Residence Inn Newport News Airport

The reviews I read raved about this hotel. Based on my experience, I wouldn't refer to this as exceptional. It was ok but I will personally not choose this one again in this star and price category. The lobby was nice and clean and the breakfast was AMAZING with lots of options including for food allergies. The room was ok but lacked a bit in feeling fresh and clean. No major issues but some hairs on bathroom floor and some stains on comforter (which I wish NO hotel would use without a duvet, we're basically sleeping in other people's fluids unless they're washed after every visit which I assume no hotel does....). The coffee maker did not work and the toilet was running all night. We just needed somewhere to sleep so we ignored these issues and notified the hotel in the morning. No apologies for anything reported but overall polite staff interactions, nothing overly welcoming. Overall, an ok place to stay if you just need a place to put down your head and enjoy a large breakfast buffet. But for the price, I would personally choose a different hotel.

Worst stay I've had at ANY Marriott hotel. . . I have stayed here in the past and this place has gone down. Lobby was clean, check in was smooth, front desk employees seemed helpful. . . Checked in on December 2nd for a 3 night stay, ROOM 430. After unpacking I saw a roach. . . killed it. Then a few minutes later saw 2 more. If I wasn't so tired I would have packed up and left right then and there. About an hour after in the room, my allergies started flaring up and it got worse throughout the night. Finally turned off the HVAC fan and things were a little better. Woke up about 4am after not being able to sleep well to begin packing again to checkout. Just happened to look inside the HVAC intake and it was caped with dust (no wonder my allergies were acting up). Check out, the front desk receptionist seemed to be surprised of my complaint and told me she would let the GM know when when gets in on Monday, December 3rd. I paid with points so, my unused points for the remaining 2 nights were credited back. . . No issue there. About 30 minutes after leaving the property, the receptionists called and informed me that she has spoken with the GM and that they were going to credit me back my points for the first night. Well, here we are 2 weeks later and nothing. Save yourself some trouble and find somewhere else to stay.

I have been coming to this hotel since it was about new on business multiple times a year. It has aged a little but is still a great place to stay on business. Quiet, Clean, Comfy Beds, Friendly Staff, and a Nice Breakfast. Recently I switched to Embassy Suites since this Residence Inn stopped their happy/social hour but that hotel was booked so my partners and I stayed at the Residence Inn this time. We all found it to be a great choice for a last-minute trip but really mis the evening cocktail reception. (I did sneak over to the Courtyard to take advantage of their bar but the free light snack and wine were great in the past at the Residence Inn). We stayed on a Friday and I know it is only on some week days but please bring it back like it was before covid. Otherwise I have no complaints and would stay here again and even prefer this hotel over most other brands.

Three adult guest for a three night stay. We received no room service of any kind during the entire stay. Advised by front desk that a seven night stay is required to have housekeeping. -The room had just two very small wastebaskets. We were told we could get replacement bags from the front desk and empty our own trash leaving the full bags in the hallway for removal. -We were required to pick up our clean towels from the front desk. By the time of check-out, we had a mound of dirty towels in the small bathroom. -Upon entering and exiting the hotel, the front desk was never manned. Occasionally a staff member would appear from the back area if we stopped at the desk. Other times we waited for the employee to return to the desk from elsewhere. -Rates for this stay were through the roof. It is hardly guest/Bonvoy member friendly to charge such increased rates and then require guests to service their rooms themselves. Not the type of service we expect from a Marriott property, very disappointing.

The roaches are in the kitchen in the silverware drawer, in the bathrooms, crawling in my beverage that was sitting on the nite stand next to the bed and WORSE discovered one in my purse as I was shaking everything out to avoid carrying those nasty things to my next hotel. Additionally, ants were in the dishwasher! Yes front desk was told! They said oh we could have moved you to another room. WHY? I saw 1 roach when I stayed at the same hotel in Oct 2022 for 10days. Thought it was an isolated event because it was just the one under the sink; clearly things have gone down hill. White long strand dog hair was all over the chair in the tv area. Seems that $100 pet deposit isn't for cleaning the room after the pet departs. That could've easily been vacummed.

This is a incredible hotel, in a great location, with great employees! The atrium is amazing. The hotel has a nice quiet heated indoor pool and a gym. As for the room, immaculate. Very clean, multiple televisions, a great shower, and comfortable all the way around. This is right next to the Newport News airport but the hotel is very quiet and you don't hear airplanes taking off. If you're in the area, by all means go here! I have stayed here multiple times and will come back again. They even gave me a nice upgrade to a room with a oven so my daughter and myself could make frozen pizzas, her favorite. To the manager, please apologize to the breakfast crew for my daughter spilling froot loops all over. LOL They were on top of it before I even had a chance to clean it up.

Linda J was a dream to work with! She made sure that our rooms were very close together and even remembered us the next day! She came over and chatted with us for a few minutes while we were having our coffee!

I held back a few weeks before I posted this, but now I feel I have to share my story with others. I stay here for one-night because I need a place to stay because I knew I was going to be on the road for over 9 hours and I need a place to sleep before I started another business trip. I came in after 1am in the morning and went right to bed. 8 hours later I grabbed a shower and headed out. Later that day I checked into another Marriott 500 feet next to this property. I went to my room and realized that my bathroom bag was missing. I called this hotel and asked if my bag was turned in. I was told no. How could that be, I checked out at 930 am and the checked in at 5pm next door. We all know the rooms are usually cleaned by 4pm in most hotels. So in the matter of 9 hours. My bathroom bag should have been sitting in that room. But No one could find it. Seriously? I left it there, I traveled 500 feet next door. My luggage did not leave my car all day. So when I called back the next the manager told me she spoke to everyone and no one saw my bag. Plain and simple, I would not leave this lengthy review if there was not a good reason. In that bag was a brand new of Designer Eyeglasses and a Gold Engraved Ring that belonged to my father, he passed away few months ago. So now, everyone at the hotel is not answering questions and just telling me they could not find it. Someone is lying and know I am considering reaching out to the local police and local media outlets. I don't care about the glasses and all the other stuff I had to replace, but the ring meant so much to me and of course my family. The property and its staff can not be trusted. Be careful and try not to leave anything behind, because you most likely will never get it back
