Hotel is closed and no longer in business as of fall August 2024. Please update this in your app Trip Advisor. There is nothing more to say but it is required to put at least 200 characters. Hmmm. Thank you for many great stays over the years at this hotel, both as the Dorint and then Novotel management. Your welcoming staff is much missed.

I had an extremely negative experience at Novotel Mainz that left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. From the moment of check-in, none of the reception staff bothered to inform us of any changes in service hours or other important variations. This total lack of communication with the guests is unacceptable. One evening, I went down to the hotel bar around 9:15 PM for an aperitif while waiting to dine at the hotel restaurant or at least at the bar. However, when I asked to see the menu to order a simple frozen pizza, the bartender rudely told me that the restaurant was already closed and suggested I find a kebab place down the street. This rude behavior was just the beginning. I pointed out to the bartender that, according to the official Novotel Mainz website, the restaurant closes at 9:30 PM, so I was still in time to place an order. In response, I was accused of lying and told not to disturb further. I then showed them the website to prove I was right, but I was treated with even more rudeness. The restaurant manager then got involved and showed me a bulletin board near the elevator with a notice in German and English indicating a new closing time of 9:00 PM. No one had bothered to inform me or my colleagues of this change, and I wonder how an international guest, who does not speak German or English, would have known about it. This total disorganization is unacceptable for a hotel that prides itself on high standards. Finally, I spoke with a supervisor and suggested heating a frozen pizza in the microwave to resolve the issue without further problems. Even after trying to be accommodating and personally returning the dishes to the kitchen, the situation worsened when I asked for two separate bills: one for the dinner and one for the beers during the aperitif. The bartender initially refused, claiming it was impossible, and only after my insistence did I get the two separate receipts. This made me feel completely taken for a fool, as something supposedly impossible was suddenly achievable after my complaints. Despite my willingness to find an amicable solution, this hotel demonstrated complete disorganization, incompetence, and unacceptable rudeness. The experience was a huge disappointment, especially considering the standards Novotel claims on their website. In all honesty, I will never recommend this hotel to anyone due to its extremely low level of service, lack of professionalism, and especially the immense rudeness and lack of respect towards paying guests.

Good hotel near the center. The hotel is older, the rooms are decorated in the 80s style but clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The fact that you have to pay 6 euros per day for internet access with a credit card is unusual and I haven't experienced anything like that anywhere in recent years. I would still recommend this hotel.

Room had a great shower and all the vital items for a decent stay. The gym was not a gym. It’s way too small and has barely any equipment. Would suggest investing in more space and items! The restaurant had a very limited menu so I ordered Uber eats both nights I was there.

I have already stayed here twice for work and would love to come back. The wellness area is just great for ending the evening. It is also interesting to look at the old foundations of a fortress in which the wellness area was enclosed. A really creative idea by the architect. Breakfast and rooms are also very comfortable. The only thing that is a bit cumbersome is the journey from the train station. I walked to the hotel once, but it was more strenuous up the hill with luggage than I thought. A taxi costs around 12 euros, unfortunately there are no buses.

We came to the hotel as part of our wedding anniversary trip and the staff went the extra mile to make us feel special! Great location, a quiet hotel just a short walk from the city centre. I really liked the big spa in the vaults - huge sauna, nice little plunge pool, steam room.. and I had it all to myself! What a bliss. The staff was very friendly and nice, especially the girls at the reception. I read some reviews where people did not appreciate the not so fresh decor in the rooms - well, the room was clean, served its purpose :) We did not come to the hotel to admire the furnishings but the city :) We did not try the restaurant as we loved taking walks through the city centre in the evenins. We also like authentic local cuisine (Eisgrub-Brau was a great find). We always have a good stay at Novotel hotels and I am looking forward to our next visit.
