The hotel is a modern building, purpose built, near to the main shopping street. It is therefore ideally located to visit the sights of Mariehamn; near to the cruise port, the beach and the bus station for onward journeys around the islands of Åland. There is a large atrium that houses the reception, restaurant, bar and a seating area - all pleasantly done. Our room had two narrow singles but as a double room had two high backed relaxing armchairs. The bathroom or wet room was clean and contemporary but was too small to be a wet room consequently the shower left the entire room wet. Bikes could be rented for free at reception with the sister hotel, The Savoy, also available for bike hire. What was unfortunate and unforgivable was the demeanor of some of the staff. Having been to 143 countries I can hardly remember such rude conduct. One member of staff was so belligerent towards us that for the rest of our stay we did not purchase anything further from the hotel; in fact, if we had not already paid in full for the accommodation we would have left. Left a bitter taste to what otherwise would have been a wonderful experience.
