The rooms were not secure and were not clean. Despite other reviews to the contrary, we were disappointed. Also: We arrived at 9PM - the office was closed and deserted. Despite informing the hotel that we would be late, we had to re-contact them to get access to our rooms.

I booked this motel as it was close to the Fortress of Louisbourg for a two night stay. It was a poor decision. The room looked like it was hastily painted by amateurs as there was paint splatter over the fixtures. There was visible black mould in the bathroom caulking. In the morning there were bugs in the bath tub. I'm glad I brought my own bedding and pillow. Breakfast the first day I entered after 8 am. The scrambled eggs (if you could call them that) were cold, the toaster wasn't working properly. The other choices for their free continental breakfast were two stale cereal choices, coffee, tea and orange juice, and instant oatmeal packets. None of the motel guests looked too happy- some went to the only local restaurant instead that served breakfast. The second day, there was a line up at 7:30 am (the advertised start time) for those wanting breakfast and to check out- but the entire building was locked with no staff in sight, nor were they answering the phone numbers listed on the front door.

To be fair we were not looking for a fancy place rather just somewhere to spend the night to avoid driving from Sydney to Fortress of Louisbourg in the morning. Well, mission accomplished. The historical site is only 3.6 km away from the Inn. Room was tidy, sheets / towels clean. Bed ok. Pillows ok ( would invest in better ones personally = a tad thin) Wi-Fi great. Staff prompt and efficient and almost everything worked. BUT. The place & rooms need major overhaul & move into 21st century. Reminded me of old motels of yore ( which alas this one still is) by the side of a random highway where you would pull up to spend the night on some random college roadtrip when you didn't quite care about quality of the stay but rather its cheapness & convinience. From incredibly dated furnishings, that yucky looking bed cover that has seen better days and oh so many people & hasn't been washed in ages, rusty hangers & broken chairs outside, cheap showerhead (haven't seen one of those in a decade at least), occasional mystery black spots on the walls, shower & base boards to poor paint job, joke of a breakfast ( cereal, wonder bread + weird eggish patties + coffee / orange drink which I didn't dare to try = that's it! = if this was continental breakfast I was wondering what continent& on what planet) & horrific paint color choices in the bar / restaurant / breakfast room. TV volume couldn't be adjusted or turned off/on with remote ( it only controlled channels). Had to do it old school = on TV itself :) Almost made me laugh, if it wasn't so sad. Hate leaving bad reviews so I'll leave it at a sad review. This place could be so much better if cared for, which it clearly hasn't been for whatever reasons for a while. Again, sadly. Motels now can be done so so much better & we have stayed in some. (Not fancy but tasteful) Especially given proximity to such wonderful historic landmark as Fortress of Louisbourg that is a superb experience.. Will NOT recommend as of Sep 2024. Hope guys can turn things around. Location definitely has potential. If you do decide to stay ( out of convenience most likely) for food = make sure to check out The Bothy at North Star. Absolutely superb place.

Great location with regards to proximity to the Louisbourg Fortress and pleasant staff. Room was not overly clean (e.g., some black mold in the shower, noticeably grimy baseboards). 24 hour front desk was a phone number. Lobby area was often locked.

The lady at the front desk was very nice but the rooms were awful. I wish I read through the reviews before booking. My husband and I were going to stay the night in Louisbourg at the Fortress inn but after entering the room which had two different awful smells in the bedroom and bathroom we decided to stay somewhere else. The bathroom had mold on the bottom of the door and the walls. The wall by the tub was obviously rotten, soft and visible water damage. I would stay away and book somewhere else. Hopefully they can fix up the place as there is limited places to stay in Louisbourg.

The receptionist was pleasant and that’s the best I can say. The room smelled, the paint was peeling on the walls and ceiling, in some places, including “reception”, 5” paint peels. The furniture was old and sticky, the bathroom door was hollow veneer and dirty at the bottom. The floor had a new laminate but they creaked and bent as you walked. I dared to wonder what was underneath. The sheets were clean, otherwise I would have slept in the car but the mattresses were old and thin.

Good if you want to be close to the Fortress of Louisbourg, but that's it. Staff were very friendly, but hard to find and didn't answer the phone. The rooms are mostly clean, but the beds are very hard and the pillows old, flat and hard. The bathroom had mildew or black mold in the tub, and there was an area on the floor near a bed that squished with water when we walked across it, with a bad smell as well. We tried to find someone to let them know, but nobody was to be found and nobody answered the phone. Dinner is available from the bar attached to the motel, and they offer what they called a "continental breakfast" but was really just coffee/tea, watery orange drink, plain packets of oatmeal, Rice Krispies or Corn Flakes, toast, and weird egg patties. The town itself is pretty, or must have been once. I'm guessing the Pandemic hit them hard, because everything is closed up and empty. There were two cafes, one open and one closed, a convenience store, and the railway museum. Otherwise it was a ghost town, there was nothing else to do in the area.
