TRH Tirant Playa

TRH Tirant Playa

📍 Carrer de Monlemar, s/n, Platges de Fornells, Area Metropolitana de Mao
★★★★ 8.2 (43 reviews)

"Lovely, staff, nice apartment, food nice, but not a great selection, but absolutely boring at night, with no entertainment whatsoever, one supermarket,so they could charge what they want, not enough sunbeds on the beach by far, other beach out of range, for anyone with mobility issues, apart from that stunning views, but absolutely needed entertainment at night for adults,if you want a really quiet holiday this is the place for you."

Hostal la Isla

Hostal la Isla

📍 Carrer de Santa Caterina, 4, Mahon
★★★ 8.9 (57 reviews)

"Wow what a great find! We landed at the airport late so thought we would spend the first night in Mahon in cheaper accommodation. We had quite low expectations what with it being described as a 1 star hostel on ******* but oh my what a gem! Check in was quick. The hotel and room was really chic and modern. The room was on the small side but plenty big enough for just the two of us. The bed was really comfy with white crisp sheets. We had a view out to the stress with a window and shutters and the air conditioning was amazing! The shower and toilet were really modern and the shower was quite large and was great! There was a shower gel dispenser in the shower along with bath and hand towels provided. The location of the hostel is perfect as you take a stroll down the road and down the steps take you onto the main Mahon harbour which was bustling on a random Wednesday evening when we arrived. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to chose from. There is a cafe linked to the hostel where we grabbed some coffees in the morning before taking a walk up to the centre of Mahon where we caught a bus to Cituadella from the bus station. There are plenty of shops and cafes and interesting buildings and statues on the walk up to the city centre area as well as a Thursday morning market. Check out isn’t until 12 noon which is great as we hate having to rush out first thing. There are places to park on the side streets. We took a taxi from the airport and it cost around €12. We are considering menorca again for next year and would stay here again and for longer next time!"

Hotel Loar Ferreries

Hotel Loar Ferreries

📍 Carrer Beat Joan Huguet, 1, Ferreries
★★★ 8.9 (12 reviews)

"Loar has three kinds of accommodation - hotel/suites in one building and apartments and studios is the adjoining building. The buildings are seamless on he ground floor but separate lifts service the two buildings. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which has a balcony big enough for two chairs so great for looking at the comings and goings of locals and their families and what was going on in the square. The 12 apartments have outward facing balconies whereas the studios face the rear. I think it is worth the extra cost to have an apartment as we spent a fair amount of time just enjoying the atmosphere of the town. I don't know about the hotel rooms as we much prefer the space of an apartment and the flexibility to cook our own meals and snacks. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The highlight was the roof terrace with views, loungers, lovely pool and jacuzzi. There is also an indoor heated pool which was a bit awkward to access as unless the restaurant was open the only way in was via a spiral fire escape. Being able to choose which pool you fancied was a real treat and we mostly had the roof terrace to ourselves. The town itself had no real must-sees for tourists but it was a convenient base to explore the island. Although Loar does not offer parking we always found a space within a few minutes' walk. There are enough places to eat and drink with three decent sized supermarkets, a butcher and fishmonger if you wanted to cook. The apartment facilities made this easy. It is quite surprising to have such a large establishment in an inland town but it seemed quite busy and the bar & restaurant were popular. I certainly recommend Loar and Ferreries. Staying in a central town worked well for us. Don't hesitate to stop at a cheese producer, signposted everywhere. Mahon cheese is excellent."

"Although the apartments may be somewhat dated inside, they have everything you need for a vacation. Some kitchenware could be missing, but if necessary, it's no problem to ask at reception, where they are extremely friendly and helpful. The building is very quiet. The pool isn't very large, but more than adequate since it's almost empty most of the day, with all the sun loungers and bathrooms free. The air conditioning works perfectly, achieving the desired indoor temperature, which isn't always easy. Cleaning and replacing towels every two days is appreciated. Conveniently located between Cala Blanca and Cala Sant Adrià, although any location is good in Menorca, as exploring is a pleasure. Shopping and dining areas are very close by. As I mentioned, the staff is very attentive."

TRH Tirant Playa ★★★★
"Positives: Food was fine for the early booking price, and the surrounding landscape is beautiful. Facilities were acceptable for what we paid. The location is peaceful and calm, close to Fornells port, which is nice if you’re looking for a quieter stay. Being on the north side of the island means south coast beaches are a bit of a drive — around 25–30 minutes each way. Negatives: While the location is near Tirant beach, the sand is darker and there is a lot of uncleared seaweed. We also noticed ants inside the facilities. From the start, communication from reception was inconsistent and frustrating. At check-in we were told there would be no cleaning or towel changes during our 7-night stay unless towels were “very dirty.” On Tuesday, when we requested fresh bath towels, we were informed there would be a €3 charge. We also paid €6 to rent a pool towel, but this deposit was never refunded at check-out — something that had not been mentioned beforehand. Obtaining the pool towel became a repeated hassle: every time we asked, the front desk said it would be ready in a certain amount of time, but when we returned, it still wasn’t available and we were given yet another time to come back. This happened at least five times, and the towel was only given to us after several days. Strangely, on Wednesday our flat was cleaned and towels replaced without warning — despite being told earlier that this service was not included. The all-inclusive package was limited to just three meals per day with no snacks, and desserts were always the same with no variety. The bar and restaurant appeared understaffed, there was no entertainment, parking was limited, and overall the front desk staff were not particularly helpful or clear with information."

Hostal la Isla ★★★
"Hostal La Isla was exactly what we wanted for our 2 day visit to Mahon. The room was an adequate size and had a surprising amount of storage space and the bathroom was large with a good shower. Add in aircon and a lift and we had all we needed. Breakfast was simple but fine and I found this place great value for money. "

Globales Cala'n Blanes ★★★
"Good location with a small beach with beautiful clear water right on the hotel doorstop. There is a lifeguard which is good but there are no sunbeds and not a lot of shade, so we went and bought a brolly. There are also a couple of bars done there but we didn't go i to them so can't comment as to what they were like. The hotel is kept very clean and tidy. The only thing I'd say is that I never saw anyone cleaning the pool, but having said that it seemed pretty clean. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pool, and there is a grassed area where you can sit that has a bit more shade. The staff are fantastic, they are really helpful and friendly and are a huge credit to the hotel. There's an entertainment team who lay on things like boules, darts and then bingo in the evening. When we were there a couple of singers were there in the evenings, plus a magician. The food is really nice, we stayed a week and there were quite a few different choices most evenings. The breakfast is pretty standard for a buffet in a hotel, but I've stayed in 4 star places where the food was nowhere near as good. My only negative is the air-conditioning. It was quite hot for June, high 20s to low 30s every day and it was hot at night and the A/c in the room just felt like a fan and it made it uncomfortable at night, it didn't seem to be doing any 'conditioning'. Most people seemed to be saying the same. It was hot in the restaurant so we tried to get a table out on the small terrace where there was a cool breeze. Overall our stay was really nice and we had a very relaxing week. I probably wouldn't stay again though until the a/c is sorted out."

"Walkable location from El Castell, and Moah also Port de Mao, but hard to get to beaches unless via taxi or buses that are not direct nor frequent. Great staff, friendly helpful spoke some English and gave many recommendations. Lovely roof top pool with view open all night. Comfortable room, and early check in when they can make it happen. Great hotel choice reasonable pricing. Minimal small cafe but great ⁰for coffee or a night cap when it is open."
