We were three friends looking for a peaceful place to stay in Niagara on the Lake after our wine tour and my friend said "I found the perfect place." And DID SHE! The South Landing Inn is, indeed, the perfect place to unwind for any reason. We had Room 6, the upstairs suite, and it was right out of a Hallmark movie. Spacious and homey--we loved that it wasn't super posh, it was thoughtfully decorated and cared for so we weren't afraid to actually live in it. We really just moved right in. Staff were incredibly kind, accommodating, and generous with their time helping us figure out our plans. And then there was the upscale continental breakfast! I wish I had a photo, but I was too busy eating. The pastries took me to France, emotionally. Everything was fantastic, hearty, beautiful, and simple (except for the exquisite pastries), and they are happy to cater to a variety of dietary needs every day, and especially if you give them a few days notice. And I have to talk about the tea situation. As a tea drinker, my expectations of a cup of tea outside of my own house are low, but especially when staying overnight at a hotel or similar. The South Landing Inn's tea service blew me away in the best possible way. The guest pantry on the main floor has personal glass tea pots that you can brew a delightful small pot of one of their lovely loose leaf teas and take it back to your room--the suite also had an electric kettle which was a delightful surprise (and there were small tea pots and some loose leaf tea in a drawer in the suite as well, I just had to go downstairs for some milk). And the provided mugs are just right. One thing that's particularly noteworthy in this day in electronics: the inn is so close to the border that my phone kept thinking I was in the US, and the cell signal wasn't great when my phone knew I was still in Canada. And the wifi wasn't hugely robust either, and you know what that meant? We watched FRIENDS rereuns on the tv, drank tea and chatted and just completely disconnected. It was truly a vacation. After booking I found out that a friend of mine books writing retreats here, and now I know why! Our only regret was that we only booked one night. I already can't wait to go back. We're staying at least 3 nights next time.
