My husband and have stayed at The Stamford Plaza times many times over the years and have always loved it, but this was the first time bringing the kids, as we wanted to treat them to a special night out in the school holidays. PROS - The pool and spa were the highlight of our trip. After reading some previous reviews about the water being too cold we were a little concerned, but they were both absolutely wonderful. The pool area was clean and the pool was lovely and warm. The spa was perfect and HOT - just the way we love it. My children LOVED the glass elevator, this was a real thrill for them and they are already asking when we can go back to go in it again. We did meet some lovely staff during our stay, and check in and check out was fast and easy. The room was nice and clean. There is absolutely no view of the city lights (we were looking out onto a wall) but this is just due to the location and can't be helped. The central location is fantastic. CONS - No valet - I'm sure this was a service that used to be offered in the past? Our bags took nearly 2 hours to be delivered to our room, and this was time wasted that we were planning on heading out to explore the city. They only arrived after several follow up calls asking how much longer they would be. We only had 2 towels (and no robes) in our bathroom, even though our booking was for a family of 4. When our bags arrived, we asked the gentleman to please provide 2 more towels for the kids but they never came. We ended up needing to take 2 extra towels from the pool area back to our room. Our 'Indulgence Package' included a bottle of wine which we were told would be brought up to the room. This also never came and I needed to ask for it upon checking out. The real let down though was the buffer breakfast, which was included in our package. We have stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels and this was possibly the worst breakfast we have come across - I wouldn't even rate it a 2. The coffee machine was broken, and there was no service asking if we would like a fresh tea or coffee. My son had the pancakes (pre-made sitting out with the bread) and he said they tasted stale and crumbled in his mouth. The hot food (eggs, bacon, tomato, hash brown) were all stone COLD - not even luke warm. I considered asking if they could pop my plate into the microwave to heat them up but lost my appetite wondering how long it had been just sitting out there. And the fresh fruit was dry and looked like it had been sitting out a long time. I wish we hadn't taken take package with breakfast included, as we could have had a hot breakfast for much less $$ from the McDonalds just around the corner. Our package also included late check out to 12 noon however our keys did not allow us entry back in after 11am. OVERALL - We would stay at the Stamford again however I think they need to advertise it for what it truly is - a 4 star hotel. Good service, great location within CBD, close to Southern Cross and Flinders stations, within free tram zone too. The bed was comfie enough, room small, dated and needed a lick of paint and fridge really noisy. Even at 5 storeys up you can hear traffic, especially sirens. BUT, I wouldn't let that put you off, IF you simply need an affordable base to go explore etc.

Great hotel close to city center near Coles and Southern Cross station, very convenient. There is a swimming pool, sauna room, steam room, arcade, and gym for all guests to use for free. Rooms are clean and spacious, but the heating can be improved. Amenities are provided in the bathroom.

Took my grandsons for an overnight getaway. They loved the pool, streaming channels and watching the trams below. Generous size room and all the amenities we needed. Short distance from Southern Cross. Friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely return.

As a former hotel worker and frequent traveler I was very impressed with The StandardX Hotel and Staff. Friendly, approachable staff who were always smiling and helpful. Certainly has a much more youthful vibe compared to your normal Hilton, Hyatt etc. I was apparently upgraded to Room 501 for a three night stay. A hand written note with some delicious pastries on arrival in room. The rooms are nicely styled, a bit different and a little tight. A room to sleep in, certainly not one to spend the day working from as there is no couch, or table to work from. The bed was amazingly comfortable. I'd go so far as to say the most comfy hotel bed i've slept in. If you like fresh air, you could also open the window for some brisk Melb air. Very clean and quiet rooms. The glass walled (frosted) bathroom might concern some, although I had no issue as it was just me. The rooftop terrace is fantastic although there is no bar or cafe, you'll need to bring your food, drink or laptop up here to work with an amazing view. Hotel is located close to trams and the nightlife of Fitzroy around the corner. Unfortunately I did not try the restaurant so can't comment on the food there but the menu looked delicious. Looking forward to returning.

A new and charming hotel, in the district of Docklands in Melbourne. Excellent location, very calm and quiet, next to a Tram Station, free ride to several places in the city, including downtown, walking to the Docklands and the Marina. The room was comfortable and specially clean, great king bed, nice shower with good amenities. Amazing infinity pool with a great view, sauna and a equiped fitness center. The breakfast has great quality, excellent food and beverages. The highlight are the staff, very attentive and friendly, the general manager Mr. Christian, is always available and present. One of the best lounge in Marriott Hotels. The M Club has a super nice atmosphere, excellent options for food and drinks, excellent wines and a chef in the morning preparing a very good breakfast. Congratulations to Fazeel and his team, they are ALL spectacular. I recommend André I'll be back. Thanks to all the wonderful human being from this elegant Marriott Hotel.

It was a good experience, we stayed 2 nights in this hotel. The hotel is pretty new, located in Dockland ( last stop of the free tram zone), only take 20 minutes to city by free tram, great saving of transportation. We got 2 Queen bed room for 3 peoples, free water, free coffee. Also had swimming pool and gym located in level 6 Highly recommend place for people who want to travel around Melbourne cbd

Overall, it was good. On the last night, there was a power outage in the room, and the front desk temporarily helped adjust the room. The location is near the University of Melbourne, very close. The medical department of the university is next door and is under construction, but it is very quiet at night. The park downstairs is huge and great. It’s still a bit cold in Melbourne at night, so you still need to bring long sleeves and long pants when you come over winter vacation.

Selina was one of the first hostels I've ever stayed, though the staff were friendly and welcoming which making me feel comfortable right away. I stayed there for 3 nights in a 4 bed dorm and could have stayed longer since the beds are really comfy and the curtain gives added privacy. So great staff and rooms i would definitely stay again.

Very nice location, I felt like it was very good pricing. They do make up the room every other day, so just need to be prepared for that. Pretty good amenities. The lack of an established pick up/drop off point will be a little awkward. But otherwise I like the place.
