a bit challenging but was amazing. Different every night. The chef made our young daughter Japanese beef curry when she was struggling with the banquet.somewhat traditional, house robe and slippers in the house and so on. Definitely worth a visit.

Jjlow123Most of the reviews are outdated so I thought I'd give an updated review. For one thing, there is WiFi (I have informed the landlady that the website indicates otherwise).
This place is a traditional-style inn. You'll be sleeping in a futon (some Google-fu should help you know how to use one), use two pairs of slippers (one for moving around the house, one exclusively for the toilet) and will also bathe in a Japanese-style shared bathroom. The front gate and bathroom close at 10pm, which is not an issue as everywhere in Nikko closes early and it's too dark to hike outdoors (in early Autumn).
We loved using the onsen to relax after a day of strolling around and hiking, and the delicious Japanese-style breakfast was lovingly prepared by a friendly old granny. The premises are old but well-maintained. Toilets, bathroom and onsen were great but we were there during off-peak season so we didn't need to share so much. Should we return to Nikko, this place will be our first choice!
TTL.TeddyWe were hosted by an elderly couple, and his family members. They were super cute, friendly and polite. It's like their small family business, ground floor was a western restaurant, second floor onwards were all the guest rooms. They know a bit of English, so the communication wise no issue at all. What we love about this stay is that other than the room with gorgeous lake view, the host was super helpful to allow us to store our luggage with them even way before our check-in timing. Furthermore he even offer to send us to the laundry shop, when we just casually ask him about the laundry. What actually surprised me the most, was that he even FETCH us from the laundry shop after we were done. Will definitely come back to this place again if I'm in Nikko! Thumbs up! Super host!! 😁
Mmdfl87My wife and I booked the Nikko Station Hotel II for April 13 - 15 as a non refundable reservation. This week, the US State Dept issued a Level 4 warning for all US citizens to avoid international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of their normal policy, the Nikko Station Hotel II made an exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issued a full refund. We will reschedule our trip to Japan after the pandemic passes and WILL DEFINITELY rebook at the Nikko Station Hotel II, as they have shown excellent customer service in a difficult time!
Nnoano87The special thing is the meal! There was a mass and a cow fin at night! The vessel was beautiful, and the dessert was beautifully colored at the end of the course dish, and the morning omelette was fluffy and the bread was very delicious. The morning dessert was decorated with an artistic cut like sitting at the bar counter and made me enjoy my eyes. The room was very clean and the bed hardness was good and I could sleep well. The owner and the staff were bright and comfortable, and the care was warm and I was able to spend very comfortably.
Mmind_blowingLocated by the Chuzenji Lake, diagonally opposite the cruise ship terminal, it is a mixture of a B&B, a youth hostel and a hotel. There are Japanese-style rooms, twin rooms, and individual bunks. There is an open-air hot spring with a strong smell of sulfur. My body feels slippery after soaking. The room I booked comes with two meals, a combination of Japanese and Western styles. The portions are not large, and I was only eight-tenths full after eating. There is nothing around at night. It is recommended to bring a cup of noodles if you are afraid of being hungry. Checking in requires you to toss on the tablet yourself, which is cumbersome! It is recommended to ask the staff to help!
HHoSVery old school ryokan run by very friendly who has been working there for many years. Your name will be displayed on the board next to the entrance of the ryokan to show that they were currently welcoming these guests staying at the ryokan! We stayed there for 2 nights with free parking and we didn’t have to drive anywhere until we checked out as the ryokan is within walking distance to the 3 major world heritage listed shrines including The Toshogu Palace.
Avoid room 312 or 313 (which we stayed) which are the smallest rooms. Those rooms in the middle parts are bigger and more comfortable. Do ask for any room facing the back of the ryokan and avoid those facing the front where you only see car parks with coaches coming in the morning bringing tourists to the shrines.
The onsite Onsen for ryokan guests, breakfasts and dinners are the highlights. You’d love the traditional Japanese meals served there and you won’t be hungry.
Would I come back to this ryokan again? Yes definitely due to its location and friendly staff.
Hhappy-cThe room is quite large, the beds are all large double beds, the tables, chairs and sofas are also very good, there are also projectors and TVs, the kitchen is also fully equipped, including a microwave, induction cooker, and cooking utensils, so you can cook by yourself. The whole room is a big open space The room has no partitions and is not suitable for those who need privacy. Those who live on the first floor may face the noise from residents walking on the second floor. The hotel is located next to the highway, next to a small village, about a quarter of an hour's walk from Tobu Nikko Station. Although the road is not long, it is not very smooth. There is a 7-11 and a larger supermarket within three minutes. There is no front desk, check-in requires self-service, and the room has a password lock. Remember that you cannot check in before three o'clock and you cannot store your luggage. Your luggage can be stored at the station. It cost 5,100 RMB to stay for three days. The black house at the end of the video is the hotel.
YYuelingyaoThe hotel is right next to Yuno Lake, and the surrounding scenery is very nice👍. You can see my attached picture. The hotel's hot spring is a sulfur hot spring, which feels better than the sulfur in Noboribetsu. Points to complain about: 1. There are not enough varieties for dinner and breakfast (compared to other hot spring hotels I have visited before). 2. I feel that many staff members are from Southeast Asia and their Japanese skills are not very proficient, but communication is still no problem if they say the same sentence several times. 3. The hot spring hours are 15-24 o'clock and 5-9 o'clock every day. The hot spring bathing time in most hot spring hotels is usually until 3 am. It was already 24:10 when we returned to the hotel after going out for errands on the second night. We were so tired that we really wanted to take a bath, but it happened to be closed, which was a pity. In conclusion, the hotel is very good. You can consider this hotel next time you go there.
GGuest UserThe hotel is located on top of the hill, is not very convenient to get there. The shuttle bus from Nikko station is fully booked even we tried to book 1 day in advance as recommended on their website which only written in Japanese. There is no shuttle provided to pick up from the hotel bus stop. With luggage it’s definitely more than 7min up hill walk. The room we book comes with an open air bath, but was informed that the open air bath in room cannot be use during winter due to frozen pipe condition. The food is mediocre, nothing special.
Sscottpearce94For reference we stayed in the Standard Dormitory. There are 2 rooms, 8 beds in each that share 2 toilets, a single sink, a single shower and a small kitchen. The bathrooms, kitchen, and shower were always clean. However, the kitchen only has a microwave and some plates, bowels and a few cups. There is no stove top to cook anything and there is no oven to use. You’re limited to microwave meals or eating out. If you’re on a budget and only plan on staying a single night then this is a great place. Any more nights and I would recommend finding another place. The staff a friendly and speak great English.
