Croatia is stunning, the area very pretty, we had lovely visits to Dubrovnik and Cavtat, Lokrum Island etc, all easy by boat and or bus. Easy and quick transfer from the airport. However the hotel sadly, fell short of our expectations. There were obvious signs it had been hastily made ready for guests, after it's renovation. Ceilings and paintwork in the bathroom were not finished, all the lamps in the room had not even been plugged in, their cords still folded and wired together as new. So not pat tested. This would just be illegal in the Uk, not sure about Croatian law. My daughter tripped on an uneven path that hadn't been properly finished, hurt her toe and fainted on our last morning! Not good at all! Air conditioning in rooms is not fit for purpose. When it's 35 degrees outside you need your room to be a sanctuary away from the heat. It was not. The lowest temperature you could set it to was 20 degrees, however, it might have been that temperature literally sat on top of the unit, but the air did not spread across the room, partly as it was a unit low down rather than on the ceiling like everywhere else. The corridor outside was cool, why couldn't we have had that temperature instead of wasting energy cooling a corridor?! It was boiling at night. I had to resort to using a wet towel over me rather than a sheet or duvet! Never known anything like it! Meals, we went half board. Breakfast was total chaos, the hotel has space and the facility to offer two buffet sections, thus spreading the guests out, instead everyone, in the fully booked 307 room hotel were trying to serve themselves in a very small space. I've never seen such a chaotic buffet area! Also the staff were just not on top of it. Milk next to the coffee machines, often left empty, just no reason. Simple service lacking. I saw one senior member of the team, an older lady practically shouting at a guest for simply trying to fill her water bottle at the water and juice machine. There was no where to fill water bottles apart from the tap in your room, and you would have to refrigerate this for a while to make it cold. It's just water, why so angry!? Create a facility for free water! Dinner, just ok, very samey every night. Desserts were very poor, lots of random cakes, no labels, some of which literally tasted of nothing. They also refused to serve tap water at dinner, you were forced to buy mineral. Although we just brought a bottle of tap water every night and filled our glasses. Just basic again to have tap water available with dinner. But it made us feel awkward doing this, for no reason. Pool, there was a small children's pool, but hardly any kids used it, meaning the main pool was constantly full of kids and adults playing with balls, the rules clearly state no balls, but there was no enforcement of this, so you couldn't swim without being in the middle of someone's game. On route into the hotel one afternoon we saw a table tennis table with paddles and ball out,
