We stayed for five days at Hampton Inn & Suites Madison-West during the December holidays to be near family. The staff were friendly and helpful, always having coffee, tea and hot chocolate available adjacent to the front desk. The pool was very family friendly which we enjoyed with younger family members. Our room on the fifth floor was spacious and we enjoyed their good complimentary breakfast every day we were there. Several high school sports teams were staying there but it was quiet throughout the halls.. Highly recommend.

Hotel purports to be pet friendly, which is why I chose them for my stay for me and my dog who is visiting the University of Wisconsin to start radiation treatments for her very painful bone cancer. The reservation date was supposed to be November 15 but somehow it was made for the 14th in error. I'm sure it was my fault somehow even though I double checked the dates before pressing enter. I have been going through a lot, which I what tried to explain to the hotel. I asked them if they could switch my reservation to the 15th but they refused. My dogs radiation treatments are costing me almost $4000 out-of-pocket for just these 2 days alone, so in order to be able to afford the hotel stay that I needed to use all my reward points from Hilton to book the reservation. The manager, Aaron, was rude and very matter of fact. He didn't care about my dilemma and refused to help me. He charged me charged me $108 (which included using my 10,000 Hilton rewards points) Money I couldn't afford but I had to afford to take care of my fur-baby girl. He told me he had no ability to refund my money, and then I would have to call Hilton honors directly for them to help me, which was a lie. I called Hilton rewards, asking them for assistance and they told me the only person that could give a refund and to assist with my reservation for the 15th would be the manager at the hotel itself. They refused to advocate on my behalf as one of their loyalty rewards members So now after driving three hours early this morning… instead of me, being able to stay in in Wisconsin for my two day treatment, I will now have to drive three hours back home tonight and then turn around and get my dog with cancer back on the road again at 4 AM to drive another three hours there and three hours back tomorrow to get her second day of radiation treatment. Hilton is a big company and they could've helped me. They have no compassion. All they care is about money, no matter how they get it. $108 does not mean a lot to them but right now it's the world to me. And they refused to help me. If you're ever in Madison, Wisconsin please give your business to a hotel chain that actually cares about their customers. Loyalty doesn't mean anything to them. When push comes to shove, you are nothing more than a dollar sign to them. And the manager definitely treats you like one..

This hotel swooped in to save our evening when another nearby hotel ”lost” our reservation. We were thankful to be welcomed with a free upgrade and in time to grab a beer from the snack area. The room was basic, but very clean and extremely quiet. We had to skip the made-to-order breakfast, but were pleasantly surprised by the choices. We will definitely make this location one of our first choices when we are traveling to Madison again.

The service was great and the room was very clean and nice. Refrigerator, microwave, tv, and hair dryer all in great working condition and clean. The morning breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of hot and cold foods. I am really glad I found this place. I didn't use the pool but saw several families using it and it looked great too.

If you love cockroaches, this is the place for you! But I'll start at check-in: when we arrived there was a sign on the desk saying the attendant was performing another task away from the desk and would be back within 15 minutes (I waited about 10 minutes.) Our key cards quit working each of the 3 days we were there and every time we went to reprogram them, the sign was up and we waited. The hallways were a festival of weird smells. At night the hallways reeked of marijuana, which I do not have a problem with, but it's not something I really want when I'm traveling with my children. Also not really something I want to smell as I'm falling asleep. There was a large puddle of dog pee in the middle of the landing between the first and second floor steps that was there for a couple of days. The steps were pretty dirty anyway. We stayed in room 212. One of the couches was broken, the dresser drawers were broken, the outlet in the bathroom didn't work. The person upstairs was super loud beginning around midnight each night. I was impressed with how clean the room was, I was less impressed with the cockroaches that welcomed me to the bathroom in the middle of the night. There is a crack between the floor and the wall in between the toilet and the bathtub, that appeared to be where the cockroaches were entering from. I killed several cockroaches but the rest escaped into that crack. I booked the room because of the extra space and the kitchen, which we definitely used, but it was much shabbier than it appeared in the photos on the website. I do not see myself ever staying in another Extended Stay America again and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone I know.

Bed was a bit too soft. There is only one elevator for a large set of rooms on second floor. Breakfast was good. Eggs tasted fine and not too runny. Air conditioner was good. Front desk staff was helpful. Shuttle to and from campus was convenient and well priced compared to the parking on campus for games. Shuttle pickup was very delayed; had to wait close to an hour.

We have stayed at this hotel in Madison three or four times over the past few years when visiting our son, a grad student at UW. The location is great near the Midvale mall and Target on the west side of campus where he lives. Rooms are large and well-appointed (we like the couch and desk addition from the Suites) and they are always extremely clean. The breakfast is also a big plus. This year, the first room we were assigned ending up having a loud industrial-style hum/noise coming from the A/C intake vent near the door. It sounded kind of like a compressor unit or something along those lines. It bothered my wife so much that she could literally not sleep the first night. We requested to move to a different room for the rest of our stay, and were helped by Alan L., the Guest Services Manager. He was amazing, just so helpful. He took us to a different room to see what it is like and it was a big improvement. He then offered to help us move our things and asked if there was anything else he could help with. He was just the model of what good customer service should be like.

I had a room rented for a couple of weeks for my stepfather’s 90th birthday bash. On the day I was to travel, my mother called and she was SO sick, and meanwhile, my stepfather was having problems with his back to where he could barely move! I phoned the hotel and Vick, the general manager, not only refunded me most of the price for my reservation, he informed me of the third party vendor with whom I made the reservation on line and could not recall, but he graciously answered there questions about his name, and his title, which the “title” they did not tell me about the first time I called. So, a total of 3 calls to Vick! I stay at this hotel every time I see my parents. It’s very close to our family home. I have reserved rooms before only as Amy Cardwell, but I got married and my last name changed to Laster. That did not matter to Vick. He just wanted to help me! Thank you, Vick!

GGuest UserWe had a great stay at the Madison Hampton Inn Downtown over Thanksgiving weekend. We appreciated the spacious lobby for gathering with friends, the free breakfast, and the adjoining Bassett Street Brunch club. The rooms are huge—plenty of room for the family and all our stuff. Conveniently located in the heart of the Madison campus. Our favorite hotel in downtown Madison.
GGuest UserI recently came back to stay 3 nights at my favorite Doubletree in Downtown Madison after being away for 4 years. I was greeted by 2 lovely ladies at the front desk and when I arrived in my upgraded suite, there was the most thoughtful, handwritten card from Sophie, explaining that my husband indicated I was in town for a class at UW so she wished me well and included a study snack gift bag. Then, as if that wasn't wonderful enough, the next morning I was greeted by Liz Christianson, when I went down for breakfast. I instantly remembered Liz from my last visit back in 2018 when I was in town for a very different reason. My beloved mom was recovering from brain surgery after a Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis in IL (we had switched her care from IL to UW). I was with my elderly father and Liz (& Meg, who worked there at the time) were so kind and so compassionate to us - I never forgot them. I was absolutely thrilled to see Liz and after I refreshed her memory, she completely remembered me and immediately asked about my father. It was literally like coming back home and visiting with a good friend. Doubletree Downtown Madison is like no other Doubletree in the US. It has the Midwestern values mixed with the awesome Madison vibe that is unlike anywhere else. Thank you for your kindness and thank you for being such a wonderful company that retains talented, special, fantastic people who make people like me excited to come back again and again.
GGuest UserWe stayed here while visiting my daughter at UW for her birthday. There were 4 of us (myself, husband, 16 yr old and 3 yr old) and I booked the double queen poolside room. Best decision ever! The rooms are somewhat small, especially when you add a pack and play for a toddler. But with the pool lobby area it felt like an extension of our room. The hotel wasn’t crowded at all and we enjoyed using the pool and hanging out in that area. There was even a nice bathroom that comes in handy with 4 people (ended up being 5 because my daughter who said she would want to sleep back at her dorm decided to stay as well.) The room was very clean and updated and amenities seem well kept. The location can’t be beat. We walked to dinner and breakfast. My only complaint (more of a suggestion) would be a coffee station in the lobby. The restaurant on-site sells coffee but we ended up going next door. Overall, I highly recommend and on an “off” weekend in February, it’s very reasonable.
GGuest UserWe had a wonderful stay with great service and attention to detail. The reservation staff went above an beyond to make sure our needs were met. We loved the lake view and beautiful hotel amenities. I wish we would have known more about the available spa services earlier, so we could have taken advantage of them.
MMiss Fanny NGOur family is from Hong Kong, because we attended our daughter's graduation ceremony, we chose to book this hotel for 9 days. After we stayed in a standard room for one night, we found that the room was very small and there was no desk. We asked the front desk to change it. The lady at the front desk was very considerate and changed us to a studio room, which was much larger. Thank you very much! The hotel has free parking, which is very convenient. The breakfast is the same every day without any change. I hope the hotel can change this! You can get the cleaning products from the service desk, and the service at the service desk is also very good! !
We prepaid for a room for two nights to visit our daughter at UW. I only chose this cinderblock hole because our prefered hotels were booked by people attending the home game. Our last visit, the tub and toilet were broken, but we booked late and were stuck. When I arrived, a smoker sat in front of the no-smoking sign by the lobby doors. The clerk rudely informed me that it was shift change.”I'm counting money. You can't be here, sir. Back off and sit in that corner.” Since my family had to use the bathroom and didn't want to wait, I took them to a nearby gas station. When I returned, the clerk refused me admittance, claiming I had been coughing and sneezing non-stop, and would contaminate the place. (I blew my nose once upon entry due to the heavy cigarette smoke by the door, and she sprayed disinfectant in the air on her side of the glass partition.) The insulting manager backed her despite the fact that I exhibited no symptoms during the entire discussion. I had to spend 1.5 hours on the phone to get my money back (in a couple weeks) WHEN THEY BREACHED THE CONTRACT. Motel 6 corporate refused to migrate my reservation to the other hotel of the same name in the city. By then, finding a decent hotel for under twice the price was impossible. Instead, I drove 4.5 hours back home in the rain. I had never been treated this shabbily in any hotel. Don't risk the abuse for a place this bad.
Stayed on a Saturday evening. Was initially impressed with the place. Cleanliness is valued. Check-in took a few minutes even though no one was in line. This establishment, unlike others, does not have check in paperwork printed out in advance. The front desk attendant stated their computer was acting up. Rooms had excellent hot water and a properly functioning A/C. I was super impressed with Dove products bathing condiments. Wow! My exhaust fan in the bathroom of Rm. 301 did not work. I had issues with the pool (see attached photo). The pool had a sudsy foam, which means your pH level are high and calcium levels are low. This can be caused by multiple problems. In your case, the pool needs to be ”shocked.” Secondly, and equally important, an employee needs to be knowledgeable on pools and certified. Also, encourage patrons to shower prior to entering the pool. The suds give the pool uninviting look. The lighting outside is excellent! Last, it's obvious your elevator is old. It worked fine. Not sure if its a regulation in the city of Madison, but hanging the earned certification paper copy with a date of expiration is truth. (annual one) proves your elevator is safe. Overall, I had a fair stay.
Great Value for Money: Considering the comfort, convenience, and quality of service we received, we felt that this motel offered exceptional value for money. Our stay exceeded our expectations in every way, making it a worthwhile investment in our travel experience.
GGuest UserWorst. Hotel. Ever. We were bumped from our reservation at another hotel owned by this chain. They gave us an ultra cheap rate to stay at the Microtel. We had purposely gotten a room with a king bed because I had had Rotator cuff surgery the week before and needed the room. We booked the room because we had to be at the airport at 5am and we live about 2 hrs away. At first I thought it would be fine , and I knew there was a big event in Madison that weekend. We should have gone home abs driven dish the next morning at 0- dark- thirty. Room - tiny 1 queen size bed. I guess I should have figured a much with micro in the name. Inefficient and ugly lighting I bet they never stay in a room or try to work at the desk! Air cooling- moved the air around , but set on high cool we should have been freezing- ran constantly at 80 db! Bed was uncomfortable and small Door keys stopped working right after we got in the room. This would be ok for younger people but not for us. Bit with the money we paid at $47.00.
This property has proven to be a reliable stop while driving across country. I have stayed here numerous times and it is comfortable. The location is great and there are many amenities close by including a Perkins across the street. The staff is accommodating and the price is right. Most importantly they take Cats for no additional fee. As a point of information, many places will take dogs but not Cats.
