Nikko Kanaya Hotel

📍 1300 Kamihatsuishimachi, Nikko
★★★★★ 9.0 (95 reviews)

"This was a truly lovely hotel with a wonderful atmosphere. Every corner was picturesque. I highly recommend joining the guided tour of the building. The entire hotel is well-heated, so light clothing is perfectly fine. The food was delicious too. My only minor disappointment was the lack of a hot spring or a large public bath."

"Having read both the good and bad reviews, I visited with mixed expectations and trepidation. I figured a few things would be ok, considering the price included two meals and it was a weekend during the autumn foliage season, but I was pleasantly surprised. The owner's service was simply wonderful. He was polite, kind, and humorous, and he even gave me information about traffic congestion and recommended local spots. The hotel itself wasn't new, but it was well-maintained, and there was an open-air bath in my room, so although I didn't try out the outdoor baths, the bath was nice. The only problem I had was that I had to walk up and down quite a few stairs to get to my room, and wearing slippers and socks made it difficult to walk. All the food was delicious, too. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again if I visit Nikko."

📍 3-1 Aioicho, Nikko
★★★ 8.9 (173 reviews)

"Location: Fantastic! Both train stations and the bus terminal are within sight, making transportation incredibly convenient. There's a large supermarket about 600-700 meters away, which is great for groceries. Room: The triple room isn't small, and the beds are comfortably firm. The heating in the room was a bit strong, and a humidifier would have been nice. Amenities: You can pick up various toiletries at the front desk. On the first floor, there's a self-service coffee and tea bar, which is lovely for relaxing with a drink and enjoying the view after a day out. The hot spring has both indoor and outdoor pools, but there are only five showers. If you go during off-peak hours, it's not crowded. The large public bath only has a hairdryer, no lotions or anything else. Breakfast: The menu changes daily. While not super extensive, the overall quality is excellent. The Japanese curry rice is delicious, and the bread is also good."

"Pleasant stay. Hotel is kind of near top of the hill. There’s a pantry by the lobby and also a dining table. Coffee bean machine which is great. There is no restaurant for breakfast. Have to use coupon to redeem breakfast from reception. Japanese breakfast, cold. But there is a food truck outside the hotel which is convenient for hot breakfast like toast. So far room is cozy and water shower pressure is good. Some stains on the wall in the toilet."

"While we opted for a room-only plan this time, we would absolutely love to book a stay with breakfast and dinner included on our next visit. Despite it being a room-only booking, the location was superb, and our entire family had a truly wonderful time. Thank you very much."

"The hotel is great and very convenient, just a two or three-minute walk to the JR station. On the first day, I got bitten by mountain leeches while visiting the World Heritage temple complex. Thankfully, the front desk gave me medicine to apply and bandages to stop the bleeding. I'm very grateful for the hotel's help. On the second day, you can walk to Chuzenji Onsen and climb Mount Nantai, which takes about 6 hours round trip. It's the third-highest mountain in the Kanto region, so if you enjoy hiking, you should definitely give it a try."

The Pageant ★★★
"The room is large and very quiet, with an outdoor hot spring; it's a resort cabin. Highly recommended for independent travelers visiting Toshogu Shrine, but the location is a bit far from the station. A taxi ride takes 8 minutes and costs 1700 yen. There are no shops nearby. The owner offers a free shuttle service. There's a phone booth near the station for making calls. There's a large fresh food market near the station where you can buy groceries before checking in; a refrigerator and microwave are available."

"Looks like a brand new hotel! You can use the kitchen on the ground floor - coffee machine, oven, micro wave, ice, and a table to eat. Just didn’t like the bathing area with see through glass door."

Nikko Senhime Monogatari ★★★★
"The hot spring was just okay, pretty standard. Cleanliness was a major concern for me; the bed sheets felt quite grimy, possibly due to the high humidity. On the bright side, the location was excellent: attractions were within walking distance, and a bus stop right outside made sightseeing incredibly convenient. I might be overthinking it, but both the room I was assigned and the dining spot we were given weren't particularly great. As for the included breakfast and dinner, they offered poor value for money and simply couldn't compare to meals at other hot spring hotels I've stayed at – I didn't even feel like taking any photos!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Nikko Station Hotel. Its location was excellent, just a short 5-minute walk from Nikko Station, making it very convenient for exploring the area. The room was comfortable, and I appreciated the thoughtful recommendations provided in the lobby, which were helpful for planning my visit. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and always willing to assist. One pleasant surprise was the complimentary breakfast, which I had not expected and was a great way to start the day. Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay that exceeded my expectations. I would happily stay here again on a future visit to Nikko."

Rakuten STAY Nikko Hoden ★★★★
"Do not ever stay in this hotel! I will give 0 star if 0 is available. 1stly, the hotel is far from station and the surroundings are in pitch dark if you check in abit later or go out to eat dinner. There is practically nothing in the vicinity. Super super unsafe. Secondly, the check-in is a big joke. Tried the given PIN number, didn’t work. Had to call the hotel hotline, got the PIN number, also didn’t work. And they expect us to stand there in pitch dark to wait to retry again. Seeing how unsafe the vicinity is, we gave up n went to check in another hotel, Nikko Park Lodge Hotel - abit old but just opposite the station, so convenient. Sorry but Rakuten stay is huge no no."

Kinugawa Onsen Hotel ★★★★
"A family trip, parents and children. Kinugawa is a declining hot spring town. It became popular after Tobu opened the train. I chose this place at night when I was traveling to Nikko. The hotel is a little far from Tobu Kinugawa Station, and it takes more than 20 minutes to walk. It is recommended to take the bus next to the station if you are traveling with children, the elderly or large suitcases. The hotel dinner is buffet style, and drinks are charged separately. The men's and women's baths are switched in the morning and evening. The open-air baths also do not offer views of the outside. The room size is OK, enough for children. A standard hot spring hotel."
