Hydra ( pronounced Eedra) is a fantastic place to spend a relaxing few days . DOUSKOS port house is a wonderful location . We stayed in a junior suite ( room 1) and the view over the port was spectacular . Just what we wanted . You definitely stay here for the location and the views . The room was simple and comfortable but not luxury . Bed small and quite hard but there is also a sofa bed in the room if you need more space . Shower room is basic but fine . There’s a sink , coffee machine and under counter fridge which is useful . There is free bottled water but you need to ask for it . Breakfast is served on the roof and it’s a great spot . Breakfast basic but good and you can choose as much as you like from the menu . You can also sit up there during the day and there are big umbrellas shade . The staff were great - Angelega, Julietta and Fofo were fab and happily tried to teach us Greek each morning !! The downsides ? 1 . Tell visitors that access to the hotel is only by flights of irregular and very steep steps ( one set without handrail) . Trying to carry luggage is almost impossible and would be for anyone aged or with the slightest mobility issue . However you can get a porter at the ferry to assist ( approx 20 euros ) . We only found this out after a very difficult experience . It would be great if hotel told you in advance so you were prepared and perhaps even arranged a porter to meet you at the ferry . We booked a porter at hotel for the return to the ferry and it made life so much easier and stress free . Also , don’t be misled by the stars de from the ferry to the hotel . We were told by the hotel when we contacted them before arrival that it was “ a few metres from the ferry “ . It’s not . It’s a 5-10 minute walk around the port on a flat level but cobbled street ( not great for luggage in wheels) , past lots of restaurants and people . Again , get a porter or manage your expectations. That being said , we solved the only real issue and next time it would not be a problem . Hopefully knowing this may save you a little stress ! Would strongly recommend the island and the hotel . Ps the walk to Mandraki is not 29 minutes , nor is it 1 km . Do not be told otherwise ! It’s 2.3km each way , with some steep inclines . It’s stunning and do it if you can , but again it’s good to know in advance so you can gauge if it’s something you can do . The Mandraki hotel ( which owns the only Sandy beach on the island ) shut last week for winter . So no water shuttle either . Sadly no one told us that so we didn’t get s swim but the walk was great . A little better communication all round would make this trip perfect !!

We booked 3 rooms for my family and friends. Pros: very centrally located, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, spacious rooms, modern bathrooms Cons: nothing special about the room, cleanliness left a lot to be desired, one of the rooms facing on the road had a lot of noise that wasn't blocked by the closed windows.

The Douskos Port House is the perfect complement to the mystique of Hydra. The view from our room of the port was spectacular and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Our delicious breakfast was served on the roof top garden of the hotel with an amazing view.

I booked for a stay next year on *********** stating that my booking could be cancelled until a few days before coming free of charge. Then, I noticed today that they had charged my bank account immediately, which was not informed to me. This was done in Euro even though on *********** the amount was presented in Norwegian Kroner. It is also not common at *********** to charge immediately when they state “free cancellation”. Then, when I cancelled I got back 400 Nok less than I paid, probably because of currency fluctuation. Not very trasparent by the hotel and *********** ☹️

We stayed in a room on the 2nd (3rd/USA) floor with lovely views of the harbor out of two generous casement windows. We loved the view of the busy waterfront and kept the windows open all night because we loved to hear all the sounds from below. The room was clean, spacious and modern with all amenities. We chose hotel due to location on the waterfront (cuz I didn't want to haul bags up the hillside or deal with the charming donkeys) but one must still schlepp luggage up 3 flights of steep stairs. We found the reception was friendly & helpful and appreciated dinner reservations they made for us. Deducted one star because, like others, we thought the breakfast was extremely bland, minimal, and not really adequate, esp compared to the many others we've had included with our stays throughout Greece. The views were lovely, but they need to up the game with breakfast. Still, we didn't come for the breakfast and I would stay in hotel again (same room) and recommend this hotel to others

Unforgettable stay the weekend of May 1st. The view of the harbor from the roof terrace is magnificent. High quality and plentiful breakfast. Very clean rooms, decorated with care. Very warm atmosphere, very efficient and discreet staff. A special mention to Basil who was perfect from the moment we arrived. He was able to convey his passion for Hydra to us while speaking French perfectly. We really hope to be able to return to Douskos! Jean-Luc and Camille

The accommodation has as many advantages as disadvantages: The location is central above the harbor, the roof terrace is great, offers a great view and shade. The breakfast is generous and the staff friendly. Checkout by 12:00. But our standard room (No. 6) was very small and the bathroom was a maximum of 3 square meters. There was also a smell in the bathroom, perhaps the exhaust system is not working properly. You have to go up and down steep stairs to get to the accommodation, which could be difficult for older people and possibly also for children?

Best view on the island! We arrived and were very well treated by the magnificent Valiseo, with a fun mood and friendliness he led us to the charming room. But the biggest surprise was going up to the terrace and having the best breakfast with the best view. All dishes are freshly prepared by a capricious cook and served with joy by Theodora who patiently taught us some words in Greek that we used a lot on the other days of the trip. Unmissable place! I just have to be grateful for the days I spent there! I'm in love with the island, and when I return, I will certainly stay at this hotel again! Aaah and don't forget to use the massage chair!

This small hotel located in the port of Hydra is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms are very comfortable, the location is ideal and the breakfast is fantastic. But the real difference is the staff and the manager. They are all super friendly and super helpful. They really make you feel that you are visiting friends, not just staying in a hotel.
