I’m slightly embarrassed to say that this was our sixth visit to Milaidhoo. It’s not that we are deeply unadventurous (maybe a bit) or that we don’t try other places (we do), it’s just that this little island continues to be the best place we’ve ever stayed. We will be coming back until one of us has to be wheeled onto the sea plane. For this review, I tried to think about what was really outstanding about our trip. And it’s probably the same stuff that was outstanding last time, and the time before that. But it merits repeating because it’s soooooo good. 1. Snorkelling. We snorkel from villa 204, heading out to the buoy and then turn left along the reef. The visibility and quantity of fish varies, of course, but on a good day the snorkelling off this island is mesmerising. We saw shoals of banner fish, a school of parrot fish, fusiliers, yellow fish I didn’t recognise (about a billion of them) and a turtle almost every day. It is breathtaking. I’ve literally never seen anything like it. It’s like swimming in an aquarium. 2. People. The team on this island are the nicest group of people you’ll ever come across and their service ethic just cannot be matched. Anywhere. Six years ago, I mentioned that I didn’t much like tomatoes and, in the intervening period, I’ve never seen a tomato again. They remember all of our (weird) preferences and literally everything we need is already in the room before we arrive. The service is so good that it ruins us for everywhere else we stay. 3. Food. Even Ocean, badged as the ‘everyday restaurant’ is outstanding. The food quality is unsurpassed and every evening is a special occasion. Ba’theli is beautiful (the setting is amazing), Shoreline is world class and breakfast is a feast to behold. The quality of the food has always been good but the ongoing consistency is a credit to the new chef, Lakshitha, who we met and loved. And, of course, there is Murey, heading up the F&B team. The effort Murey goes to in order to surprise and delight is quite extraordinary. He checked on us every day, every meal, made sure all of our (ok, my) little quirks were dealt with and delighted by creating some special food offerings for us. He is, frankly, just brilliant and we love him. 4. Rooms. Just fabulous. We were jn beach villa 202. Some people don’t like it as it’s closer to the jetty but we like the beach, the afternoon sun and the proximity to the snorkelling point. For ten days we only bathed inside once and that was in our lovely Valentine’s petal bath (thanks Hussy ❤️) 5. Butler. We don’t usually use the services of a butler in hotels we visit but we definitely do in Milaidhoo. Abdulla had the audacity to take a holiday (outrageous) so we were looked after by Hussy this time. Wow. Every text was responded to in less than a minute! 😲 Our entire trip was made totally seamless and a few beautiful surprises were created along the way. Hussy is efficient, charming, respectful, fun and organised. We could not have asked
