I am very, very, very disappointed with my experience in Sicily. In my previous experience as a tourist abroad, I have never felt so offended. First of all, Sicily is beautiful. No doubt about that. Rich in culture and history, with lots of spectacular sceneries and magnificent cuisine. And that's it! From here on my opinion splits from most of the others. At the beginning of August 2024, as a gift to ourselves after our wedding at the end of July, me and my wife planned a trip to Sicily, Italy .  We did it through a local travel agency. The agency's choice of hotels was more than controversial, but this is another different storyline. What I was amazed by was the existing opinion about Sicilians. In particular that they are actually hospitable. But I'll come back to that later. I will start with our hotel - Orizzonte 4*....No, not a 4* !!! Not by any existing standard outside of Italy at least! No laundry service, no irons (and I do not mean that they don't have spare ones...they don't have irons at all...), no clothes drier or service. No working lobby bar. Nothing at all. To all my questions starting with "Do you have..." the answers were "No, we don't." Oh sorry, they had a drier...a wired one on the ceiling of the hotel, where we were advised to dry our clothes. Yeah, you read it right - on the top floor of the hotel. Btw the mini fridge was heating on the outside. No comment. Now, the breakfast. At breakfast - even though the hotel guests at that time consisted of only 2-3 couples including us, the restaurant staff never cared to refill the meals or at least to diversify the menu. So we had te same stuff all week long. Particularly "interesting " was a tomato salad cup that stayed there for 3 days (in the phenomenal heat, even on the inside of the hotel) and got mold on in the end. The other meals also started to smell "suspicious" and only because one of the hotel's guests felt bad one day(but not because of the food actually) they decided it was time to get rid of that hedgehog-like tomatoes. But this was only breakfast. It is something we could generally ignore. From our week-long stay in Letojanni, Sicily however, we have faced only the indifference of the locals to tourists. specifically to non-Italian speakers to be precise. First of all, you can not claim to be a tourist destination and not know a single word of English! No! Nein! Не! And here's where the "fun" starts. We as tourists faced a language barrier, though in Europe (although it didn't feel like Europe)...and all because Italians, Sicilians, or should I say Letojannians (since every province or municipality is a country of its own...) are too proud to learn the international language - English. Whenever and whoever we tried to talk to in English we got a haughty, even angry attitude because we do not speak Italian. To all our polite questions starting with "Do you speak English?" the answer was "not much..." or there was no answer at all, just a tornado of

We decided to take this holiday together with some cousins. We entrusted ourselves to an agency for the choice of structures. What can I say, mid-August week, €1300 extra excluded (around €200). The structure is not only dated but I would add dangerous and dirty. The apartments are saved but the rest is not. Swimming pool with detached internal mosaic, stairs leading to the theater also frequented by unsafe children, with nails on the outside and rotten wood, stage with dangling electric wires, mice walking here and there. For the "restaurant" you need to spend a little more time in the description. I'll start by saying that the staff is quite kind, in fact they don't care, in fact at times they were quite desolate and embarrassed by the situation and I understand them very well. Let's start with breakfast, forget what you see in the photos and reviews because it doesn't exist. So breakfast was this: frozen croissants cooked on the spot, biscuits and rusks packaged complete with jams and hazelnut cream in single-dose trays, coffee and cappuccino (which were included in the price) from the machine, which dispensed an exaggerated quantity of water before and after the chosen drink. “Decent” cappuccino and coffee made like at the bar had to be paid for separately. Lunch/dinner: you could choose between 2 first courses and 2 second courses plus a side dish. When I gave birth, I ate much better in the hospital. Garlic and oil used excessively, pre-cooked pasta and rice, poor raw materials. We had half board, but we ate there maybe 2/3 times in the residence restaurant. Let's now move on to the restaurant: cobwebs everywhere, paint tape still on the wall, dirty chair covers, glasses with traces of lipstick, unclean crockery in general, grease smears on the plates. The animation staff, perhaps minors, went from entertainment in the morning to the sea, in the afternoon to the swimming pool and in the evening to the theater with baby dance etc. If I'm not mistaken, the girl, Margherita, also fainted one day at the seaside. The apartments are acceptable, with a hob which is convenient for me as I have a small child, and air conditioning. The view from our room was wonderful. I'll post some photos to give you more or less an idea. If I could go back, I would choose Sicily countless times, but not this resident. I do not recommend

This hotel is a mess. Tiles missing, bugs and worms in rooms. Mattresses are old and felt like we were sleeping on the floor. Flies all over the breakfast buffet. The view from our balcony was breath taking and Mt Etna was right there. Will never stay there again. And do not recommend.

Establishment left adrift. Elevators giving access to apartments not functioning. Flight of steps over 4 floors. Steps in poor condition. Ridiculous and almost non-existent breakfast. Wifi working haphazardly. Dirty and unmaintained terraces. Evening meals expensive and not good. Everything is left abandoned. Positive points: Spacious apartments, large terrace with stunning views of the bay. Swimming pool at the hotel. Free shuttle to Letojanni beach every hour..BUT.. last hour to pick you up 5 p.m. Ridiculous if you want to enjoy the shops or have an evening dinner at the seaside. Kind, friendly and attentive staff.

Residenza Letojanni Google review summary 3.8 337 reviews 5 ★ 4 ★ 3 ★ 2 ★ 1 ★ Reviews on other travel sites Reviews Search reviews Zea Preston-Voile 1/5 a day ago on Google I honestly feel like I have to write this review before anyone makes the mistake of being misled by the pictures online. Reality verses online is so different. It is not easily accessible unless you are super fit (we go running and paddleboarding, but the constant hill would be too much for most people). On arrival at Residence Letojanni, there was literally no-one there. We had a walk around calling out to see if we could find anyone. It literally looked like it had been deserted and had been severely vandalised. We felt unsafe. The pictures show the disrepair the hotel was in. There were broken and lifted tiles around the pool, exposed electrical wires, peeling paint, balconies that clearly had some movement and were crumbling. Granted it was a bank holiday, but not to have anyone there, nor to let us know that is unbelievable. There was no restaurant as advertised, so luckily we had hired a car, so went to find a shop to stock up on food. Whilst we gave Loveholidays and the hotel a chance to put things right on several occasions, this was not met. We were offered alternative accommodation in the sister hotel, Hotel Peppe, but this had no self catering facilities or car parking for the hire car. This would have been impossible to accept as we had already spent approximately £80 on food which largely needed to be kept refrigerated. Instead, we were offered breakfast for the duration of our stay, which consisted of cereal and pre-packaged chocolate biscuits, which was nothing like a breakfast you'd expect in a hotel. You'd expect at least toast or perhaps pastries on the continent, so we declined. The next day, we noticed a van and some promotion called ‘Big’ on it. A group of young people started to put out flags on the top area. We asked what they were doing as there were no hotel staff around and one explained that it was a stage. It turned out it was for some kind of teenage Easter camp and they were there until Sunday. They did some kind of 'staging' and put some chairs round the pool and swept up. It was nowhere near a safe place for guests. We were put in the apartment closest to all the noise and asked to be moved, but there was apparently nowhere for us to be moved to. The staff of the company kept us awake at all hours, partying after the teenagers had gone and they would literally go to bed at 3am. We reported this, but nothing was done. Photos show they had 15 chairs on their balcony (each apartment had 4). Sleeping in the day was not an option as the noise levels from the music were so loud, we couldn’t even enjoy sitting on the balcony with the partial sea view, which was overshadowed, so it was cold by 2pm. Had we been warned of an event company taking over the hotel prior to going on holiday, we would have requested to change venues. After 4 days, we cou

Place is badly maintained and room needs uplift. In addition, there is no one in office and you have to call to get hold of someone and wait for them to come to give you the key. The location is nice with ocean view and close to Taormina but you will need a car to get there.
