From walking through the door felt very welcome , staff are very friendly , one young lady ( Maddy ) was so funny and entertaining not just with us with other customers aswell , food was lovely , all in all an amazing experience , will defo revisit

We went for a family meal and was quite a large booking. We were given excellent service. All the food come out in great time and was hot. The portions were generous sizes. All the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They were really patient while we all sat and chatted between the mains and deserts. They were great with the children. Would really recommend as a great place to dine.

We stopped in room 2 buttercup. Absolutely appalling. The carpet ajoining the bathroom was soaking wet. To my horror when taking the sheets off, the matress protector had body fluids stains on it. Told Luke the staff member and he said I will buy another. Then proceeded to charge for an extra night. So pleased we checked the web page before leaving, a refund was sort. The taps on the bath were loose. Luke said there was indeed a leak that had tried to be repaired. Obviously not. Why was this room let out if it was substandard. Fortunately only stayed 2 nights. The food although a little pricey was on the whole good. Breakfast had to find a member of staff then took ages to be served. Staff were pleasant but the accommadation leaves less to be desired.

The carpenters arms is seriously *******. That's why the tenants don't stay long. I knew a previous landlord. M Lowes his younger children had lengthy conversations with ghosts of previous tents (1800s)

Best Hotel when staying or doing business in Newbury Just on outskirts - very friendly and also dog friendly which always goes down well with me This pub does seem to change hands a lot and I mean lot - not sure why? Only thing lacking is a good cooked breakfast but good atmosphere in evenings does make up for this

Fantastic one night stay here. Close proximity to highclere castle. Room was lovely and comfortable. Little extras for Valentine’s Day. Nothing was too much trouble. Emma was a fantastic host. Food in the restaurant was beautiful and breakfast from Lewis was the best we’ve ever had (and we run a restaurant!) Would not hesitate to come back. Brilliant job by all. Many thanks. Our second trip to this lovely pub, a great place for our family to meet up, have a lovely meal and catch up. Made all the more special by the attentive service provided by the staff. So thank you once again, hope to make outr third visit very soon.

The staff and food are amazing. The rooms are all individual in theme and the amenities are great. Booked for a special birthday weekend to Newbury races. Nothing is too much trouble including fetching the daily papers . Thank you all . Would definitely stay again.

Lovely personable staff great service and good food sensibly priced. Will return again for Sunday lunch and a drink any time. Did get a little cold in the restaurant I think they turned the heating down which was a shame. But overall well worth a visit.
