The luxurious 38-roomed Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is a graceful landmark, built in 1846, overlooking Santos Bay and the harbor. 20 min drive to the airport and halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Nestling on the Mossel Bay shoreline with the majestic Outeniqua mountains as a backdrop, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is singled out from other establishments. The stone walls and Mediterranean-style out-buildings belie the fact that the main building is one of the oldest in Mossel Bay and forms part of the Dias Museum Complex. Previously The Old Post Office Tree Manor Hotel, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, situated off Santos beach, could best be described as a hotel complex. It comprises of a breakfast patio with sea view and Cafe Gannet Seafood Restaurant - "Mossel Bay's Seafood House", overlooking the Bay and Outeniqua Mountains . The Blue Oyster cocktail bar, adjacent to the pool, overlooks Santos Bay.Show More

The location is very good The waiters are very attentive But maybe the room next to the old wing where I stayed was very noisy when taking a shower and the exhaust fan in the room was very loud. These improvements will be made in the future.

The service is average, the location is good, and the parking space is outside on the roadside. There were allegedly hotel security guards watching. There are still four-star standards.

The location of the hotel is very good, next to the sea, there is a beach Free security at the entrance of the parking lot. There are supermarkets around. Pay attention to the business hours. When we arrived, it was Sunday and most shops were closed. The room is clean, but the washbasin is separated from the hot and cold water. I'm not used to it~ If you don't care about the money, it's better to book a balcony with a sea view The breakfast selection is also very rich. We had curry chicken that day Next to the hotel is a museum of the first Portuguese to land here There's a lighthouse a few kilometers away

Mossel Bay town is okay to stop off en route from Wine country to the garden route. It’s also 45 minutes from Oudtshoorn. This hotel is a gem, great staff and excellent rooms. We had 331 lovely outside chalet feel overlooking the bay. The Hotel is effectively a business style city centre place but it’s better than that. It actually houses its own gin distillery and offers tours. The restaurant offers good sushi, so we put the two together and had gin pairing with sushi !!! The staff in restaurants and bars are friendly and service is excellent. Dinner was good 4/5. This is an underrated hotel !

THe Hotel has an awesome location and wonderful views. We had a family suite which had an even better view. Very large room furnished tastefully. The Hotel has one restaurant Cafe Gannet. Breakfast was Average. Not much for Vegetarians. Staff is quite good. A very good place to stay on the Garden Route.

This was a perfect stopover as we started driving the Garden Route . Choose a sea facing room for a beautiful ocean view and sunset . Room is comfortable ( bed and duvet very good) , but a few things need attention ( hairdryer old and sticky , bath plug not working , bright light on air con lighting up room ) . But all fairly minor . Breakfast was ok ( buffet style but a little tired ) . We were asked 4 times for room number ?! Reception staff were very helpful . We walked a few minutes to the wharf for a seafood dinner on the water - basic but fun and the sunset spectacular . Having driven around Mossel Bay , I think this is the best option if you’re looking for a great location , view and comfortable stay .

Tourist hotel, which is also booked by larger tour groups. Lots of German holidaymakers. Parking spaces directly at the hotel, which are however publicly accessible. We had a room with a view of the harbor. Due to a friendly upgrade, we were given a kind of apartment over 2 floors. This type of room is not recommended for older people or people with mobility restrictions. Modern furnishings, two balconies with seating. Unfortunately, the room was close to a busy road to the harbor, so the balcony was not inviting for sitting. Large bathroom with bathtub and large shower. The hotel has a beautifully landscaped garden with a pool and loungers. The service was quite varied. During two overnight stays, we were unable to get the right number of towels in the bathroom, despite repeated friendly requests. In the restaurant, we were always served in a friendly and competent manner. A large, varied buffet is set up for breakfast, and there is also the option of having various hot dishes freshly prepared. The music, which was always a bit too loud and seemed to repeat itself morning and evening, was a bit annoying. The gin distillery operated on site is very interesting. You can visit them, produce your own gin and even book a gin tasting.

By far the best Protea Hotel on our trip along the Garden Route. The hotel is located a little above the (industrial) harbor. If you walk towards the harbor and make a detour to the left, you will come to a few very nice beach restaurants where you can eat well. A little further to the left is a beautiful stretch of beach that invites you to run or swim. Otherwise, there are many other shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel itself is nicely laid out and offers a few nice corners to linger. Be it by the pool, in the bar or on the restaurant terrace. All in all, we felt very comfortable. The extremely good recognition of our status with Marriott played a major role in this. This and the extremely friendly staff at reception are the reason for the 5*. We received a generous room upgrade to a suite, parking was free for us and we were able to enjoy dinner including drinks at half price in the hotel restaurant. We would especially like to thank Peter. He was our "shadow". We checked in and checked out with him, he brought our suitcases to the room and was there for us from time to time. But all the other colleagues at reception were also very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was OK. The other service was good too. The housekeeping was a bit strange. Towels were taken out of the room in the morning and not brought back until the afternoon. We can recommend the hotel.
