When travelling in South Africa you get spoilt with fantastic places to stay at very reasonable prices. The top of the Sani Pass in Lesotho does not keep to the standard you get used to. There are three places to say in the area – we chose & booked Sani Stone Lodge before we left home. I think we got the best value for money from the three. Its all about location, Sani Stone Lodge is about ½ an hour drive from the tar road, and you need a 4x4 – but if you drove up the pass you will have one. You can not see any other human life from the lodge – its remote – the remoteness is fantastic – made all the better because we were the only people staying. We were provided firewood for the fire in our rondavel, 3 pieces – was asked for extra and felt lucky to get 2 more. If we had know we would have brought our own with us. The rondavel was a little musty but otherwise basic & comfortable. There is a restaurant, and the lady that looks after the place made us tea. If you enjoy monotremes, isolation and scenery this is the place to go – the fact its otherwise expensive you soon get over. If you want lots of comfort and facility (WiFi, Phone) its unlikely you will enjoy Sani Stone Lodge.
